RE: The "Duh!" thread (aka the Doh! thread)
ah, heres some of my best duh moments. learning how to use groups/componenets, understanding the outliner, learning to use xray when after using follow me to clean up a curved model, and my fav duh so far, (this one stumpped me for months!) drawing on top of shapes with the pencil tool when things are made into groups/components to make model building easier and more precise.

Did you actually give bonzai3d a try, and view the Introductory videos? Once you learn a few simple tricks, you should find that bonzai3d is a very powerful program that is also quite quick and easy to use.
hey man add very expensive, inconsiderate of hobbyist wallet, buggy as all hell, lies through out, (affordable for who???) ill stick with sketchup man. and i think your a total phony on your "affordable for beginners campaign) i didn't really expect anything different though due to your insane prices for formz
i guess the price determines the quality
anyway i don't need this financial stress sketchup is free
Expensive? $499.
What's your comparison?
Sketchup Pro goes for $495.
Vue 7 Infinite: $935
Cinema 4d Core: $995
Rhino: β¬995
3DSMAx $3495
Maya: Β£4995There aren't that many cheaper 3D modelling tools. MOI goes for $195. And you got blender that's free. But I don't see it being in the "very expensive" category when you compare the whole market.
As for bugs: It's a beta. It's expected to be bugs in betas. I fail to see why people keep on complaining about bugs in pre-release versions of software. Even final versions of software got bugs. SketchUp got its fair share of them.
your correct. when you compare bonzai to other professional modeling apps bonzai is cheap. BUT, the guy said it would be priced low so beginners and hobbyist could afford it. (many people assumed it would be affordable like silo or ac3d. and that's one of the reason why many people dl the demo of bonzai including me. however when it came time to release the actual price everything the guy said was just pure lies and went out the window... 500 dollars is NOT affordable unless you are a professional or have rich parents. simple put, it was a bait and switch

RE: I never noticed this before...
well i want to draw stuff like sci-fi vehicles, alien ships. flying saucers, military vehicles from earth, tanks and stuff. but im having alot of trouble. using sketchup to do such drawings. it makes me think its not possible. or not possible unless your a very talented artist.
see, im a electronic musician by trade, and im very good at what i do, but in my spare time i like to listen to music, and its soo boring just sitting at a desk staring at a screen while listening... so i like i like to use sketchup while i listen. cant say i do anything great with sketchup but maybe im not using it right or maybe i need to use some plugins. there are alot of plugins for sure but i was purposely trying to avoid using them and learn the ins and outs of sketchup before i added any. ill try the things you guys suggested.

I never noticed this before...
hi i was using sketchup last night when i noticed something that i never noticed before... i was drawing a building, and was trying to draw detailed windows when, i noticed that as i zoomed in and out the more i zoomed in and out, the more details were added or removed, (as if you were seeing an image up close and far away and how it distorts to the naked eye. i noticed, that because of this, (unless im missing something) this makes it very difficult to create finely detailed drawings. because, sketchup draw such think line widths. unlike a pencil that draws very very thin light lines and that you can get very detailed with. is sketchup not designed to get up close and personal? does sketchup work best in a less detailed environment? also see here
what is sketchup really designed to do draw/create? it doesn't create people and organic forms well. and if it can create realistic vehicles without any advanced external plugins, (or advanced knowledge on how to use such plugins) that's news to me. what kind of things could i draw in sketchup that as a new artist with no experience would give me the highest success rate?

RE: Question about adding details?

even the engine on the right might be considered as having too much detail.
im not sure i understand? are you saying its not good to add details? what about this guy
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=15765 is it a matter of monitor size? i mean surely there has to be some detail? -
Question about adding details?
hi. ive been modeling in sketchup for a while now and im getting a bit better. something that i don't understand is adding details to a model. or rather, how much details? if you look at the image, the space ship has a left and right engine. now, if you look closer, you will see that the engine on the left has so much detail that when its looked at in normal size, all you see is small white lines, now if you look at the engine on the right, you can make out the engine details much more easy as there a lot less detail. so how much detail is enough?
