I would start by buying SketchUp Pro, the Make (free) version is for hobbyists and not for commercial application. Then I would pick either no. 2 or 3 (your budget dependent), Quadro GFX cards currently offer no advantage in SketchUp.

No thanks Juju. I bought the Evga gtx 1080 founders edition and can't really show benchmarks that have to do with SU. Within SU it is more a matter of 'feeling'. But my biggest annoyance in SU is the mega slow copying of compex groups and this seems to go much faster now...

Based on what I've learned, (my personal printer is a Solidoodle...they are not that great and subsequently went bankrupt ) here are my recommendations in order from high to low budget. Ultimaker is very good, if not the best - and at $2499 the price matches its reputation. Zortrax M200 is also excellent, at $2000 it better be. Wanhao Duplicator I3 is the best value, with high reviews at only $399. For more reviews, Make magazine's shootout and 3D Hubs trend reports are very helpful.

@unknownuser said: And also, I recall reading some time ago that "todays" cpu clock speed is in no way the same as the old way of measuring. IOW todays 2.7~3.0ghz is many time(s) faster than single core cpu 2.7~3.0ghz of years ago. (IDK.....is this correct?) Unfortunately my technical knowledge doesn't quite extend to the intricacies of CPU architecture, but the answer is both yes and no. Yes: considering a single core vs single core and clock for clock today's CPU's get more done those of yesteryear, mainly due to optimizations and additional instruction sets. Add to that the effect of multiple cores, and you have your answer quite clear, but some software isn't optimized to utilize multiple cores, they then merely help take care of other things in the background. Setting software and core affinity can help single core applications. No: unless the software can actually benefit from the optimizations and additional instruction sets, you're pretty much in the same spot you were years ago, apart from power efficiency and heat dissipation. Some improvements will be hard to spot in the real world and many of them only really stand out in benchmarks designed to measure these things.

@driven said: It's in the shop… the driver caused a kernel panic, when I shut down after failing to run it's Uninstaller.app… it may well be the straw that broke the camels back, as opposed to being fully responsible… if they can recover the drive, it should have log info to help work out what happened… otherwise it's some very expensive data recovery attempt… john Hopefully you will be able to get your data back. I am now wondering if I should look around and see if its possible to get a good deal for SketchUcation members when it comes to cloud backup. I was stumped only for the stuff I had in the cloud. I saw this on the Gadget Show....even an amateur painted something pretty impressive. You do need a kinect-style device tracking your movement in the room though.

I think this is more exiting than some videos from 2014. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=80%26amp;t=64302 This is a early version without many features but it's for real and its right inside SketchUp.

Tiltbrush runs on the HTC Vive, which just sold 15K units in 10 minutes! http://www.wareable.com/vr/htc-vive-vr-headset-april-2016 Yeah I was one of the 15,000 mugs But very excited to develop create things for it including from SU. I have been practising taking models into Unreal 4 in order to then move around then in VR once the headset gets delivered. I was lucky enough to have a go at Tiltbrush in VR at a work event it was very good!

Many, many thanks No worries, mate.

So I've tried two of the three contenders. FOXIT PHANTOM PDF BUSINESS (US $129): Works great, generally Easy to use UI seems designed in a recognisable, familiar way had a problem when rotating / combining larger PDF (scans: 300dpi A0) files, 5 to 7 pages at a time, software kept on crashing, worked fine on smaller files though cannot zoom in on PDF with mouse scroll wheel couldn't drag&drop multiple files into the UI area to add them when combining PDF's fair price but will have to live with some irritations. BLUEBEAM REVUCAD (US $299): Works great Fairly easy to use the UI will take some getting used to, could do with better organisation didn't have a problem when combining and rotating multiple PDF (scans: 300dpi A0) files, 5 to 7 pages at a time, even not so when combining 39 page 300dpi A0 pages, was quite snappy about it actually (I'm quite impressed) did I mention expensive? This is the only thing actually keeping me from purchasing this product.
