I needed that, I cleaned up yesterday and was noticing how lite my tree collection looked. -
RE: Dimension Component as a Text entity
Dylan,
You are so right, much easier and better. Thanks for the suggestion. -
RE: Upgrade Video Card Reccommendations
I have good ability to navigate my model if I turn off some of the extraneous programs, like spyware protection... and outlook and whatever else isn't necessary. At that point I can have my PF usage down around 600-700 with Su and acad running. I do know the internet protection is a processor hog. I was thinking the lag between the mouse movement and the model catching up was a VC issue. I have a notebook that remains snappy with the same systems running, that was had me thinking the card needed some work.

Upgrade Video Card Reccommendations
I am running a Pent4 with 2G ram, and a 3.o processor. My VC is a GeForce 7300 LE. From what I can tell this is a gamers card w/ open GL.
Performance gets painful when pushing (zoom and rotate) bigger files around (some are just 7mg, and others are up to 40mg,) especially when there are many large components on in the model. I think i want to up my VC, and consider SU the beneficiary to this upgrade. I know very little about the VCs available and would like to know what would be a reasonably priced (under $200) recommendation to get better performance? Thanks -
RE: Dimension Component as a Text entity
Gai, thanks for the direction. I figured it out and the solution is to turn off (uncheck) the Hide When Foreshortend and Hide When too Small boxes. The slider bars didn't help any that I could tell.
I found a real cool trick for placing text in any view that doesn't float by combining the dimension text component with the \n dimension text edit provided by Joe Wood a couple weeks ago. When the component is exploded and you edit any value of the text, and you can get the equivalent of paragraph text by using the \n command. Thanks Joe and Gai. -
RE: Dimension Component as a Text entity
Well gai, I thought you were on to something, but the OP's file has the same out of the box setiings as mine. I am going to investigate the possibility of imperial (mine) vs. Metric (OP) settings. Wish me luck

Dimension Component as a Text entity
Sometime back there was a post and a sketchy of a dimension edited to be a note that was then made into a component and when that component was placed, it was to be exploded, then the text of the dimension could be edited; remember?
I am trying to do this and I seem to have a setting wrong and I don't know which one. I set it up with a 1" dimension and edited the text using different sizes of text, and even made a component of the OP's note dimension. When I place it in my drawing I have a very limited zoom view field of this component before it disappears. I doesn't drop behind the plane and it when highlighted it only highlights the component boundary, but sometimes I dont get any highlights at all. I have the properties set to Glue to any and I have tried different fonts. This happens to both my created components and the OP's component in my drawing. Neither my created component nor the original samples disappear in the OP's file though.Anyone have an idea what is wrong in my setup to cause this. Thanks

RE: Molding Profiles
Ron,
U-da-man! Really...
I used to think I had the best moulding profile collection.....ever....
I have never seen such an EXTENSIVE collection as this......and To even think someone elses moulding profiles would be OK to use....Usually the corners are round, the curves are terrible, you know 6 segment circles.....but this has GREAT CURVES and CRISP CORNERS......curves as nice as the Poufs
I saw posted earlier.......Seriously nice work.. and THANK YOU. -
RE: Roof.rb v1
Tig, just ran a couple gable roofs with the new spin. It worked with the default setup, with pitch entered, I played with the eaves a bit, think she is looking good..
I want to congratulate you...humbly...this is like a grand slam. I am really looking forward to putting this roof tool through it's paces. Thanks -
RE: Roof.rb v1
Ok, I fired up my laptop which has XP 2002 SP2 and a ATI Mobility Radeon X600 G.C. that has a version of 5 & 6 on it but no rubies to speak of:examples.rb,RPS_Ray Trace.Rb, Utilities.rb,parametric.rb,oniondome.rb,bezier.rb,grid.rb,windows.rb,shapes.rb, rectangle .rb, and the roof.rb
There are very few inhibitors here, and I could possibly uninstall all but the defaults if you think they may be in the way.
I had the same response as the previous attempt, which is no group, stuff still highlited etc. on both versions.

RE: Roof.rb v1
wish I had three monitors for this:
New untitled.There is a template here
Here is the first step:Ruby console on:Rectangle push/pull into cube:
console text:
Added: 1 :: #Sketchup::Face:0x4415260
Cleared: #Sketchup::Selection:0x4438480
Added: 1 :: #Sketchup::Face:0x44148e8
Cleared: #Sketchup::Selection:0x4438480
Select edge and plane:
BulkChange: 1

BulkChange: 2
2
Plugins>Roof>got the message I attached earlier. Going to start over.new untitled, and all the way to the flyout at gable selection was the same except this time I got the Gable roof setting menu.
Accept all defaults>OK
The box plane & line is still hi-lited and absolutely nothing happened, no flash or resemblence of a roof.
Here is the last sequence of commands ruby console text:
Error: #<NoMethodError: undefined methodto_f' for ["1", "2"]:Array> (eval):1385:indialog_gable'
(eval):1494:ingable' (eval):2722 (eval):2722:incall'I am going to load another start template, if it works any better I'll let you know.

RE: Roof.rb v1
Dylan,
There is definatly some technique to it, but when there is a roof drawn it is a pretty thing! I think there is alot of computing power going into this thing. Try a gable, Use the ^ (carat) or whatever it is,enter a # rekey all the menu settings, should give a roof. -
RE: Roof.rb v1
that is the perfect question...
the first run after the initial boot, I built a rectangular cube, and ran the roof tool on gable after selecting one edge and the top plane. I saw nothing happen.I did it again exactly as you described for a gable: nothing happened.
To get a roof model the first attempt, this is what I tried: I went thru the menu and toggled each setting, basically rekeyed everything there and entered 12:12 for a pitch. I got nothing; then I noticed the ^ wasn't included in the pitch indicator, so I set ^12 , and got a low pitch roof.
here is the ruby console script:

Cleared: #Sketchup::Selection:0x4e58480
Added: 1 :: #Sketchup::Face:0x4e3a0c0
