Well in case it can help someone else out, I got it to work by exporting to a preferences.dat file then importing that file. Somehow that made it work so go figure...it's just nice to have my shortcuts back.

RE: Keyboard shortcut problem
Nope this is a laptop so it's not a keyboard thing. It's really weird honestly, I have v.7 installed on my desktop and it works flawlessly so I'm guessing it's a Vista thing. I'm also having that issue where if I open the program directly it doesn't respond but if I open a file it works (known issue but still could be related).
Thanks for the input,

Keyboard shortcut problem
Ok, hopefully someone can help me this is driving me nuts. I installed Sketchup 7 on my new work laptop (hp 17" w/vista) and it opens up and works fine, but my keyboard shortcuts don't work. I've checked the shortcuts menu and they are set correctly but sketchup just doesn't respond to any of them. Escape only works when I have the selection tool selected, otherwise it doesn't even escape correctly...any ideas?
Thanks

RE: One Component - Two models - One Style - different Look WTF?
To me it doesn't look like a style problem, it looks like there is a plane covering all the openings like a big ceiling plane that isn't supposed to be there. Did you draw a big outline around the ceiling areas possibly creating a plane that you didn't mean to?

RE: Base Camp 2008 !!!!!
Well congrats, I was really hoping I'd get an invite but I got the rejection letter yesterday as well . Oh well, there's always the chance that I'll be chosen in the second round after the chosen few that can't go are weeded out.

I was one of the lucky ones ! I was invited & they give you until May 6 to respond.

RE: Base Camp 2008 !!!!!
I've been wondering the same thing, been checking periodically all day.

RE: Data center
Wow, looks great! The detail is incredible, did you model all the mechanical equipment or were you lucky enough to have models from the manufacturer? Do you have any shots of the interior?

RE: Some scenes of the ball park...
Those look great Tom, quite a complex there. I like the layout of the ball fields. Where'd you get those trees? And what tutorial are you referring to?
Keep up the great work!

RE: Open GL Problem
do you know what video card you have, or do you have an integrated card? From looking at the Acer website, it looks like you have an integrated video card. Have you looked over this list?

It has the driver links for your laptop (page 3).
Not sure what else to try. -
RE: SpaceNavigator?
I just recently got one of those for Christmas. I'm starting to get the hang of it, it takes a little while having not used a device like this before. What I mostly see this coming in handy for is showing clients a model in SketchUp since it allows you to rotate and fly around the model without the jerky nature of the mouse.

RE: IMPORTING FROM AUTOCAD
That's a great time saver Anssi, thanks for the tip. I can't believe that hasn't occurred to me before. I'd heard of the drcauto software before but haven't ever ponied up for it. It would be nice to have the functions back that I was so used to, I'll have to pitch this idea to my boss.

RE: IMPORTING FROM AUTOCAD
Unfortunately CRC, that 'flatten' command isn't available in the LT versions of AutoCad as well as any other lisp command. I truly wish it was as I used it a lot at my last job and really miss it now using LT. I think the flatten ruby is going to be the best bet, unless someone knows another way to do it in SU or AutoCad.
Good point about Autocad 2008 support in SketchUp, I thought that I had read that one of the recent updates fixed that issue but last time I tried it still wouldn't import. -
RE: IMPORTING FROM AUTOCAD
There is a flatten ruby by Todd Burch on Smustard for $10.00

RE: Landscape study with Sandbox tools
Well I don't have anything to offer on the rendering front, but I just wanted to comment on your model. I think the 3-dimensionality of the design is very clear, I like what you're doing. I enjoy doing landscapes in SU, although it took awhile to figure out the best methods for doing retaining walls. It looks like you have it figured out, the retaining walls look great. Keep up the good work, hope to see more soon.

RE: IMPORTING FROM AUTOCAD
Tinanne is correct, you would need to export from ADT only, 2008LT should work just from the original file. If you are having problems with line work importing with lines floating up in the air, that is going to be an issue with the cad linework having been drawn in 3D. Unfortunately the LT version of AutoCad doesn't officially support 3D drawing so it can be hard to know when line work isn't on the ground plane. Since LT doesn't support LISP functions available that would flatten the linework for you before importing to SU, the easiest way I can think of to get everything down to the ground plane would be to switch to parallel projection in SU (camera menu) and look at the model from a side view. Then grab everything and manually move them in line with the ground plane (using shift to keep from pulling them out of alignment).
For aligning with the axis, make sure your AutoCad drawing is located at the 0,0 axis before you import into SU. If that still doesn't work for some reason, you can always move it over after you import it.
And btw, you are correct about the export to cad function in SU, it is only available in the Pro version.
Hopefully this helps you,

RE: SU on Notebook
I've done a good bit of SketchUp work on an older Dell laptop. It's got a ATI 9600 Mobility card and it works pretty well, so I would think that anything current would run SU very well. I would definately agree with Gjenio though, the video card is a must if you are working with even mildly complex models. That, and of coarse, a mouse...trying to control SU with the touch pad is endlessly frustrating.

RE: Installed new graphics card - display problem
Thanks Daniel, I'll look at my settings when I get home and compare. We'll see if this helps.

RE: My Renderings in KT2008 Echo
Those look great Dave. I was playing around with the new version last night as well. It's really a credit to the KT team that I was able to go in and do some pretty decent renderings without much knowledge of the program or previous experience with it.

RE: Installed new graphics card - display problem
Thanks for the update PRSS, I'll have to try those settings and see if it helps with my problems as well. Ultimately though, I'm hoping Nvidia will come through with a fix in their next driver release.
