It is a 3d wire frame sketch they produced. There's no faces and it is not clear that there is much more than the outline sketches that can be produced. But why do you say it isn't 3d? The sketching action is something I'd like to use in 2d software. I've imagined something like this myself. It looks intuitive but the controls sound complicated. If anything it is still in development and so the descriptions sound analytical and idiosyncratic.
LOL
Wish the second video quality were better. I like the organ swell after they announce how much money he got. Then when they announce how he used the money, I thought they were going to talk about the "good works" he did, but no, he goes out and buys a car! That's entertainment.

and a last thought. can you describe love as a drug? because I am really high, when I am in love. when I break up with someone after a serious relationship, I suffer for a serious withdrawal syndrom for some time...
Been there too, plot. They've already isolated some of the peptides that course through your body while "in love". We have to separate the high and the addiction from the core of our devotion. It is hard to do, and I've said "never again" multiple times. Experience both the temporal and spiritual highs, but one endures.
This would be good for Pumpkins and Halloween competition!
Welcome to the forum, Tankou! I am a still a newbie myself.
Unless the arcs are lying on one plane, you won't get a face right away. In the attached file I draw the arcs on a rectangle, then separate the part I want. Click on scenes for a short sequence of steps.
If parts of the arcs are out of plane, then you have to use Sandbox / From Contours tool: selecting the arcs and picking the tool. You then get a face. Open the resulting group and use the eraser tool to delete parts you don't want. Drag over them from the outer edges inward, until you get all the parts deleted. I added a file for this too.
Or there are other tools (rubies) for making faces on irregular surfaces. It may take watching a couple of tutorials or help from more experienced users, to choose the method you want.
Here's a good video with Daniel Tal on irregular surfaces.

Gaieus,
Could you explain the use of scale tool in the second scene? I don't see the result of it's use. It looks like a follow-me was executed.
Thank you for posting the tutorial. I'm not building one of these, but it's educational none-the-less.
I hope we get to see the finished models here.

The watercolor helps blend the styles, as you'd expect. Is that a Dennis technique? Nice models and renders.
I have to say I like the first picture's camera angle most. The one looking over the wall, probably from a lower elevation, is making the building look like it is leaning back and doesn't show off the central features as nicely.
You must get a lot of Colonial things to do back east, where we get more than enough Mediterranean projects.
EDIT: Oops I see you've added tons more. I am speaking of the first pictures.
If you have enough free time, I'll send you something to make presentable for me.
Ever notice the Michelin man looks like tires but he's white.
Agree on Halloween. It used to be just a few days and seemed more natural. Old clothes made into costumes. Pumpkins (not plastic ones), apples, straw, hokey homemade decorations, paper cutouts... Now at the beginning of October people plunk mass produced trash in their front yards. Sorry if I offend, I don't mean you.
Not to mislead on dating myself. Sure there were store-bought costumes and stuff then too, but not whole stores dedicated to Halloween.
Tony,
Great looking work. Being new to (not yet doing) rendering, I look for simple ways to get a good image from SU. I would not know how to make such a watermark image. Would you mind sharing one? Do you just make layers in photoshop for the different parts (different transparencies) and output as .png?
I like the way you do the ground. Looks good without fussing with busy textures.
Fortunate for us you have your website in English. Nice site.
Peter
SU apparently doesn't know which face to make which color. There are ways of predicting how SU will assign the faces, but there's differing opinions on how reliable these are (from discussions I've read here). Just observe.
In your comment about the thickness of the wall... not necessarily. It just may be that the top of the wall (seen without a roof) is blue, If the surface is not to be seen normally then don't worry about it. If it is a garden wall you'll want it to be white so you can add texture and render it later. I wouldn't worry about it too much if you are not rendering but, as they say, it's good practice--besides it looks better to have all faces in the model one color, while you're working on it.
EDIT --Jean is the experienced one, check his post. Great tutorial, Jean. That should be a standard SU Help video.
They mean the surfaces that will be seen by the camera in the finished models should be the white faces. Surfaces hidden inside objects or facing the ground etc. should be blue. You change by hold-down right-clicking on object and choosing "reverse faces" in the pull down menu. It is also in the Face submenu under Edit (on a Mac anyway), once you have the face(s) selected. As noted this becomes more important when you go on to rendering the model in a different program.
So if you use two surfaces to make a wall, you will see white inside the house and out. You should only see the blue when you are inside the thickness of the wall itself.
Sounds like you might select all and use "reverse faces", but review the model right after to see if this looks right, so you can undo.
I think the rendering style is nice and has a consistent feel between subject and surroundings. Nice atmosphere, but somewhat "contained" due to soft shadows, very quiet.
As for the house (a downloaded model)--I like the roof. But it looks like they dug a hole in the ground in order to have to walk up stairs to a one story structure. OK, that's for the car. It is purposely disconnected from the land, as if the whole point is to drive out on the weekend and look out at the trees from inside the rather over-engineered abode. Fun though. As it seems to be on a rise, maybe this is to replace a house on Galveston island.
But Ron if you don't pay taxes WHO is going to bail out Wall Street?
This would be the icing on the cake. People don't pay mortgages, banks won't loan money... and add a tax rebellion on top. We ain't paying either.
Mr. S
I get the point of most of what you say but do you really find it so strange that...

