got to agree with juju . . . the productivity of the ruby amateurs must be putting the real team to shame!
Procedural modelling? Frankly I would rather see the text tool working properly . . and Layout too . .

      dxf export still WIP TIG?

      IMPORTING - sorted!
I am trialling Deep Exploration at the moment. It converts dwg to skp complete with text! (something Sketchup cant do currently) so I am happy that I can now get dwg into Sketchup.

      EXPORTING - still a problem!
Sketchup - exports skp to dwg (inc dimensions) but no text-tag!
Deep Exploration - exports skp to dwg (inc text-tag) but no dimensions!

I need to use text-tag because 'normal text wont stay flat . . but I cant give copies of drawings to other consultants as dwg without losing text or dimensions.

Oh I do wish the SU team would sort this mess out.

    • Dual Graphics Card Query

      I am thinking of buying a laptop with a Dual 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8700M

Question - my understanding is that dual SLI is really 2 graphics cards? Can Sketchup use both of them or is the second one effectively redundant and should I therefore go for 512mb on a single card?

Same question re the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7500. Does Sketchup only actually use one core?

    • RE: SU on Notebook

I should specifically say I am not looking for Mac, and not looking for a laptop. I want something small and notebook sized like the Sony Vaio TZ series
      http://vaio.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProductCategory.action?site=voe_en_GB_cons&category=VN+TZ+Series
The graphics card on this seems to be an Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with 250mb.
I was wondering if anyone is runnning SU on this size of device?

I am seriously tempted to buy a little Sony Vaio notebook. Is anyone successfully using SU on a notebook? I think they have integrated graphics so I am wondering if it works well.

    • Cool software like on CSI ?

On CSI-Miami last night I watched as they took a blurry image from a cellphone and 'enhanced' it . . zooming in to read the telephone number on a business card lying on a table 100 feet behind the person in the image. Exactly what software does that? Mr Wolf?

I dont think this belongs in the Ruby section? Please relocate if it does . .anyway.

I want to clear out my ruby scripts and start again as I am sure there is junk in there and I just want to carefully add what i really need.

Q - How much can I delete? What stuff belongs in Plugins by default as part of the original install?

    • RE: How can I have more than one flat plan-view scene?

thanks wo3dan . . I understand it now! I really appreciate your efforts to explain this!

Susans solution however is blindingly brilliant and actually a lot easier.
Just reposition the axes to the geometry you want to view, then right-click on the new axes and choose 'align view'!
      Perfect.

    • RE: How can I have more than one flat plan-view scene?

thanks Wo3Dan . . I tried the google groups method but didnt understand it!
The cameratilt ruby works fine for me BUT it will not accept a tilt angle less than 1 degree. This means that it is almost impossible to align my building 'square' to my screen.
1 degree error is actually quite a lot.
Thanks for all the feedback so far . . my search continues. I still think a 'Ctrl+Pan' feature to allow you to manually 'spin' the current view would be simple and perfect.

    • RE: How can I have more than one flat plan-view scene?

      thanks smartsizer,
you know I never even noticed the word Top appearing up there when manually orbiting. When I see the blue axis flipping around it doesnt 'feel' like its flat. There is no blue axis in the true top view. I still think it would be nice if a Ctrl+Pan cold force the true Top view while rotating

    • RE: How can I have more than one flat plan-view scene?

I even had the idea of changing the Axes. You might logically presume that the 'plan' view is aligning the screen to the default axes and that by changing the axes to the view you want then you could force the plan view to be relative to the new axes . . . . . . alas . . no luck.

    • RE: How can I have more than one flat plan-view scene?

Obviously we are not wanting to clone the entire model just to generate another view of it. that defeats the point of having 'scenes'.
What we really need is a 'Ctrl + Pan' which lets you drag-rotate the plan view (around the centre of the screen say). Maybe some expert on here knows another way? I cant beleive no-one has needed this before . . . . it seems such a simple thing.

    • RE: How can I have more than one flat plan-view scene?

Thanks Tom, but I specifically need to 'rotate'. In the first scene I want to see the entire site at an angle that suits the shape of the site and the North point and on a second scene, the ground floor plan zoomed in at a different rotation.

      Sorry for not explaining that.
