[Plugin] UVTools v0.1
-
Splat and splat, I tried with the scale, with untextured and textured object, but splat is much faster. I tried on the different coputer.. I can use UVtools only once after first "installation", first object is perfect and than splat, splat. Can someone help me, please? My objects are not so complicate, revolve surfaces (like vase).
Please upload the SKP file so I can take a look. Thanks.
milena,
As I expected, you are trying to map the back faces while the front faces have no material applied to them. You need to apply the material to the front side of the faces. First, reverse the faces of your vase and then paint the material on them. Then, use UVTools.

Thanks a lot for tip!!!
Is it possible with your tool to get this results?.I find on-line this vase and I am trying to apply on my models but I am not sure I am doing right. Can you see this file, please?
-
I found a solution! thanks again!!!!
-
I cant figure out how to use this... When I open up sketch up, is it suppose to be in plugins?
-
Hi Luigi, the very first post explains the usage. Please read that, then if you still can't get it going, ask again.

Could someone please tell me how to use this plugin in sketchup? I put the file in the plugins folder but I do not see a "UV tools" context menu. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Justin Spencer

Hi spence,
Someone else posted this issue using a Mac system. I am actually not sure if the plugin works at all on Mac. Has anyone got it to work on Mac? -
Hi Whaat,
Since posting my first post I was able to find the "UV tools" context menu. But when I select cylindrical mapping it doesn't seem to be doing anything. A few times it has caused SketchUp to quit. I'm going to try this on my PC and see if it works there. If it works I'll know it's a mac issue.
thanks,
spenceju

dear Whatt, I am still pending for improvment , maybe adding qubic mapping, or maybe adding an interface...,
thanx again for great plugins -
Another great addition would be automatic unwrapping.
You make a copy of your object.
You select the edges where the cuts will be and the model gets flat.
Then texture it and copy the UV info back to the original object.
Doable? -
Pixero, it would be great , and I guess it would be doable using SU7
-
There's a technique called Peltmapping thats kind of "automatic".
Take a look at the QuickTime movie here for an example what it can do.
(First half of the movie is mostly cutting the model.)

sorry guys, I am swamped with other projects. I won't be updated this one for awhile.
-
That is some very nifty stuff Whaat!
Thanks a million for this!

Hi spence,
Someone else posted this issue using a Mac system. I am actually not sure if the plugin works at all on Mac. Has anyone got it to work on Mac?Yes, the trick on a Mac is finding the right ruddy plug in folder.
Go to Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 7/SketchUp/plugins and stick your ruby script in there.
Ignore the plugins folder in the SketchUp 7 package in Applications, it's just there to confuse you.
I've just tried it on one object, a complicated vase that already had the texture badly applied by projection. Worked fine. Texture a little woolly looking but UV projection correct. I will experiment with the textures to see how it works.
Great stuff Whaat!

I downloaded this plugin today, since I had the need to map a sphere. In SU 7.1, I created a sphere (by creating a circle, deleting half of it, then using follow me to create the spehere. I select the entire sphere, right click and choose the UV Tools content sensitive menu option, and SketchUp crashes and closes down.
Is this plugin compatible with the free version of SU 7.1? If so, any idea what I might be doing wrong?
-
Hi Wizaerd,
It crashed my SU 4 times today, too.
I'll have to get a better look into it but then Dale (developer of this plugin) can also see the details (I'll make sure to let him know if I found that the tool is indeed the culprit). -
now we are on sketchup 7.1 , and no improvement on special mapping!!! so once again I am gonna ask our ruby heros for help and progressing the script
-
No need to create a sphere the hard way. If you have SketchyPhysics installed, use it to easily create a sphere with the SketchySolids toolbar. UVtools will map it without problem, except for a few hurricanes in both poles.
