here is a screen shot with the "list" button open.

      Picture 2.png

are there are any mac su users out there to share any thoughts?
i think something is wrong. it just "feels" like the material panel looks different in my memory but i cant be sure....

      hmmmmm....

      anybody?

I think something is wrong with my material browser. It is using the regular mac os x color picker, with a choice for materials. There is no arrow I can see, only forward backward and "home" - does this look correct to you?

(I get the feeling my whole material palette is gone and replaced by the standard color one)
      (Mac OS x 10.5.3, SU pro 6xxx) ....

    • RE: How do i *find* an object of a certain material in my mode

      Greetings!

      Here's what happens:

ERROR: - File "/Users/jason/Desktop/080523pch-sketch-snow-test_Textures/\Program Files@Last Software\SketchUp 4\Materials\Wavy_Crosshatch.jpg" has not been found. Render cannot continue

      So: Wavy_Crosshatch.jpg is the culprit.

BUT: Is it possible to show the names of the materials in the material browser? All I can see is the picture. But I am sure there is a more sophisticated way....I don't know what it looks like! Just the name...;(

    • How do i *find* an object of a certain material in my mode

      Greetings all.

I've got a very large, complex model which has, somewhere in it, one little thing which has a particular material assigned to it.

This is a problem because I am using Maxwell render to render the model. And, when one material cannot be found, it creates multiple errors and greatly complicates the rendering process. The frustrating part is that I don't know what object has this material or where this material is on my harddrive.

      so here is the question:

      • how do i find an object which has a particular material (i have the name of the material)?
      • is it possible to use a script or something else, "replace material X with default material"? or so on?
( i know about global material script (its great!) but i need something more precise in this case)

Looking forward to any wisdom which might be out there.

    • RE: Windowizer problem?

      Dear Rick -

Greetings - just a quick note - the comment above brings out an interesting point.

Since I often render with Maxwell after the model is built, I have also used the trick of push/pulling with the + on to make the "inside" of a window. Its a bit of extra work but, given the tremendous fantastic power of your script I am always quite happy to do it.

      BUT

Why not edit the Windowizer to make double-sided windows? Perhaps, if there is no "second" or "inside" wall, it could just offset the original face by the required depth (ie., set Wall Thickness) and then ZAM! Its all ready.

      What do you think?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

      Best wishes from Berlin,

      Jason

eh mate. i don't live in canada but rather germany. over here potatoes are also very popular. previously i was very concerned about the ability of SU to model potatoes, just as you. however, with recent developments - such as FFD and smooth stretchy, both mashed, smashed, and all other types of potatoes should be easy. this, combined with sketchy physics, leads me to believe that we will soon be able to render and animate all important potato operations with our beloved program.

well well i fixed it! strange. i wiped out all of my plugins, started again, one at a time, and now it is fine.
so, the only thing i learned is that you CAN mess up your sketchup by having too many plugins. but i should have realized that... i am going to erase the posts above. sorry to all if i wasted anyone's time ... ;(

      dear fredo6

greetings from berlin. fredo6 - i'd say, don't spend too much time on this. your development is very important to many of us i think, so keep going. i think this is the priority. in the meantime, i think i might try your script with a fresh install on another machine to see if i have made this happen through a script conflict...? also, i can always re-install the first version for my "real" work...

BUT, just in case you are still curious and because you asked the question, i tested the script with the other two tools to answer your question. what i discovered is that it crashes in (i think) exactly the same way. attached are the two logs.

      my method was as follows:

      1. open a new drawing in a new SU session.
      2. draw a box.
      3. push pull it up a bit (with the regular tool).
      4. pick a face.
      5. use one of the three tools.
      6. it starts - says, "double click or press enter to begin...)
      7. (pause) ... progress bar moves ... then ...
      8. <blank>
      9. SU disappears, i am in the finder ...

my biggest question is: why does the original script work and the new one not? what has changed? and, are any other mac users having this or similar problems? i am very curious. any mac people out there to comment...?

      the mystery continues....

i've also attached the traductor pieces to make sure they aren't causing the problem....

      best wishes to all

      Greetings everyone.

Fred - Sorry! Your work is so wonderful, but, for some reason it seems to be systematically crashing my machine.
The mac makes really nice crash logs in this case. FYI, the full log is attached (because I am not a jedi programmer, I cannot understand it!) but here is some of what it looks like:

      Please note:

      • this is a reproducible crash situation, it happens every time with any jp operation;
      • I am running on an intel mac (See above);
      • the first (older version) of the plugin seems to run perfectly;

Or perhaps, I am doing something wrong? My suspicion is that there is a conflict with another ruby I have?
Are there any other mac users who have this problem?

Hoping all are well and that this can somehow be identified!

    • RE: Will there ever be a MAC version of Sketchyphysics?

      Dear Chris,

For me, the idea of using SP wouldn't be to look at the binding characteristics of nails and other small level details using the physics of individual connections. Rather, I am interested in simulating somehow the overall physics of the structure. Years ago in grad school we used at the time some fancy software which modeled the vectors in structures. These models where extreme simplifications of the building. There were no nails or other little things, we just defined - as you seem to - the joints, saying it was, a pin or a whatever. Then, we would define:

       - what the cross section of the element was,
       - the length
       - the load
       - the characteristic (how strong it is)

and that's it. Then we would watch our little towers collapse. It was GREAT, simple, intuitive, and very very educational and helpful in developing a relationship with the buildings we were designing. This is what I am thinking - not to use the same model for creating visual "views" or simulations of what the building looks like and feels like - but instead, to use SP as a path for learning about other characteristics of the projects we are designing. I've never actually used SP until now (After all, I'm on a Mac...), but this is not so different I think from your defining solids routine, no?

What I am thinking is that, just like we architects often use high-poly models with fancy texture and light source definition, etc., to create super, competition-winning images of our designs, (which by the way are often total lies when it comes to the actual physics of the designs...;) - I'd love to eventually be able to create models in SP which have another purpose, that is, to explore the the physics - in simulation! of our projects as a step in the research which is design.

      Cher M. Fred,

Your script is awesome. But, I've installed it but it seems to be crashing everytime on my mac. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I got the old version to work fine. This new one - 20 Feb 2008 - loads, icons are crisp and beautiful. I select a face, pull it out - even just one face - and then, progress bar pops, looks nice ... freeze ... pause - su disappears. ;(

Has anyone else seen this? I am running su pro 6/ mac leopard/ intel 2.4mhz/ 3GB ram .... ? What to do?
Perhaps it is my installation ... ?

      Happy for any advice.

Merci bien en avance et best from Berlin,

Great news Chris! Thanks so much. I wish you well on this project which I am certain will be very appreciated by many of us.

Since you are tuned in to this thread, can you please tell me what is the current status of the "architecture/reality" simulation question? I know you have written elsewhere that the Newton SDK is not so precise (game engine core, etc.) and therefore SP isn't the best for this purpose, but still, I am curious about eventually using it for building design. Any thoughts on this? Or, perhaps, you could provide a link if this has been discussed elsewhere?

      Greetings everyone.

Just a question - will this amazing incredible software ever be available for MAC? Just a question. I really wish I could help but I am no coder, just a regular architect....

Also: what about putting in real architectural/physics? So that it could be used to test, say snowloads on roofs? That would be amazing.

      Please advise
