[attachment=2:2wg2k1rc]<!-- ia2 -->lamp (1).png<!-- ia2 -->[/attachment:2wg2k1rc] First, the photo of the lamp isn't quite as straight on as it needs to be. Second, your lamp base isn't a perfect match to the the photo. Your lamp is not as slender as the one in the photo appears to be. Actually I like the shape you drew better but it doesn't match the lamp so it isn't surprising that you are getting the results you are. Any chance you can get a better photo and the real dimensions off the lamp? I think I would just paint the lamp with a brushed metal texture and not try to use the lamp photo at all. By the way, for something like this you might find it easier to work in fractional inches rather than in Architectural units. Tried it again. Here is the photo of the lamp and tried the other template but it was cutting the top off for some reason after using the follow me.So maybe it's just too hard to get a perfect mach and detail in this situation that this is the outcome in this one too? I've not experienced either of those issues. and yes you need V8 to save toolbars.

An alternative would be to move the vent component into place, Hit Ctrl+X to cut the component, open the lid component for editing and hit Edit>Paste in place. Since you're getting into nesting components you might think about how the lid could/should be made. I would set up something like this if you look at the Outliner <Lid assembly> |- <Dome> |- <Handle> |- <Hook> |- <Vent> This will make it easy to handle the lid assembly and yet leave the parts as separate components.
