    • Using a Radius to create a circle?

Hello, I am Steve. I manufacture guitar accessories. I have a machine shop. I am advanced and find Sketchup very useful in a number of ways. As a machinist using CAD/CAM, I design in Sketchup first, before finalizing my drawings in a CAD program.

Can someone please explain why Sketchup requires me to use a radius when creating a circle? When I visit my tool box, I do not measure anything with a radius. I do not purchase drills, or anything for that matter, using a radius.

Sketchup forces me to pull up my calculator, after measuring the width, and divide that in half. Every time.

Why? It's unproductive. Is this a bug?

It appears, by just using Cleanup3, you may be able to get rid of annoying blue lines.

    • RE: Can't delete a line from a old component

      Likely a layer issue...

Turn off all the layers, except "Layer 0". Group and move any geometry you want to keep to separate layer(s). Blue lines still remain? Now choose Entity, and see which layer the Blue line(s) are on. Go to that layer, and group everything. Create a new layer and move too that layer. Now delete the old layer.

      Blue lines should have disappeared.

Always keep "Layer 0" empty, and all object / geometry independently grouped, or as separate components. Each on it's own layer. If you find yourself, deleting random unwanted lines in your drawing(s), it is because you are not following this procedure. Learn to use your Lock feature, to select all other geometry you want to group and/or move.

I think most of us learn this the hard way. Random unwanted lines, are the single most time consuming wasted effort, you will spend using Sketchup. Goto Extension Warehouse and download CleanUp3. It is available for both Mac and PC. It's not perfect, though it will get rid of most random lines and specs. Always inspect you drawings after using it, that it did not deleted more than you wanted. A real time saver. πŸ˜’

    • RE: (TRICK) To re-enable skp file preview

      For Mac

      Download GraphicConverter: http://www.lemkesoft.de/en/products/graphicconverter/download/
      Select: Download now (from Switch.ch)

Once you open the Free version of GraphicConverter, File/Open and find the folder, where you have placed all your Sketchup files. Under EDIT / Select All

Now at the bottom click on (Create Preview) This will change all πŸ˜› the Sketchup logo(s) into it's graphic thumbnail.

Note: It will not launch the graphic icon, unless you are in Sketchup.

Open Sketchup and (Open File). You should see the Thumbnails, and these icons will launch. πŸ˜„
