Sketchup crashes when starting
-
Did you reboot the computer, then attempt to start SU? If that fails (to remove the root of your problem), do you have any plugins installed? If so, move (not copy) them to a new "temp" folder with "my computer" then try restarting SU.
-
Could be graphic card - which one do you have? and what drivers have you installed?
-
There also was a plugin that was causing instant crashing....I forget which one though.
Any chance you recently installed some plugins?

There's a Repair option in the 'Control Panel' > 'Programs & Features' - run it for Sketchup...
Run Sketchup - if it crashes now it's probably your graphics card - try updating its drivers or changing its settings to suit Sketchup...
It Sketchup runs OK it might be a Plugin crashing you.
Copy your Plugins folder with all of its contents, and delete all files in the original folder - you can leave any folders in there since their contents are inoperable without a 'loader' rb file being found in the base folder.
Open the Plugins_Copy and delete all of the folders - as they are already in the original Plugins folder - keep all of the files.
List the Plugins folder's files in date_modified order, select the the newest half and copy/paste to move it into the original Plugins folder.
Restart - if its OK the the culprit is in the second half - if it fails it's in the half you moved over - chances are it's in the more recent files...
If it's OK keep moving over half of the files remaining in the Plugins_Copy until you get a crash.
When you get a crash undo the move and repeat the move with only half of the files you just tried - repeat this 'narrowing down' till you find the culprit .rb file - disable it - e.g. add .txt onto the end of the file name.
You may well not have to do too many steps as seeing a file in a list of possible culprits might jog your memory and you go I installed that yesterday! -
Hello, It crashes imediatelly after starting. I will try to upgrade the graphic card drivers. It isn´t my computer, so I do not know, which graphic card there is (I can´t remember it). I will tell you the result.

He can't even open Sketchup so changing settings is a bit premature
You have reinstalled / repaired etc ?
No joy...
Have you disabled all Plugins etc ?? -
It´s a new instalation - no plugins, no changes made inside sketchup. If I understand it well, the software you link on is able to change some settings without starting Sketchup? I will try it.

To update a display adapter driver on a WinXP, right click on a blank part of the desktop, select properties and eventually come to the display adapter and driver version. Maybe Vista is similar. If you are connected to the web, you can update the driver from there. SU 6 is a very stable and runs on more pcs then SU 7.

I tried everything and nothing happens. Only one thing: When I reboot computer in safety mode, Sketchup works, but without shortcuts. Could it be a conflict with another running aplication, when using normal mode? What should I do now? Is system reinstalling the right solution?

How about removing SU, then "restoring" the system to a earlier point before reinstalling SU?

Win safe mode = Win default video driver = typically an OpenGL issue w/ used video driver of Win standard mode
which video card and driver version do you use: "Win+R > dxdiag > OK > Display > Device/Driver" ?
did you have tried to disable the SU hardware acceleration w/ the support tool mentioned above?

Sketchup 8 crashed when I copied/paste contents of plugin folder between 7 and 8.
Methodically went through and copied/restarted only a handful of rb scripts until I found the cause.
In my case, and hopefully no disrespect to ruby writer...the culprit was "modelur.rb"
Not sure how to send a message to this plugin author...than again maybe its just me! -
Does anyone know why Sketch Up just randomly crashes? Version 6 was always stable, and now I have 8,and it stinks! I don't know what Trimble did to it, but they really messed it up. Sketch Up 8 crashes on both my Mac and PC, both running different processors, graphic cards on operating systems, so I know it is not my hardware. The version on my Mac is pro, and the PC version is basic (free). Even the plugins are different between both machines, so I know it is not a code conflict or unstable plugins. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I have removed plugins that may have been problematic, and I have made my models as uncomplicated as possible. I used to be able to create massive, complex models and now I am lucky if I can get 15 minutes of continuous use. It crashes when I move geometry, save a file, open a file, run a plugin or even just draw a line. Furthermore, the "bugsplat" thing is useless, as its suggestions are always either update Sketch Up, add a line a code for layer 0 in Ruby, or "sorry, no information available" - useless. I need real solutions - so if anyone has any, I would love to hear them!

Well, how often does it randomly crash? Are you running any plugins? What if you uninstall the plugins and try running it? Most people don't have constant crash problems, so it isn't a rampant problem. I would tend to think of plugins possibly being the problem.
Do you ever get bugsplat reports?
-
SketchUp doesn't start anymore on my PC (Windows 7) either. As soon as I doubleclick it, the BugSplat-Window appears. I tried to install the newest version, reinstalled it completely, updated my graphics driver, looked into the registry, but nothing's helping. That's really odd, because last week it worked just fine. My PC has some issues right now, slow startup and some other problems, might that be the cause? I have no idea...

In case you have recently added a tool that is causing issues...
Try renaming your Plugins folder PluginsX temporarily... and make a new empty folder called Plugins...
If SketchUp starts up OK now you need to add back the plugins in steps until you recreate the crash...
Then you have a probable culprit... seek more advice when you have that tracked down... -
Greetings Sir, i would like to consult this problem that occurred this morning, about the BUG SPLAT, actually this not the first time i encountered it but this morning was the Worst Nightmare for me, when i double click the Sketch-up icon in my desktop (Windows 7, 32-bit User), the message said: " Sketch-up 8 has produced a Bug Splat", i double / thrice re installed it but still same scenario, Can't Open the Sketch-up!, Second Step i made was, trying to troubleshoot the problem through Control Panel and try to REPAIR it but it says that the " GOOGLESKETCHUP.msi" is missing, what will i do i'm not familiar with this stuff? Thank you and looking forward for a solution/s!

Sounds like you have an old 'Google' v8 anyway... The newer 'Trimble' v8 is [was] current for almost a year,
If you have kept the original file you downloaded to install 'SketchUp 8 Free' you can reuse that and you should get asked about a repair if there's an existing installation.
[The msi file referred to is the file the installer extracts then uses, but if your Users/../Local/Temp folder has been 'cleaned up' over the preceding months then it's probably no longer around...]
Otherwise you'll need to find replacement version 8 Free installer from SketchUp.com...
Or upgrade to version 2013 Make [aka Free].
Several versions can coexist on one PC... -
HI, new here. I'm also having this immediate crash/bug splat on starting up a fresh install of Sketchup make. Sketchup 8 was running fine un til I installed this along side it now neither work. uninstalled both, reinstalled 2013 works once then I get the crash on start up. Graphics drivers are up to date. Running on Windows 8. really disappointing.

Is that with or without plugins installed?
