    • Hiring someone to write a plugin for us

      Hello dear Sketchuppers,

We are a small consulting company that uses sketchup for natural energy design.
Because we have few people only and we are getting quite busy, we would like to outsource the creation of a plugin to help us in the design process.

Whoever would be interested in this , please PM me and I will explain details.

      Best regards
      Michele

      Thanks!
It seems this does what I wanted. I will try it.
Thanks again for your precious time and help.

    • RE: [REQ]Improved stamp tool

      Hi, thanks for your reply.
That plugin does a part of what I need but the feature that would help me a lot is the possibility to enter a max slope angle for the skirt of the stamp and it would automatically adapt to the surrounding mesh without a fixed distance offset. So, for example, you can set 45deg slope and the plugin would use this to make a skirt that is larger where the distance needed to cover the height difference using 45deg slope is bigger and narrower where it is closer in height.
Sorry if my explanation is not very clear.

    • [REQ]Improved stamp tool

      Hi all,
I often work on land preparation models and use different software to calculate cut and ffills and stuff like that but, it would be great to have some tools to create flattened faces in a piece of land directly in sketchup.
So, my request would be a plugin that can stamp like the native tool but instead of fixed offset all around, it would have an input of the max slope allowed around the flat area, with possibly a preview of it.
Of course, if anybody knows a way to do this with existing tools, please tell me.
      Best regards.

    • RE: [Plugin] Skelion (solar, shadows)

Sorry, what do you mean by link for pvsyst?

In skelion is already present an export tool for pvsyst but the exported objects that are not solar modules were not counted by pvsyst for the shadings.
The last version log of pvsyst says that it now should be possible to read these shading objects but when I tried doing it with skelion, it didn't work. So, maybe, there is a little work to do on skelion side to make it happen. I don't know if this work with other software so I am not sure it's skelion fault, that's why I was asking if it's possible.

This is the link to the change log I was talking about

    • RE: [Plugin] Skelion (solar, shadows)

Hi, I have been happily using skelion and pvsyst for some time and it's a powerful couple.
In the version log of the latest version of pvsyst, it finally says that it's now able to import shading objects from helios. So now I was wondering, is it possible to make it work for skelion?
      Thanks for your time.

    • RE: Rooftop solar

Wow, thanks guys, you honour me with such comments.

@Cotty: I played with white balance inside thea before saving the image but I couldn't make up my mind if I prefer warmer or colder balance.
What temperature you think would fit this shot best?

P.S.:I should have sayd that I did a quick PP in Gimp but just saturation and levels.

    • Rooftop solar

      Hi all,
I usually do just quick renders of solar sites to visualize shading problems and so, but this time, being on a roof and so a little more interesting situation, I tried and add some atmosphere to it.
This is a close-up of the mounting system.
Compared to the masterpieces I see on this forum I know it can be improved a lot, so I ask you masters for tips and hints on what to do. 😛
Thanks in advance for your time.

    • Questions about Maxweel standalone plugin

      Hi,

I quite like the Maxwell plugin for sketchup but I was wondering:
Is there any way to render an animation (just camera movements, no objects moving) using this plugin? Of course rendering a series of scenes would be fine too but I can't do it manually (too many frames).

Another question about it: does somebody know when/if they are going to release the free version for SU 2014?

Thank you all for your time.

    • RE: [PLUGIN]MITSUBA Render Exporter v1.5.0(20141109)

First of all, thank you very much TAK2HATA for your precious work. I am liking Mitsuba-san more and more.

I am going to propose you some things, I don't know if they are of simple implementation or not 😄 .

1)I said it in my previous post already, sorry for repeating: rendering of objects animation made in sketchup using proper-animation plugin or similars.

2)Implementing a non-raytracing rendering algorithm similar to Houdini software or similar to compare the results with different techniques.

3)Rendering texture transparencies properly (maybe it's already possible but I couldn't do it) as explained in the following pictures. The first one is just exported directly from sketchup and you can see that the fence texture is shown with transparent parts but the shadows are like if it was a non-transparent texture; the second is rendered with Twilight and you see it has transparent parts in the texture and the shadow is properly calculated as if made by just the black parts of the texture; the third one is made with Mitsuba-san and it has no transparent parts both in the texture and in the shadow.

Thanks in advance for your time and patience.
      宜しくお願いします。

    • RE: [PLUGIN]MITSUBA Render Exporter v1.5.0(20141109)

Sorry, I forgot to say I am on windows 8.1.
Also, I could use an app to concert single exr images to jpg but when I have hundreds of frames, it becomes impossible to do it manually.
Sorry if I miss something about that app or anything else, as I said before I am still a newbie.
      Thanks

P.S.:It would be great if you could make mitsuba render animation of objects done with Proper Animation plugin or other similar tools.

    • RE: [PLUGIN]MITSUBA Render Exporter v1.5.0(20141109)

I am not sure this is related to this exporter plugin but allow me to ask it:
      I tried rendering an animation with mitsuba and all worked fine apart that I got the frames in .exr format that is not supported by virtualdub so I can't make a movie of it;
how to change the output format of animation frames?
Sorry for my noobness, best regards and thanks in advance.

      I gave it a try with Brighter3D.
The lighting is provided by a HDR image of uffizzi museum and you can see it reflected on the mirror ball.

Another two shots of this subject:
added bolts on junctions, changed terrain shape and made it bumpy, and the second shot is with fog.

Any advice to improve it further is always welcome, thank you all.

    • Veteran spiderish drone watching a campsite at night

Hi everyone, I am quite new to sketchup ( especially for not-solar-related contents) and even newer to rendering.
In the free time I try and improve my technique both for work and not and this is one of this "for fun" models I made.
The rendering was made using Twilight.
Thanks in advance for your time.

    • RE: Terrain mesh edges

Thank you very much for your quick answer Mitcorb.

The answer was even simpler than I thought.

About changing the size of the triangles: I already used the add detail tool to increase the number of triangles, but what I meant (sorry if I couldn't be clear the first time)
is: is there a setting or a technique to choose freely the size of the triangles composing said mesh when I get it from Google Earth?

      Thanks again for your time.

Hi all, my name is Michele, I'm from Italy but I live in Japan since 2007.
I am still a beginner of SU but I really enjoy using it both for work and for hobby.
I use it at work as a presentation tool for solar business and then at home I just model common objects for practice.
Thank you all for putting so much knowledge in this forum.

Here is a simple rendering I made of a moka coffee pot.

    • Terrain mesh edges

First of all let me apologize in advance for any English mistake I will write.

My question is: when I get a terrain mesh from google earth in Sketchup, is there a way to show all the edges of the triangles composing the mesh? And also: Is there a way to reduce the size of these triangles?

Thank you all for the time you will spend answering my noob questions. ☀
