    • Rotating an object

I want to create a circle and rotate in 90' to make it verticle. I've played around with that rotate tool, it just rotates in along a point, but not actually rotating it along the red or green axis, which I need to do by 90' to get is to go the way I need it.

Is there a way to just pick an axis and rotate the object without using that tool?

Wasn't sure what forum to put them in, decided the "help" one was most likely right.

These blueprints can help you make some impressive ships with some skill at sketchup. Hope they provide some people here with some πŸ˜„

I even added Marians name into the title so he might spot this thread easier. Maybe he can help out best.

Have a look at this SU model, please:

Could someone tell me how the hull and the armor panels on it were made, especially the forward ends? I'm assuming one half the center hull was made, like the upper half, then mirrored or duplicated, flipped and joined. (Hey, I know something about 3d modeling.)

I just don't know how those smooth, tapering hull sections got made and how they had those panels molded to them, I've used blender off and on again for quite a while and still can;t make something like that. Did someone make a 3d outline of the hull cross section and extrude it along a curve using the "follow me" command I've heard of?

      Thanks for any help.

    • RE: Great way to organise your sketch-up files!

I just wish I could get my vistugh machine to display thumbnail images of the models I download at 3d warehouse like my XP machine does.

Holy fracking frak, dude! If you were to post tutorials, I'd become your eager acolyte and sing your praises daily! Is all your 3D work in sketchup? Do you render with that kukythera?

That first one, the asteroid miner, looks a lot like the bayern, the first ship I plan to do in sketchup.

I noticed you use XP. When you go to a skp file does it show a preview of the object in it? My XP system does, but when I use my vistugh system it just shows a generic icon for skp files. I wish I g=could get vistugh to show previews of skp files like XP does.

    • RE: Greetings and salutations!

BTW, I installed SU3D on my xp machine and I was pleaqsantly surprised to see that previews of the models in the files were displayed as icons.

Then I installed it on my vistugh machine and only got the regular icons. Is there any trick to getting SU3d icons to show the model in the file on a vistugh machine?

I've downed a lot of models, it's be greeat to be able to see what I was opening before I did

    • Greetings and salutations!

I'm brand new to sketchup, don't know a thing about it yet asides from the fact I've seen it do some cool stuff and, if exported to an advanced renderer, it's models can take on a photo realistic quality.

I've used sculpt animate on my old amiga from early days, I've put a lot of time into Blender and now would like to try Sktechup.

I have some newbie questions that I hope are easy to answer:

      1. What are the best tutorials for sketchup for a newbie who does have some grasp of the 3d modeling basics?

      2. what are the most useful add-ons for the free version of sketchup, where does one acquire them and how are they installed?

      3. I love making detailed model starships of my own design and decided to get sketchup while waiting for the newest version of blender after seeing some amazingly good starships made and rendered in sketchup. Anyone have and good tutorials on making good looking starships?

I hope SU3D is as easy as people say it is, and that the free version works instead of being a lure.
