Microsoft just announced two new Tablets running on windows 8. One running on Windows RT (mobile version of windows8)and one running on the full windows 8 pro. The last one has a i5 processor. I think this last one will be the first tablet capable of running SU and other 3d software.

    • Best export format?

      Hi everybody,

I'm having some trouble with a model I made. I always do the modeling in SU and then go to C4D for compositing and rendering. I usually export in 3ds format because I like the option to export by material. I'm rendering a close-up of a model and I noticed that the geometry is not clean. especially when using round corners. When rendering the triangulation is showing in the texture. I think it could be solved by adjusting the phong angle. I was wondering what the best format is for exporting models from SU. Is there a way to convert triangles to Ngons?

    • Google's reason for selling Sketchup

      Hi Everybody,

Don't know If this is mentioned here already, but I just read a article about google announcing better 3D models in Google Maps. Seems they are using planes now that take pictures in a 45 degree angle. The pics are then made into a mesh.

    • RE: :Pool:

Nice model and render as ussual. Maybe cutback on the bloom a bit.

I do have the mention one thing. What's the deal with the weird looking chic in the pool. If you use cut-out girls you can at least choose a nicer one. πŸ˜†

Oh and I also think she might be a bit to big in relation to the deck chair and mister macho in the background.

Then the Diabolo will be a toy also not known to children nowadays. It's like yo-yo-ing but with sticks. Might be a good game to port to the Nintendo Wii πŸ˜„

    • RE: UEFA-EURO 2012

      Hi Guys,

We're preparing as we speak. The Beamer and screen are already ordered and we're getting ready for the first match. Netherlands-Denmark. It's the first group match and one we have to win to keep a chance at a nice group result. We're in a poule with Germany, Portugal and Denmark.

@Solo: I've always had a good opinion about you but after I heard you say you are supporting Germany thats all gone πŸ˜„

The match between Netherlands and Germany will be a very stressfull match for me and a lot of dutch people with me. There's still a lot of hostility because of WOII. Seems a bit silly because most of us were not born yet but I think we get imprinted in our youth that germany is bad and germans are bad.

I hope we will survive the poule. If we do then I think we have a good chance to win this thing.

    • Render this competition?

      Hi Guys,

I was wondering what happend to the occasional Render this Competitions that were held in the past? I've noticed that the model this competition has grown and has a steady group of participants. As modeling isn't my strong point I was wondering if there are any of you who want to participate in a new render this competition?

I might be able to get SketchNL to loan us one of his great models for the competition.http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=45139

Let me know what you guys think. maybe we can breathe new life into the render this competition πŸ˜„

      Hi Jason,

Love the soft bloom on the images. Nice render and model.
But what is the woman in bikini doing on one of the renders? Don't get me wrong. I think all good renders need at least one good bikini model. But haven't seen many people around here that put this in practice πŸ˜„ .

    • RE: Cinebox: CryEngine for movie making and (I hope) archviz

I've donwloaded the engine and editing studio and gave it a first try. After seeing a teaser on the web where they show the environment populating procedure I got really excited. That said I don't think It's a good option for interactive walktroughs at this moment. The pricing will be high and the specs needed for a smooth walktrough are to high. Not al customers will have a pc with high enough specs.

I've tried to export a SU model I made of the Ponce House by Mathias Klotz but the export didn't succeed. I think the model was to complex for Playup tools to handle.
Any tips or hints on the export workflow between SU and CryEngine 3.

I've read a lot of good reviews of the HTC One X. Their new Flagship. Quad core processor and a new camera that does a very good job when there isn't much light.

Nice render Fred. Love the black and white theme. Only the Chandelier is not high poly enough. You can see the segments. Other than that I would say: keep up the good work. πŸ˜„

    • RE: We need another World War!

I'm afraid your brother-in-law is right. There are just not enough resources on this planet to cope with the growth in the world. Just imagine what would happen when all chinese earn enough to buy a car or to go on holiday every year. Paris would be flooded with chinese and our ozone layer will be gone in a few years.
It seems the world needs to bring back the balance once in e few hundred years. Look at the history, Tsunami, WO I &II, black plague, holy crusades.
There's just nog enough for all of us I think.

@stefanq: thanks for the tip on nomers composition tutorial. I've learned a few things. I've noticed that there are a lot of tutorials for SU and other 3d modeling software that cover the basics like basic modeling, texturing light setup and rendering, but not a lot of good tutorials for more advanced things like compositing, material creation(accurate)and environment modeling.

    • RE: Teatime (classic white interior)

Thanx for the nice comments. I should set something straight. Room was made with SU (Window + panneling etc) the chair model is from Arvhive3d. I too want to know how to model a chair like that in SU, but at the moment it's not within my range of modeling skills πŸ˜„ . I think it can be done in SU but better in another modeling app like C4D, MAX or Maya. Maybe some ZBrush for the details.

      Hi Everybody,

I have put the Paino Room scene I was working on on hold and I decided to use the room for a new scene. Love some feedback on the model and render. Maybe some pointers on camera setup.
Model made in SU and rendered with vray.
