    • RE: Pan & zoom without adjusting camera position?

Thanks Dave, yes that is exactly what I mean. The trouble I'm having is that I have this large image that I want to be a vector drawing, and layout is struggling to deal with the size of it (I'm aware I'm probably not using layout for it's intended use, but, I'm an artist!). I have done it before where I have rendered sections in Layout and then pieced them together afterwards, but because of the perspective, I'm struggling to do that for this piece.

When I've made a clipping mask in Layout, before rendering, is it possible to detach this section so that it isn't masking, but it's its own entity?

      Thanks for your help!

    • RE: Pan & zoom without adjusting camera position?

Thanks for your answers, and sorry for not being clear! I'll try and explain again.

I have a scene saved in SKP, and the view is in perspective. I know I can click my scene and come back to this saved camera angle whenever I need to. My scene depicts a very large building. I want to zoom into an area of this, but I want the camera to stay at the same angle as I have it set at before zooming in.

What I think I want to do, is set the camera up, but then almost treat the image as a parallel projection or 2D image, letting me zoom in and out without changing the way anything looks.

Does that make any more sense?!

      Thanks!

    • Pan & zoom without adjusting camera position?

When viewing a scene in perspective, is it possible to pan & zoom around that scene ( by which I mean to zoom into certain areas), without it adjusting the camera position/viewing angle?

    • Vector rendering in perspective

If I have the style set to vector - is layout able to do this in perspective?

As in, if I have 3 cubes going backwards as in the picture, could I have the first cube with a line thickness of say 2pt and the back cube have a thickness of 0.5pt, without having to do it manually?

      Thanks!

    • RE: False perspective

Thanks for reply sfto1, but yes, that is what I've already tried! I have actually found a plugin called Eneroth Axonometric Projection which does what I need, but it only works for line drawings so isn't any good for rendering...

    • False perspective

I am looking to render a model with a sort of false perspective. I want to see the front of the building flat on, but also see the side of the building like in parallel projection. I also want to tilt it upwards so I can see the roof. If you see the cube below only the verticals are straight, the horizontals aren't. Is there a way I can set sketchup to this kind of view?

Hope that makes sense, sorry for the lack of technical terms!

    • 'Colouring in"!

I have made a rather complex model, see image below. It is coloured in the default material. I now however want to project a textured image onto it. I know I have gone around this in slightly the wrong way, but as you can imagine, this image is made up of several groups and components, all of which have several groups and components nestled inside each other.

Is there an easy way I can make everything have the projected image on it? Or do I need to go into the components further down inside and repaint them? I have tried editing the component at the top of the stack and adding the texture, but it only applies it to whatever is not grouped into other places.

I know I can edit the material and add a texture image in the paint bucket tool bar, but it isn't projected.

Hope that all makes sense - my technical terms aren't great I know! πŸ˜•

Any help gratefully received! Thanks sketchup users! 😎

    • Photoshop Post processing tutorials

Does anyone have any good websites they have found helpful for using photoshop for post processing? There is a specific issue I am having with one of my renders, where one of the 3D objets I've used has quite a lot of banding, and I'd like to soften it. Any tips gratefully received!
      Thanks

    • Objects cutting through other objects

I'm not sure the best way to explain what I want to happen, so I'll try and show with pictures!
I've drawn a building with columns etc. on it. I've also drawn some separate window components. What I want to happen, is for the window to push back onto the building and cut out everything behind it. Is there a simple way to do it? Beneath the window, it has to cut away various objects and groups, not a simple surface. I know I can intersect it etc... but that will take a really long time.....

Where I want the window positioned and to look like at the front

How far back I want it to appear, without all the stuff poking through!

Hope that makes sense, any help greatly appreciated!

    • RE: Exporting as a 2D graphic

So, when I did test pdf renders of smaller sections on the model, they came out fine and I was able to use them. So, based on this I assumed it was perhaps one of the more complicated sections on the building it was struggling with. So, I took out a couple of these sections, and I've rendered it as an .eps, and it does seem to have worked (ish). I am still not thrilled with the results, as it is still running very very slowly in illustrator (the eps file is 30mb though), but for now, it does seem to have worked enough for me to get by with. Thanks everyone!

    • RE: Exporting as a 2D graphic

Yes it is all rather odd. I've deleted everything that you can't see on the model, and have pasted this into a new document. I am exporting this agin to see if it works. I've tried opening the pdf's in other programs and saving again, but they still don't work. I can't tell where the problem is coming from, knowing that I've done this kind of thing before. It's weird because I can open the pdf in acrobat and zoom in and the lines are perfect vector lines, exactly as I want, but doing anything else causes the program (Illustrator, Acrobat, Affinity) to crash. So I can't work out where the problem is coming from, as the crashing isn't program specific, rather file specific. Anyway, I'm hoping it's some glitch, and the new renderings will work (as I have to have this project completed within a couple of days and am running out of time and options! It doesn't help that each vector render takes like 6 hours to complete!) In the mean time, if anyone else has any advice, it would be gratefully received!

    • Exporting as a 2D graphic

I have a sketchup file of a fairly complicated building that I would like to export as a 2D graphic to work on in Adobe Illustrator. I need to get vector line quality results.
So, I have the image of the building, I wait for like 7 hours for it to export as a 2d graphic .pdf through SKP, and it all looks fine. However, on working in Illustrator, even though the file is only 10mb and Illustrator should easily be able to handle this, it keeps making Illustrator crash. I've spent two hours with adobe online support and I sent them the file, and it also crashed their computer, so they thought it would have been to do with the way the file was created.

Does anyone have any ideas where I've done something wrong? I have layout, and also vector rendered the image in their, and that also has the same results. I have done this kind of thing before from sketchup, and I'm feeling a bit frustrated it isn't working this time. I have even downloaded other vector rendering programs, but the file seems to crash in there too.

The only thing I can think of, is that the mode is using a section plane - and this might be causing it to act this way? Although I have done small tests of simple shapes with section planes and they have worked without a problem.

I am running on Mac OSX 10.10. 16GB RAM, and have Sketchup Pro

      Any idea's gratefully received!
