    • RE: SketchUp loads slow and temporarily goes black

First of all, which version of Vray SU are you using? This information helps us figure out whats going on. Secondly, sadly having 32GB of ram will do nothing for Sketchup (or Vray for Sketchup for that matter) as Sketchup is only a 32bit program which can use a maximum of ~3Gb of RAM. You should first try purging out all unused components, materials, etc to try to reduce the size of the model. Then if you still can't render normally, try rendering to a file (.exr) and then fix up the image in something like Photoshop or Gimp.

    • RE: Reflections on a wire fence

I think your best bet would be to use a reflective metallic material (ie Chrome) and then use your fence texture (black and white version) as a diffuse mask on top. That way only the area that the fence texture shows will be reflective.

    • RE: Vray Glass

Is this a glass material from the Chaos website?
Two things I notice (might be related to each other)
What kind of reflection do you have set? For glass it should be set for Fresel reflection.
And secondly is there any transparency to the material? Right now it looks more like a mirror than a window.

    • RE: V-ray invisible object reflection

Change you Face Style to Monochrome and then post an image of your sketchup model. As ThomThom alluded to it could be that you have the Translucent Grey Glass material applied to the back (purple) face of the window which when rendering causes all sorts of weird things to happen. The reason I'm suggesting that this might be the problem is because I see that you have other faces that should be reversed (aka all purple faces should be reversed).

And as a second note, default Sketchup Translucent Glass Grey wouldn't have any reflection properties as Sketchup doesn't do reflection. So in order to have reflection it would have to be turned into a "Vray Glass" material so to speak.

    • RE: Billboard reflection

To be honest I think its perfect the way it is. I think whats making it look perhaps odd is the fact that its a pure reflection whereas glass is not perfect and have waves and small lumps distorting the reflection a little. In the past I've used procedural maps to add distortion to the reflection.

The reason it seems strong is that the area behind the glass is dark. Look at any dark building from a similar angle from across a street and you'll see a pretty strong reflection as well.

    • RE: Need Help with Vismat

To map a texture like that to a sphere you'll need to use a plugin such as Whaat's UVTools.

    • RE: Shadows and sunlight

You could try placing a rectangular light just outside the window facing in and setting it to be invisible.

    • RE: Don't cast shadows?

Not an object itself but you can uncheck 'Cast Shadow' in the Vray Materials editor and any face painted with that material will not cast a shadow. Not sure if that help or not.

Unfortunately Devin I don't think the Wrapper solution would work in this case as the OP is using Version 1.48.93

Well I suppose you could set up a Batch macro in PS to do all the frames after you figure out the first one.

    • RE: How to Render Sharp Lines/image in vray sketchup?!

If its sharp lines you are looking for then why not just export a high-resolution image directly from sketchup.

As you had already mentioned you could render at a higher resolution but rendering will still give you a rasterized image which means it will never be truely sharp. But before deciding this you should determine what your final product need is. Will it be printed? if so how big? Usually if its for a presentation you want to keep it at a 250+ DPI. So take you final size multiply it by 250 or 300 in each direction and then you will get a near photo-quality image (so for a 10"x10" print set your render resolution to 2500 x 2500). But if you are looking for a screen image then you wouldnt go any higher than your maximum screen resolution.

    • RE: How can i make Sketchup Vray with Section Animation

For sure. Just about anything can be animated using Scenes. It would be a lot of work mind you, but it is definitely possible.

    • RE: Vray black squares and splotches

Based on the Task Manager image it seems like you too are hitting the memory limit of Sketchup. Most people think that by using a new high-powered computer with lots of memory will solve all their problems. Unfortunately this is not the case with Sketchup. The CPU will help for sure but because Sketchup is still a 32Bit program and Vray runs within the same program both are subject to a limit of ~4gb of memory usage. So as Valero states above I would try using the EXR method.

I'm having this issue that when I try to AutoInstall a picked plugin, it shows that it downloads asks for permission to install and nothing further. Anyone else having this issue? It used to work great for me.

You could try unchecking "Affect reflections" in the light setup.

    • RE: How to dominate "lighting"

I think the final render looks good, the added "touch" I think you're looking for is probably done through post-processing, like adding a soft glow to the light fixtures so they don't look like white sharp lines. I believe the noise you are getting is due to the fact that you are lighting mostly with emmisive materials, am I correct? One thing you could try would be to put an invisible rectangular light just below your ceiling to act as a ambient light and reduce your emmisive lights to something closer to what you had in your first final render. Then in post just add a diffused glow to the light areas and I think you will see a dramatic change.
