Here is a possible approach using the plugin skin http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=356919293504215ab9c83967811b1f7 I only selected the rails at the separation shown to reduce time because once the stitches are made the segments created will take some time to select for that tool. Reducing the number of rails and using this plugin may give you acceptable results.
Some other observation: There were 24 stray lines ( used stray line plugin) mostly where ribs are not connected to the rails and 50 broken lines. I repaired the broken lines but the sandbox tool was still giving the peaks. Don't know if the former is causing your problem; your primitives ( lines) are showing on the surrond layer. They should be on layer 0. All drawing should be there and layers only used for visibility control of groups/ components. Number of segments( 120) on the rail seems excessive to me for large radius of curvature ?
Getting late will play with your model tomorrow AM

Here's a quick version using my EEbyRails.
You need to simplify the 'skeleton' into profiles across the boat [bulkheads?] and rails down the 'keel' and the 'bows'.
Make each of these a curve using weld.
Try to keep the same number of segments in the profiles/rails - you haven't got that currently and a 'lumpy' mesh results where the various grouped meshed meet and need exploding together at the end...
Do a pair of profiles and rails in turn until you have completed the 'hull'.
Make it a component and mirror the halves together... β˜€boat.pngboat.skp

              Thanks TIG

I'm really sorry to be a pain again
This is my first attempt at an 'organic' shape and im finding it quite tricky

how would I give the hull a thickness of say 60mm to the outside edges is this possible?
              If so how

              Cheers Mark

Why did i agree to do this for my father inlaw 😲 πŸ˜•
thought id get some brownie points stacked up for future use but obviously its proving harder than expected

Just so people know this is what im trying to create in sketchup

Im finding it quite hard to get the hull started. Tigs help is great many thanks and has got me started a bit but im still finding it hard to get my head round

Thanks for all the help anymore would be greatfully accepted

Ive tried this and it keeps crashing the model and shutting sketchup
i think the model is too complex and has a spas attack and closes it.
Cheers anyway is a useful plugin

Roadie, first of all u should be sure to find and download some blueprints(without them is very hard),then search for lot of reference images, then(but not last) u should have some average skills in sketchup..and only after these steps start building it. imho

                        All the best!

Ive got the plans he built the boat to which are printouts which ive caded up the drawings in autocad. The guy who designed the boat drew it all by hand old school style and doesnt have downloadable plans. Plus you have to pay for the plans which is about Β£500

I have loads of images ive taken of the boat and have been given by my father inlaw

I have average skills in solidworks as i use it at work for architecture concepts but its mostly straight lines and curves not organic shapes. Ive used sketchup lots but cant get my head around the the hull shape and making it work. Ive drawn the majority of the other bits to attach to the hull but the hull is the most important bit.

Give the guy a break - he doesn't know where to start. Posting a model of a completed hull (even if it lacks accuracy) doesn't help much because it doesn't show how to set it up.

                                    Hi

I used the shown cutting plane to get intersection points with the rails . You should then be able to create good bulk head profiles for TIG's suggestion pending issue with the rails
