Media Players......? John Sayer, you'd be a good start!!!!

Hey guys, I don't post here anywhere as much as i'd like too.... wish i had more time!!
Which media player do you prefer? Windows Media Player, iTunes, Realplayer, there is even one called Winamp i believe....
I enjoy listening to music while i work, both ripped to the harddrive and online net radio and i would like to know what is most favoured. Obviously a good quality program that will play and rip music at a high quality...
John, i know you are in the listening industry, I'd appreciate your thoughts as well....
Where did that thread "what are you listening to now" go???
Cheers,

I have thoughts on this: the Media player used to be good, about version 9, I think, then I had a involuntary upgrade, lost all my radio selections unless I elected to pay...and did I mention that many Media player radio statiions set-off my spyware detector? So I hooked up the itunes, I found plenty of internet radio stations and not nearly as many seemed to be loaded with spyware.
Real Player seems to be loaded with malware stuff too. imho.. know nothing about winamp.. -
I exclusively use winamp. it is by far the best media player I have ever used. It takes the best from all media players and combines them into one glorious program. you can use it with your ipod (no itunes required at all!), it can play realmedia files, and windows media files.
it also has the best selection of plugins and visualizations!the best part is, the program is free for basic, and $20 USD for pro. highly reccomended.

Thanks for your info guys, will give Winamp a larrup!!!

I am an Itunes user. I like its simplicity and looks. Also using an ipod it obviously works seamlessly for syncing etc.
I can only compare to Media Player though. I have not looked at Winamp for maybe 7 years or so.

I use Winamp. I found out that both Media Player and iTunes want to tell me what I should listen to instead of me choosing (or was I too lazy to find out and turn off all those "automated" functions?).
Winamp goes down to my system tray when I minimize it, does not need space anywhere, can be combined with my Firefox browser (though others, too), you can just drag any music or radio station in there with your mouse etc...
Neatly skinnable, too, and even if open, can be faded away so you can work while it's open.

I used Foobar for quite a while, but now I tend to just use windows media player.

Winamp for my music and VLC media player for video; say goodbye to codec problems
-
Believe it or not I use Windows media player
Why - firstly because I love the visual Bars and Waves - Ocean mist, because it's one of the most accurate real time analysers around. ( I realise it wouldn't mean anything to anyone else) Also because I have all my libraries direct at hand, no need to load play lists. The only codec it won't play is realplayer .ram and apple .mov files. I have Realplayer Alternative installed and I try to avoid .mov files.
What really annoys me is Quicktime - whenever I hit a page with quicktime it rewrites all my file preferences without my permission making it the no 1 player!! - it also pops up regularly asking me if I want to download I-Tunes. It's a pain in the A!!
cheers
john