They are also quick to display their outrage when anyone dares to make jokes about certain ethnic minorities.
?
There are jokes and there are jokes. As I noted above some are a play on our prejudices, sometimes the stereotypes are laughable (ethnic comedians make use of them). But some jokes ABOUT other ethnic groups that are demeaning, are indeed wrong. You want to deny history, but you can see see it everyday in the news. These attitudes hold-up the hatreds that lead to repression, injustice, and genocide. It's not funny. It's not about certain ethnic groups, it's about people all over the world perpetrating hate.
Attacking back in the same matter isn't any better, I agree. People are free to make their jokes. Others are free to protest.
What does "But it's not an ideal world." mean? I assume you want to see it better?

I once read a a sci-fi short story where they finally decided to elect the President by lottery, which everyone was joined in, so any "Joe Six-pack" (that's not condescending, I guess, when a Republican uses it?) could actually be President. Somehow this election reminded me of that, and how: the people just want to be able to vote for someone like themselves, however they define that, qualifications and issues be damned.
Well-done shoe-shine photo. Comedy that plays with our prejudices is tricky. Some people don't get it. This is sort of a double-whammy.
EDIT: I'm changing my mind. In case my comment is misunderstood: I took the picture to be playing on our preconceptions of race and racists. I have to admit it was not in good taste. It would be seen as demeaning and hurtful to people who don't deserve it. Not criticizing others here, just reflecting on the picture itself and that it accurately depicts, sadly, what some people believe.
Yes, this is really scraping the barrel. So Obama was on a charity board for an organization that also asked a certain professor to serve, apparently respecting this professor enough despite his very tarnished past (a member of a bomber orgainization, never convicted and denouncing his involement).
This is "palling" (is that Alaskan language?) with terrorists!
Thanks for elucidating and posting the plug-ins Shadow.
Greg, PLEASE post some more work on a new thread. that's fascinating modeling.
Nice one Ron. Neat house too. I think SU comes across well in monochromatic (or dichromatic) presentations, without a lot of rendering. ("day for night")

This is sick! Starve our babies for the sake of calves? Just because they got their priorities wrong does not mean they should try to force it on others.
No-- it's for the sake of ICE CREAM. Where are your priorities?
Seriously, although I have been into organic foods, and was vegetarian for quite awhile, I never understood these "natural" arguments. I would encounter many people who would say it is not natural for grown people to drink any milk--look at other animals.
Other animals don't drink milk because THEY CAN'T GET IT! Humans do a lot of things other animals don't. Most omnivores would love milk if they can get it, and possibly herbivores too.
And on the other hand, animals in any situation can be abused. Dairies can be good and bad. PETA should concentrate on those issues (if this is indeed a real situation and not a joke). If it was a real campaign, I think it was meant to be absurd on purpose.
