Great video, especially for SU. I guess you can't vary the speed, as discussed. Some stalling, swooping, and lurching would add drama. Cool intro. Now what are we going to dare him to do?

Color by layer
I have pushed the color by layer button but nothing happens, even though colors are displayed in the layer list. Does this button do anything?

RE: Simple interior lighting
Kerkythea.
Does anyone know of how you put this on the Mac? I went to download but the instructions... I don't know what they're talking about. You need to run in some special mode, "X" this and "X" that.

RE: Outdoor Living Spaces
Ten months? Very impressive. It even looks like you have a style going. I am sure it definitely does the job for your clients.
I am not in landscape design. I do houses, but I'd better get off my butt with people like you around.

RE: Silvershadows eye candy 2 : BLACK HAWK
Happy Birthday Silver!
The difference of these two eye candy efforts has occurred to me. I think the dock scene was all from one source, right? You were modeling based on a 2d image, designing 3d that will recreate the image, or your version of it. Amazing! The design machinations are beyond me to describe.
In the Blackhawk, you are faithfully and accurately detailing an actual object based on different references, but still hard to understand how you can fill in the 3d information. Showing a strong grasp of reality beyond the sheer modeling prowess. Then there's the renderings.
Sorry, it's hard not to sound obsequious on this. Thanks for the offerings.

RE: Hypershot Renders
That's a pretty good architectural render. Better than the ones at the website, given the time. You got more light out of it. So all the shadows in HS are soft? Does it display sun shading?

RE: Barcelona Pavilion (redux)
Kwis,
If you please. What's real time rendering? I have been doing searches but find it in context, but not described. How does it affect SU?
Adam
Great render, very peaceful with that nice light. How is the tile (paving/cladding) done, it all looks like it fits. Drawn or textures?Peter

RE: Large Hadron Collider
I hear the black holes, if created, will not last long. Now I can sleep better.
Problem with black holes, you wouldn't know what hit you. No chance to say "cool, a black hole", just "swish" it's lights out.

RE: Sailing (Bireme or Trireme)
There's always more to this forum than just modeling. Thanks guy. Lens glare? What kind of lens did they use back then?
And that's a really hot picture. Especially for a couple hours!
Oh and if you like this sort of stuff, try out some Polynesian craft. The painter Herb Kane has done extensive research and illustration to draw from. Your picture brings his work to mind.

RE: SimUrban
I'm against the move for city commissions to require proprietary software for submittals, especially if it requires a "service" or the SW is not free. I understand this for larger cities, state school programs etc., but being "different" (Mac-user), it goes against my sense of fair play and free market. Anyway, some of these smaller cities get the idea to require AutoCAD files etc. and they are not really able to utilize the files.
On the other hand, the more they require, the more work for us, hopefully billable.

RE: Tutorials related to houses
OH, I thought that was only the overall object profile!
Thanks.
I worry for nothing. -
RE: Tutorials related to houses
Ok, so build the two story shell before you do the interior walls and floors--Instead of building platform style. Does it matter in grouping these different parts that you have the bold line intersections at (interior views) floor and ceiling (or to the molding when you get that far)?
I suppose it never shows in rendering, but if you like a SU view, it would detract?
Thanks for the links. I checked out Kris's tutorials. Very good. He seemed to stop before the second story. So I was laying floor slab on top of the walls and then dealing with lines appearing on exterior walls, disappearing ceilings, interior wall lines crawling up with extruded walls etc.
Attached is a simple massing "study" I've done for a two story addition to a humble abode. The owner wants more height in rooms and an attic space. See the building grow as you flip thru the pdf pages. I hope he decides not to go too high! In this case I did just do the outside shell in fact it is only one surface. Just thought the unintended page-flip animation was interesting.

RE: Dark interior rendering
Thank you ridix. It didn't occur to me the dark slider would do this.

RE: Tedium but worthwhile tedium?
This is looking interesting.
that first image made me think. how about architect's and engineering scales that can be manipulated and used in SU! And then we can do some calcs on working models of slide rules etc.

RE: Dark interior rendering
that's pretty good. I might be able to work on that vein for a while.
Here's what I came up with before seeing your post. I wanted to see light reflecting on the flare at the bottom of the shaft. I made LEM of the shaft sides. So in away this looks like a shaft that is so bright you can see no detail. Except in Podium the amount of light that comes out of that and reflects on other surfaces is still much lower than would be expected from such a glare. I turned down the other lights and at least you can see some little light bouncing out of the shaft. In a way all this is cheating. I want the program to tell ME how light will bounce about--and so far I don't believe it, and the sun is way too dim.
I think Omni are a different quality of light and the source is hidden in the rendering.
By the way I just took out the glass altogether and still the same results as you have at first.
But I'm wondering if I am barking up the wrong tree with Podium.
BTW, Does anyone have very white drywall (textured) texture? Where do you get these things?
thanks for the reply.

RE: Lecture Hall...
Tom,
I think the first one gets the idea across schematically. I would be interested in the new floor construction (is there?) and how that will intersect with aisle. Something that would have to be shown from out-of-room side view. It would help explain how the theater is being renovated and how the tables and sitting areas work. That's just me.

RE: My first Doric temple.
Great. Be careful about getting sucked into this architecture thing.
Like the temple name and Bryce casually walking out.

RE: Tedium but worthwhile tedium?
Dave,
If you have too much time on your hands, maybe we can work out a deal.
It looks perfect.

RE: Dark interior rendering
Now I cannot get it to show the sunlight in Podium at all. So far the renderings are still a bit dismal. Is there another rendering program I should look into if I want to simulate the way sunlight (even diffuse gray daylight as in previous photos) lights a room?

Why do you think that the "Jay Walking" segments on Leno are so funny?
Well, I find it surprising people don't know some things that seem quite common. It is just a surprise and that surprise is part of comedy. Then Jay leads them along and his expressions are funny. Sorry... I'm not ridiculing the people or putting them in a class etc. I'm sure he picks out the "best" ones. And the people are having fun talking to a celebrity.
As for what I think of American entertainment: I don't have a TV. I actually haven't seen that show for years.
But I do think education has been better. Especially here in California. You're right the TV segments don't prove anything on that score.
