    • Vray for SU... assistance needed!

Hey all, I'm fairly new with vray for su. I've been using it for around 3 months now, so I know some things but still need a bit of help to acquire the desired result. I'm trying to render a daytime, interior scene and seem to be getting a blotchy effect in the darker areas.

      The Render:

       1. Why is happening to the couch?
       2. Where can I get better couch models that aren't boxy. (is there some sort of plugin i can use to round edges?)
       3. The undesired blotchy effect happening in the darker area of the render. I believe I might have to bring up the samples... is this correct?

Screen Shot: (showing plane lights to light up scene)

As you can see, I have lighting throughout the scene and the scene is still fairly dark in some areas. If you haven't noticed I'm trying to get a realistic render, therefore I place the vray plane lights in areas where light would most likely be coming from.

Please let me know if you all have any ideas of what I can do to help improve my renders!! Thanks!

    • Vray for SU help, again!!!

      Hey all,

I am, once again, having some difficulties with VfSU. I am trying to render a scene (which I personally don't think is too extensive)and sketchup is pretty much taking a dump on me every time. I try to render the scene and then when the screen comes up to start showing the rendering process, sketchup just shuts off and promts a message saying that there isn't enough space in the Temp folder or something. Is there anyway that I can lighten the load for my comp through some settings? if this model is too intensive to render? I don't have too many materials and I have my settings fairly low, so there shouldn't be any reason for it to now work. Here are some screen shots to aid you. I am just trying to get some test renders of the front exterior of the house at around mid-day shadowing. TIA.

      UPdate

Ok everyone, so I have been working on the renders here at the office and I think that I pinpointed the problem. Under the sky material for the environment map, I accidently changed the Shadow Bias from 0 to 32, instead of changing the Shadow Subdivisions from 8 to 32. :X Oh well, its fixed now. I will upload pictures of the fixed renders when I finish them. Thanks for all the input!!!

...can you show a screenshot of the SU model?

Solo, thanks for the quick response. The file of the model is actually at work, so I will have to get you a screen shot sometime tomorrow, when I go in.

...Could be the material on the outside of the fireplace bouncing some of the rays to the wall....

Could the bounce be strong enough to reflect off that much light? is there a way that I would be able to add a decay?

Secondly, I will look if there is a misplaced light, but I'm pretty sure there isn't. I also, experimented rather quickly, removing the fireplace and the weird lighting wasn't present. At 1st I thought it might of been something with the way the fireplace was intersecting with the wall (they are both blocks and edges of the fireplace was coming through the wall to the other side) so I just intersected the model with the interior wall and just deleted the excess material. I had also checked the materials to make sure I didn't have any emissive properties and there was none.

      Does the wall have thickness?
If not try adding it. Might help.
Light leak through a single face wall is a fairly common problem in many 3d apps.

Pixero, thanks but we do have a thickness to the wall already, I believe it is around 10" or so.

Thanks for the input people it is highly appreciated. I will get some screen shots and possibly the model for you all to take a look at, hopefully sometime tomorrow.

    • Vray for SU

      Hi all,

I'm fairly new with VfSU and have been experiencing some technical difficulties. I've been putting together some renders for some clients and have been having trouble with lighting. If you look at the attached photo you will notice that I am getting some random illumination coming from behind the fireplace. There isn't any lights, nor is there any materials with emissive properties. I am thinking that the light behind there is being caused by the sun light but don't know why because there aren't any breaks in the walls or anything. Also, when I remove the fireplace entirely, there is no lighting problems what so ever.

Has anyone experienced something like this? or does anyone have an idea as to what I might to do cure this problem?

    • RE: VRay for SketchUp Help

Hey guys, thanks for all the input.

Rob, thanks for all the advice.

1)By default in VRay GI is set on. I changed some of the parameters for a softer shadow.I changed the size from 1 to 2, and the shadow subdiv from 20 to 32.
      2) For the sky dome, are you talking about HDRI? or are you just talking about placing a background image. How would I go about doing that and where could I acquire spherical images that would work?
      3) I didn't get to the window frames and other minor details at the point of rendering that image, but I will certainly get to that! 😄

Tom, so your saying that for displacement to work, no other geometry can be touching the object? Even if it is grouped/made component? How would I get around this? On this next image I believe my displacement worked. I elevated the counter 1/4" from the stone island as well as the BBQ, so then only thing that it is coming in contact with is the ground, but it appeared to work.

Secondly, just wanted to say that I got the water to work. Found the right combo of adjusted parameters to get that semi transparent, bluish tint and got the displacement to work also. (I think I just had the size to high to notice any change. It was at 300 and I brought it down to 5 and it was perfect. I put it to 300 only because I saw in a tutorial that the guy did that, so...)

Anyway, here is a picture of my progress, slowly but surely. I did want to ask a few more things, that is if you all don't mind.

      1. How to get a more realistic brushed metal material.
      2. What type of material I should do for the BBQ, if you don't think that the stone I used is good. (Keep in mind the new material has to match with the redish brick facade of the house.)

    • VRay for SketchUp Help

      Hi all,

I've been working with sketchup for a bit now, but still pretty new to VfSU. I've been working on this project and have come across some problems and love to see if any of you could assist with.

      http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c319/sav_phili/House - KL/test_render04.jpg

      1. I'm having problems with my displacement on my water.
      2. My water doesn't look like water.
      3. Anyone have any good roof shingle textures (close in color.)
      4. Any other suggestions or tips on making this model render better or realistic.

      Thanks!
