Totaly excited about this. I can't wait to get strated. There is a great tutorial on youtube about the complete workflow from Sketchup to unity to oculus rift VR. Very impressive. I hope the real workflow isn't too complex to learn...

Make component unique accross all scenes.
I need something to be able to select a component in scene 1 and have it selct all instances of that component in all scenes so that I can make all instances unique.
Right now I have to go through all scenes and make each instance unique which is very time consuming.Any ideas would be graet!

Components or groups in a mesh that "stick"
Hi Guys, Its been a while and I've got a good one!
I need to be able to animate part of a mesh using SU animate I can animate only groups or components along paths. My problem is that I need to have part of a mesh "stick" to that component so that when it gets animated down a path it drags the conecting edges of the mesh with it.
Any ideas?
thanks in advance

RE: [Plugin] Shape Bender Beta
Ok Thanks I'll try that. I normaly would instal it directly from the warehouse but for some reason the plugin doesn't download I just get stuck in a "Please wait" infinity loop...

RE: [Plugin] Shape Bender Beta
Hi,
Thanks for this great plugin.
it worked well on 2013 pro running windows 8.
I've since moved onto 2014 pro and for some strange reason I can't seem to get the plugin to even load.I've dopwnloaded the newest .rbz file and placed in the plugin folder for 2014. yes I know about the location change to user/roaming....
So I fire up 2014 pro and nothing, nowhere to be found, no error message.
I sure it's something really stupid and simple I've missed but I am at my wits end. any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Using plugins in SU2014
Yes same thing as with firefox. I even set IE to default browser. no difference.

RE: Using plugins in SU2014
Thanks BTW for your help.
I'm having a problem with Brighter 3D plugin which worked very well in 2013. I've posted on the website already but I was hoping someone here might have an idea.
The problem arises when I try to use the instalation file from the website. It won't recognise the new location of the plugin folder. If i drop the plugin from my other 2013 instalation into the new 2014 plugin folder ...nothing...
Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks

RE: Using plugins in SU2014
yes I can download files from the website through firefox no problem.
It's really quite strange. -
RE: Using plugins in SU2014
Ok found the sketchucation and that works also found the folders... google...
still the same problem with the extension warehouse. Nothing will load it just goes into an infinity please wait loop!

RE: Using plugins in SU2014
First of all, many thanks for the efforts of all the plugin coders and others who have made this whole SU and LO even better than they already were.
For complainers here: Fork out a fortune for a software that has everything you need or show some thankfullness for this inexpensive and excellent software kept alive and moved forward by thausands of unpaid hours of work from all the plugin developers.
I think Trimble is going in the right direction with this, although I am no expert here.I am having problems with 2014 in particular:
The extension warehouse just freezes up when I try to download anything. the "Please wait" with rotating icon just goes and goes and goes but nothing further ever happens.
Also I'd love to install the Sketchucation Plugin but can't find it anywhere in the extension warehouse.
I can't find any of the following files on my windows 8 computer
C:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\SketchUp\Plugins
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\SketchUp\Plugins
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Aparently not a solid form?
Thank you all very much for all your help! I've manged to create a file that I can export and use and am now with a very much altered design in the prototyping stage.
This thread can be closed now. -
RE: Aparently not a solid form?
I keep getting an error from the IGS viewer and it freezes up but only when I try to open this one file. If I make a simple shape and export it to the viewer it works fine (thanks for that tip ).
Here is a copy of my .skp file which doesn't seem to want to export properly. I'm at my wits end
The model had been moved back to the planar center several days ago when I was made aware of the scaling mistake I had made.
Any help would be very appreciated.I suspect something has gone wrong with the surface of the main calliper piece as is exhibits strange characteristics when I try to alter it in any way.
I tried making engraved (extruded) lines on the surface but this just caused a whole mess of errors that when auto-corrected always resulted in the top surface being deleted and the ends of the tiny engraved "ditches" to be deleted as well. Very strange. The simple pattern I've now successfully placed on the surface was very tedious. The lines kept drawing not directly on the surface so that I had to draw almost all of them individually. Copying sections of them produced thousands of tiny mistakes in the solid inspector.
Thanks for any help.

RE: Aparently not a solid form?
rescaling seems to have no effect on the resulting exported .igs file size. I've gone down by a factor of 1000 now and no difference.

RE: Aparently not a solid form?
I can export it through a plug in I got here off the forum iges_export.rb
I downloaded a trial version of Autodesk Maya 2014 but I can't see a damn thing when I open the file and the program is well... massive ,new and overwhelming quite frankly.
The iges_export seemed to export without any errors and the file size would indicate that there is a substantial file there (9mb) too big for here. I could scale down and re-export it and see how small I can get the file... -
RE: Aparently not a solid form?
OK found it. although only by chance. It seemed to be a microscopic tear in the sketch time continuum. Something on the surface that was there but at the same time not there. Possibly a previously unknown spontaneous transitioning sketch-quantum particle.
-
RE: Aparently not a solid form?
Nope, been there, done that, skipped on the t-shirt though.
I've checked everything from every possible angle, yes just a little more to the left and so on and so on...
Truly inexplicable from my limited knowledge of this program. Thanks for the constructive advice. I think I'll wait for something truly clever though.
-
RE: Aparently not a solid form?
Oh...
Now I've added some new features and my exporter says "model contains non-solid elements"
but now I'm completely at a los as to why.
there are no imbedded objects or components.
and solid inspector can't find anything. -
RE: Aparently not a solid form?
Thanks again!
I've exported to .igs file but I don't have a program to test the results.
Could one of you have a look at it? -
RE: Aparently not a solid form?
Oh very clever indeed...
I didn't know that original components mirrored their copies.
very helpful.
I guess the obvious solution to avoiding that would be to explode the copy and re-component it under a different name?I'm sure I'm doing a lot of things the long way round but these little tips are very helpful.
