    • RE: SU pro6 importing DXF/DWG (accurately)

      Thank you Anssi!

Your answer actually helped me alot. I hadn't realized that converting the file to a dxf/dwg actually creates straight lines to make up the curves. If I just add a bunch of nodes into every curve and then export it (or create my vector curves using straight lines) then the results are actually really clean and quite accurate when importing them into SU. This is one of those little things that I wish i had known all along and will help me a thousand times in the future. BIG HELP. Thanks again.

    • SU pro6 importing DXF/DWG (accurately)

Good morning, I am having a problem importing dxf/dwg files that I have exported from CorelDraw13. Does anyone have any suggestions concerning how to do this more accurately, so that I can avoid having to redraw these shapes in SketchUp?

    • Shorter scene transitions?

Hola! Does anybody know of an easy way to shorten scene transitions to less than a second?

I'm trying to create a flashing lights animation using the layers and the flashing is too slow.

Thanks alot sepo. Used a simple pipe next to a brick wall and it looks awesome. took about 10 seconds to render.

I'm guessing that because I don't know what HDRI capability is, I probably don't have it. haha

If you have a minute solo.....What is it?

    • RE: Locomotive

Your Modeling looks really excellent for someone just learning. But, Taking pieces from other models and building on them would definitely still require quite a bit of learning. Almost anything you do in Sketch-up right now will be learning as you become more familiar with the interface.

Although, I admire your attitude. Good luck!

      Hi Radu,

You might try going to the file menu and looking in the 3D warehouse for locomotives. There are a ton of them in there, and it might help you for now to take some pieces and parts from other files to create your own.

    • Does anyone have a trick for chrome?

      Good Morning,

On several occasions I have needed a chrome effect like you might get from Studio Max. Currently I have to use a flat metal or chrome looking Jpeg fill. Then I'll photoshop the chrome for a more realistic look.

Is there a way of getting this effect without using 3DS or another 3-D program?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

      David,

The time has come for me to learn Layout. Excited about hybrid mode too. SketchUp has completely changed the way i work and expanded

my abilities as a designer. Can't wait to see what Layout can do. Thanks for helping.

yes because....ummm....my boss said so. lol

Because, I can import a good vector file into photoshop as a smart object and have everything come in already cut up into clean layers..
and time is an issue....ALWAYS! damn it.

    • RE: Can SketchUp pro export transparencies to eps?

      Thank you modelhead!

I guess I'm asking the wrong question. Actually I think I am using the wrong word when I say transparent. hhmmmm ok!

The coloring style needed for this particular job needs to be vector. That's the only reason I'm exporting as an eps.

If I'm exporting an image of a house with a big front window that is looking into a living room. I need to be able to see the living room through the window in order to color it. When I export as an eps the window that is transparent in SketchUP becomes Opaque in vector.

The only thing is.....it's not a house with a window, it's a large display with lots of pieces of semi-transparent glass with details behind them that I need to show.

So, I don't need a transparent eps I just want to export to a vector file, what I see in SketchUp. The only way I can see doing something close is to remove the faces on the pieces of glass and leave the outlines and then I draw transparent pieces over what shows thru...I think that will work but it's a bit time consuming.

    • Can SketchUp pro export transparencies to eps?

      Hola Gurus,

When I export as an eps I lose all my transparencies, so that when I import them into Corel or Illustrator I can't see through transparent objects anymore.

I don't actually need anything to be transparent, but I need to be able to color the objects as if they are....so I need to see what is behind "transparent stuff"...not sure if I'm being clear enough?

Is there a different way I can Export to fix that?

      I'll keep my fingers crossed.

ah ha! knowing that helps a lot! especially when using FFD to distort flat shapes smoothly and accurately. Great to know that, thanks!

It would be nice to have a 3D text tool that can place letters along a curved path...with adjustable spacing....and smoother line quality.
