Yes it is! but there are still many things to improve.
For example, if the model change a bit in Sketchup, the dimensions do not follow consequently.
And what about retriving area dimensions? Or just simply dimensioning arcs?

And some more controls for extension lines are as well very welcomed

I think I will go on dimensioning in Sketchup!

Hi, Gjenio - you're correct: if the model changes a bunch, then we will not stick to geometry as you would hope. We're looking into this, but it wasn't doable in 7.1. The workaround really is to wait with dimensions until your model is not undergoing big changes.

... except somebody decided to make them utterly different visually to the dimensioning in SU! Why on earth would anyone choose to do that?

Tim, not sure I see your point. You want crappy SketchUp dimensions in LayOut? Try printing them.

p.s. - you can make whatever style you want. So which one of the dimensions here is from SketchUp, which one from LayOut, and why (see attached)?

Well I don't think SU dimensions are crappy (except in that arrow heads should sometimes be outside the dimension lines rather than inside) and I haven't seen anything that makes me think I can change the style of them. What have I missed?

Like I said - if you're happy with SketchUp dimensions, use them. Nothing has changed for you and you should be happy. AFAIK, you can change font and size and that's it (it also stays the same size depending on zoom level, which doesn't work well for printing). If you want to change dimension style, have better prints or presentations, use LayOut. My point was to simply say, you can match the dimension style of SketchUp in LayOut if you want, or change it to your needs.

                              Hi Tim,

To add a bit to Barry's comments, if you're having trouble getting dimensions to look like you want them to, there are a couple of ways to change your dimension style in LayOut:

#1 Change the style of an existing dimension

                              1. Create a dimension.
                              2. Select the dimension.
                              3. In the Shape Style panel, choose the stroke line weight, color, arrowhead type, etc that you want to use.
                              4. In the Text Style (Win) or Font panel (Mac), choose your text settings.
                              5. In the Dimension Style panel, choose your units, precision, and location/orientation of the text box.
                              6. If the dimension still doesn't look like you want, you can double-click on the dimension with the Select tool. You can then select the individual lines, and change their style via the Shape Style panel.

                              Or

#2 Set the Dimension tool default

                              1. Select the dimension tool.
                              2. Follow steps 3-5 above.
                              3. Create dimension...it will use the settings you choose.

                              Hope that helps,
                              -sandra

Simple, thx. Somehow, one wonders why "they" don't just program these thgs into LO (& SU) in the first place...??

OK, I hadn't noticed that the dimensions were so alterable in LO. Cool.

Now here's an interesting conundrum; let us assume we have arrived at the time when LO dimensions work perfectly (ie they keep up with changes in the model at least as well as the current SU dimensions do, etc etc) - so does SU lose its dimensioning? Do they stay but take on the style from the LO setup? Are they chocolate coated?

Let's hope that model dimensions will stay. Not everyone uses Layout, and DWG/DXF and PDF exports are still needed.
