Shadows and sunlight
-
Hi Guys
I am quite new to this and have had some issues where my renders don't show any sunlight or shadows. It seems very flat. Any ideas where my settings are incorrect?
In Sketchup when I show click the shadows icon it shows that the unlight comes through the window and onto the carpet. When I render however there is nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Can you give a little more information? Which version of vray? Can you share your material settings for your window? Can you post some images of your sketchup model and rendering attempt? Help us help you

Sorry I did try add the render. Will post settings when I get home tonight.
Let's try that upload again

You are most likely not going to get shadows unless you have lights in your scene casting them. Are you using Sunlight for your Environment or just a color? Do you have any lights in the room? What kind are they. I always point people to this article which is how a real photog would setup a shoot. We should look at things the same way.

Carel,
What does the Sketchup image export look like with shadows on? The render looks very nice, I'm curious where the shadows are supposed to be. Still not sure which version of vray. Also, did you change any of the Environment settings or load any visopts in Vray?Andy

Hi Andy
I did another render last night and reset my vray settings to default. I made sure that my shadow and sun settings are on in sketchup. I tweaked my GI and camera settings and the result isn't bad I think. I removed the reflection on the floor to make it look more unfinished.
I did manage to get some sunlight through the window and onto the bed and carpet.
Only thing is there are some blotches on the wall where the guitar stands. Any idea on how to resolve this.
Thanks again for all the help guys.

You could try placing a rectangular light just outside the window facing in and setting it to be invisible.
