RE: Would a bunch of 2.5d bushes of this ilk...
tom the more I think about it these are perfect we can scale , stretch or squish them into the shapes needed, I think with a little work (or fun) you could create a whole collection of shrubs for your 2.5 collection and make a little money. The foliage is the biggest thing that needs variety, color and texture, the size and shape thing can be handeled after the fact by the modeler. attached a sketch of shapes anyway.
PS what is her name and which 2.5 tree group is she in, I might have to buy the other one.

RE: Would a bunch of 2.5d bushes of this ilk...
Absolutely love them! a variety of colors and about 6 shapes (low spreading ground cover, medium ground cover, round shrub, upright shrub, hedge, collumnar) and you could landscape everything with great accuracy and a lot of fun! I can sketch you up some shapes if you would like, or attach some photos.

RE: Do SketchUp
Really cool trees... once you edge them out and hide the edges, these are going to give your trees a great look, they might be too nice and distract from you building, I don't have a problem with that because I am a landscape guy, but if you are a building guy this might be a little bit of a problem, just have to see when it all gets done. Great work.

RE: Here's a tree like my neighbor's today...
Tom - these along with the first set that I bought off the web site along with the second set should be perfect for all of my tree needs... now I just need some good palms to mix in style wise. Thanks for all of your great work. Bob

RE: Airwolf
I loved that show... isn't it fun to build something you love. Nice model especially if you haven't been using SU that long. Have fun

Ecuadorian - thanks for the links I will try these tips and let you know how it works.
thanks for the help I think I can find a way to resolve the issue, real life saver.Bob

Help with Curved Surfaces and Materials Applied to converted
I have imported a 3ds architectural model with numerous curved surfaces. I then ran the remove unused edges ruby to remove the diagonal lines that broke all the faces in half (the orange wall in the foreground has been adjusted, the background walls and surfaces still show the extra linework)). I am now left with a curving wall made of a bunch of vertical "panels". the problem is when I use a texture like stone, the materials do not "line up" they repeat, almost like they start over again and again, I am using seemless textures from SU and other sources that I have used in the past, they also act like independent faces, I cannot paint the entire wall I have to paint each face. I am wondering if there is a way or a ruby script to merge the panels into a single wall unit, or if there is a way to get the materials to line up and stop the "repeating" look. I have attached a couple of images of what I am talking about. In the second image the low wall on the right is one that I made in Sketchup and it handels the materials fine, the building wall on the left shows the repeating issue I am having.
Thanks

RE: Tank Museum UPDATE - new renders
your passion for tanks truely shows in these models, as does your tremendous skill and dedication... keep up the incredible work.

RE: Where do I start with rendering software
Earthmover thank you for the great breakdown of programs, from the point of view of a landscape designer. very helpful and informative. I have tried the demo of Pirensi and really liked it but never had an oportunity to try it in a true deadline show it to a client type setting, and from what I have seen of your work with vue it seems like the output is ideal for what I would be doing.
Richand and Ecuadorian thank you for the feedback I will let you know which way i go when I start posting my rendered images, I will still do a lot of photoshop/painter digital painting (see attached) but I will work toward new options of rendering software.

RE: Where do I start with rendering software
Mateo - Thanks I have no problem with post processing I understand that it is a necessary function of the rendering process I do a lot with Photoshop now with digital painting of my plan view stuff, and I don't mind dealing with the "Artist touch" I just don't want to head too far down the road of a software package only to find out that it is the wrong choice for my type of work. I appreciate the suggestions and now I need to get to learning!

RE: Where do I start with rendering software
I looked into vue and it looks like a great solution for photo-real and animation how about piranesi, artlantis, and other software for "artistic styles" any opinions or options that may fit both Photo-real and stylized work?
thank you for the complents on the posted work, these are ony a few of the ways I have used SketchUp, I love the program but now need to find new ways to expand my work into areas that potential clients will request, in the economic times it seems like a great time to learn new things.

RE: SU and LandFX
Land FX works only out of AutoCAD and now Bricscad. The problem with the modeling is the trees they use look like some kind of umbrellas rather than some of the great trees that are now availble from tom or tree generator. in concept is is a really great tool if you are doing concept through construction docs, but for modelling native SU is better. It really depends on what you are doing.

RE: Ecuadorian's humble attempts at using SU
I think all of the attemps have merit I love the first post, I do a lot of signage and landscape construction imagery and this is as clean and clear as anything I have ever needed to present to a client. All your work has something that shows your creativity and your thirst to learn and perfect SU

Where do I start with rendering software
I have been an avid user of SketchUp since version 3. I have always used it either for native output and dynamic real time design, or to setup a "wire" frame for hand and digital renderings (scan and photoshop). I am seeing so much good to great work comming out of the users of various rendering engines I am looking to start trying my hand at rendering. I do landscape design and planning so I need a rendering solution that I can use with plants and softscape materials, any ideas, thoughts, comments, or issues that any of you have faced would be appreciated, also if you had to start over from scratch which software direction would you go. I have posted a few images so you can see what I do now. Thanks Bob

RE: Digital watercolour...
I love the bus in the foreground, it definitely tells you you are looking at a school. and it punches up the brightness and excitement.

RE: A House for the Coast of Nova Scotia...
As everyone else has pointed out, the simple white model with the hints of ocean and sky are perfect to share the simplicity and elegance of the project. I love it when people learn to harness the power of SketchUp for there presentations rather than always going for an over developed photoreal image... simply beautiful.

Great Work!

RE: A night at the cabin
tinanne - wonderful work as always ... I love the first image it really shows the project and the architecture well. I have a bit of a problem with the second image, I know how much you love to break boarders and I think it is effective in both images but in the second image my eye keeps getting hung up on the "mountain" that you cabin is sitting on, it feels a little too dominant. Just being a little bit picky and as always a little bit in awe.
