I'm using 9x12 Intuos 3 tablet, but also effectively used 4x6 tablet for long time before this. Key apps for me are Photoshop but Also Illustrator. The pen tool there is pressure aware, so you can make some really natural and fluid, but still vector objects. Both the Intuos and 4x6 graphire come with nice mouse with scroll wheel. Driver lets you customize for specific applications, so if you are setting up a new system, you can get the graphire at $100 for about price of nice mouse. This mouse like the pen is cordless and never needs batteries. One day a Ciintiq would be great, but are a bit pricy for now. Maybe the macebook tablet, will have pressure sensitive display when it comes out?

Chris...I assume it's showing every monitor ever plugged in: the one when it was built, the window's driver one when I plugged it in at home, then the samsung driver install, evidentally the aliens had two plugged in when they beamed it aboard to f... it up, then the one when I took it to the guys across the street. Julian...ME TOO! It does have it's moments: when installing programs I get the mental image of the Enterprise going into warp...autocad was completely loaded in the time it took to go into the next room and close a window ( :`) Yesterday I did a test (when it was running normally)...opened a 40meg file in PSP and duplicated a couple of layers, opened a 4meg file in SU6, back to PSP hit save (the slowest thing this 'chine does...slower than my 1.6gig Pentium M with its turtle HD for some reason?), then in SU started doing mouse middle button orbits: no hitch in it's get-along and neither processor got max-ed. So the machine can indeed multitask quite nicely like it's supposed to...why would he tell me XP couldn't do that well? Anyway, I'm starting another thread listing all my specific problems hoping to get some smarts before I take it back in...hope something dawns on someone! I will surely need some ammo to get them to start down the path of switching out hardware components.

@unknownuser said: X11.app is Apple Computer's implementation of the X Window System for Mac OS X. Apple's implementation of X11 is based on the X.Org Server and adds support for hardware-accelerated 2D graphics, hardware OpenGL acceleration and integration with Aqua, the Mac OS X graphical user interface (GUI). X11.app was initially available as a downloadable public beta for Mac OS X v10.2 and later included as a standard package in Mac OS X v10.3, which can be downloaded from Apple's website. In Mac OS X v10.4, X11.app was an optional install included on the install DVD. Since Mac OS X v10.5, X11 is installed by default. There is no official way to install X11.app on 10.4 or 10.5 without the install DVD. In 10.4, Apple's X11.app implemented X11 protocol release 6.6 (X11R6.6). This implementation includes an XFree86 4.4 based X11 window server, Quartz rootless window manager, libraries, and basic utilities such as xterm.[1] "Rootless" means that X window applications show up on the Quartz desktop, appearing like any other windowed Quartz application (i.e. not in a virtual desktop contained within another window). In Mac OS X v10.5, X11.app was rewritten to use the more popular X.Org Server (X11R7.2) rather than XFree86.[2] The source code for X11.app is available from Apple under the Apple Public Source License. from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X11.app

I won't register and download it for the moment. Why do they want my phone number and name? Will this version of Truespace install the known Microsoft spyware? Does it workis with wine in Ubuntu? At this moment I won't work with truespace. I have to do some roman sculptures in a future (it depends of my real world work, 3D for me is a hobby. Next months are crucial and I expect to have less free time). But If I am delayed in my project, I hope that sketchup "turns organic". Some features for making people and animals would be great. And, in fact, I prefer Blender as that software is free, and you don't have to give personal data. Perhaps I am a maniatic (well, I am convinced of that ) But at this momment I am not going to download it. Anyway competition is good. People of Sketchup will work harder

Normally when I see that kind of artefacting I'd say you tried overclocking your graphics card and the memory got damaged. The nVidia 8500's seem to work well with SU, so my first port of call would be to try a diffrent driver. Try installing the latest driver. If you are already using the latest driver, then try an earlier driver (from say a few months ago). Failing that I'd have the graphics card tested. Also, I'm not really aware of any hardware that'll make SU scream. For the some or other really really really stupid reason SU doesn't support contemporary hardware the way it should. You'll be better off with a highly clocked CPU (dual and quad core CPU's don't directly relate to better performance in SU6 ATM - might just help with other apps running in the background), an 8xxx series nVidia graphics card (the 8800 GTX really rocks for a gaming class card) and between 2 and 4GB of RAM (depending on your usage and OS). Since your machine complies to most of the previous, I wouldn't spend my money on a new machine just yet, wait until SU7 sees the light of day to see if the situation changes.

Its pretty good, and i understand its hugely powerful in the right hands, but its just so slow. Doing anything takes forever. Im not very fond of the whole parts and assembelies thing either, i prefer SUs groups and components.

Anssi, Thanks Mate, but I think Iv'e found the problem. I hooked up an oldish LCD monitor and SU seems to be running sweetly even with large files. So it would seem that my ancient CRT monitor wasn't able to handle SU with a current well speced video card. [ed. actually it couldnt cope with an older card either.....I think it just ran ot of steam ] So it looks like I will indeed have to replace it with that Samsung 245T.......... If anybody is interested.......http://www.trustedreviews.com/displays/review/2007/11/09/Samsung-SyncMaster-245T/p1 Stu

The best HD TV only does 1920x1080. I watch all my animations in a movie theatre, that's just how I roll. Seriously though, I've found that outputing them at a large resolution and then scaling them down seems to help with the moire affect and crispness. The former can be a big problem with a 6 story brick building. -Brodie
