Thank you very much TIG. I will send it to my MAC friend.
I really appreciate your response.

well in my case I had used Stuffit to zip the file. So I was using a third party zip program.
Both the files that I provided actually contained the identical zipped contents, they were just named differently.
I had renamed the extension on one of them to .rbz before handing it over. That one worked just fine, as I said.
So I still have a mystery. The issue is not that the zip file was created with the native MAC zipper. It is interesting that you did experience some problem with that though.
I am at a loss. It doesn't make sense and I have 2 MAC users with whom it has happened in succession.
I have tested this with 2 different MAC people.
I have provided them with a zipped ruby file and another file that was zipped but already renamed with a .rbz extension.
I asked them to rename the file with the .zip extension to have a .rbz extension.
They each did that with no problem at all. However the little icon to the left of the file name still looked like the icon for zip files and did not change to the same icon that the .rbz file had associated with it.
From within SketchUp under Preferences>Extensions clicking on Install Extension and navigating to those files shows the renamed file grayed out. There is no way to access it even though the it is clearly renamed and visible as a .rbz file.
The file which I had provided as .rbz was fine and accessible and it got installed fine. That had just been renamed on my Windows system in exactly the same fashion as I had asked these MAC guys to do.
Any body have any advice?
Oh for sure, that would be it. People do that all the time in my classes.
This is a fabulous script indeed, but why is it not listed on Didier's Ruby Depot? Default All Layers , IS listed but not this one "Default Layer Geometry".
Is it still working ? I ask because I use it one of my classes and a MAC user could not get it to do anything. It works fine on my PC but not on this fellow's MAC. Is that why it is no longer listed on Didier's site?
Thanks TIG
Thanks Rich. It is clear from your link that there is not a new version.
It is also strange that it is not listed on Didier's Ruby site at all while the other version: Default All Layers , IS.
I have to wonder if there is a good reason, like maybe it really is not expected to work on the MAC anymore.
I find this a really useful script and I am still using it on the PC. I was showing it to someone on the MAC and he couldn't get it to work. I looked for an update, just in case, and I cannot find it being offered at all?
Is it gone? Is it gone because it doesn't work on the MAC? Can someone fill me in?
Also, I found when we "renamed" a .zip file in the MAC to .rbz, the icon for it did not change. The name changed successfully but the icon was still the one for the zip file and when we went to "install extension" in the MAC that file was greyed out and we couldn't get at it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks much.
Didier,
I, and one of my students ( he is MAC I am PC) have had a problem with the Layer Manager.
I have tried to download, unzip and reload the whole thing but there is no difference. None of the tools work at all.
I have been reading through here and I downloaded the "fixed" layermanger.rb and accidently installed it directly in the PlugIns folder ... and then the Layer Mangager worked. The very first icon did not work but most of the others that I tried did work.
When I realized that I had placed it in the wrong folder, I moved it into the Layer Manager folder, and then the toolbar stopped working again.
I do have all the dependent rubies in the "Tools" folder so that is not the problem. Can you shed some light on what the problem might be? Many thanks. I am including reports from both the PC and the MAC from the Ruby console:
PC:
$:
["C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins", "C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Tools", "C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/ruby"]
MAC:
$:
["/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 8/SketchUp/Plugins", "/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 8/SketchUp/Tools", "/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 8/SketchUp/Plugins/ruby", "/Users/dougiecraig"]
I think of all of you often. Just a little late.
Happy New Year to all of my friends at SketchUcation!
May this be a healthy an prosperous year for all.
Love it. Thanks Spencer!
I got this link from Ray Brown, a sometime poster here, but much more often on the old SketchUp forum.
It is such a hoot, I had to share it with you guys.
Honk if you like it.

Barry, I apologize. I forgot that I had posted here and I really should have come back and shared the information you provided. Oversight. So sorry.
Video Cards and Drives DO make a huge difference for this particular problem.
If I remember correctly there is a sub routine within SketchUp programming called the "Facefinder" or "Facemaker". It is the logic that decides when to create a face and when not and when to "embed" internal lines. The results are different depending on the computer.
I know because I have taught SketchUp is many different computer labs with many different computres, video cards and drivers. In a single classroom of 10 people we can all be doing the same exercise and even when all the computers are the same configurations, and the staff swears they have all the same driver versions, several people will have different faces missing on the same model.
My laptop, with a pretty good video card will have different results from the rest of the class every time. The results are different also dependent on the projector I am plugged into because those force me into a compatible resolution on the computer and that affects OPEN GL which again affects the outcome.
So yes, it is video card and driver related too!
Tim, oh, I didn't see the "Island" part. No matter I am in Victoria first 2 days next week so that could work. But if your busy, no prob. I"ll buy you a "beer" next time.
Thanks again.
That must be your other Susan girlfriend!
I may just put some Bailey's in the coffee though, does that make me Csaba-worthy?
Tim, thank you so much. I grabbed it. I now have a few in my arsenal as Mike was also kind enough to forward his.
Tim, I see you are in Vancouver. I am teaching in Vancouver next week on Wednesday and Thursday, arriving Tuesday after teaching in Victoria. Would love to have coffee if you are available! Just PM me.
Brooke thanks for the video link. I cannot actually use the Video in the class as people are expecting me to do the training but the underlying layout document used in the Video is a good one and I've asked someone at Google to dig it up and allow me to use it.
Edsun, you are right, since I won't be using the video that statement won't be an issue.
I will however be using your layout documents as the main training example that we will go through piece by piece in the class.
Thank you all very much. You have all been very kind.
Brooke, so sorry, I missed seeing your post with your suggestion. I am looking at the video as we speak. Thanks so much for pointing me to it.
Edson, I can't thank you enough. You are so very generous in being willing to share such a large and laborious document. I very much appreciate it.
Translating the Portuguese will take me much less time than creating the Layout from Scratch. Thanks again. I will PM you an email address.
When I "Move" the legs of a dimension, I lose the correct "scale". It gives the page scale instead of using the scale factor. If I undo the move, I get it back.
Don't you get that?
