[Plugin] Skin.rb
-
i tried to use this plugin to skin my rc sailplane fuselage formers. i could not manage it to work anyway.
then i draw simple squares on same axis to try. i tried to skin between two shapes, but nothing works. something i did should be wrong i guess.

It would appear that the author of the Skin plugin has moved on to other things or for whatever reason has no interest in making his plugin work correctly. Chris Fullmer has done an excellent plugin called Loft that does work and, I think, does a nicer job anyway. Why not just use it instead?

my non works .

I wonder what it is about this plugin that gives so many people such a hard time. It works just fine for me.
-
My copy of skin.rb seems to work fine.
In my case, I have both skin.zip and skin23.zip in my plugins folder. There is a skin folder residing in the plugins folder that contains menu button png's.
Again, in my case, I installed skin first, then I installed skin23. I guess this process has something to do with it.
No guarantees. -

Dave, I think it is because there are a number of versions right throughout the thread..... I too had trouble. So much so, i removed it all together.....

I thought the ground rule was to put the latest version on the first page of the thread.

me too.....

At the time that this ruby was published, the ground rule was not yet being discussed. Not too long after(relative phrase)I joined the forum, I observed the dialogue turning to making the postings of plugins more standard to reduce confusion. This thread predated that consensus.
What I wish somebody would do is either contact the author and have him get the kinks out, or get his permission to allow someone else to fix it, or scrap it and start over.
There is considerable value in the concept of a relatively simple tool such as this, when you don't need some of those others with more functionality.Right now, I couldn't Ruby my way out of a brown paper bag, let alone fix Skin.

If you are not too much in a hurry, I am preparing a script that will do mass skinning (as well as some loft generation). It's far from being ready, probably a month or so away.
Attached is a SKP showing the typical situations where it may be useful. For skinning, you typically select the whole wireframe and let it go (there is a more accurate interactive mode however).I still have a lot to do on the algorithms and on the UI. So, no very firm promise on a timeframe actually!
