With SketchUp 2023, you can apply a fill to the dimension text box and then make that fill transparent.
However, if the dimension text is anywhere over the dimension line, the dimension line will be visible behind the dimension text.
( I've only skimmed through the posts so I might have not understood the issue properly or repeated what someone else has said )

Naturally I agree with everything slbaumgartner says about assigning tags to edges and faces.
I had disabled the recursive part of the plugin as I did not need that.
I've been using this successfully over the years.
Following recent helpful discussions with slbaumgartner and anotheron the other forum regarding ruby coding, for my personal use, I have reworked the code and wrapped it in modules.
I have the Disto D510 and although it's less feature rich than the S910, I would never rely on a DWG or DXF import produced by the Disto to create a SketchUp model for exactly the reason you describe.
I once tried to create a model from a DWG import provided by a survey provider and it was a nightmare. I ended up just using the DWG for reference.
I use my Disto to take the measurements and I annotate a paper sketch plan of the site with those dimensions.
If the software was more user friendly I could imagine myself transferring the Disto measurements via bluetooth to the Disto app bypassing the paper sketch plan, but even then I'm not sure...

But I don't want it to move all nested geometry (groups) to the target layer.
e.g. I'll have a nest of, say, three groups - outer group on a wall layer, middle group on an exterior layer and the inner most group on an existing layer.
I'm not experienced in the SketchUp API... In the code I've commented out the two lines of code where the the recursion happens and the plugin now seems to not move all nested geometry to the target layer, which is what I want to happen.
Is this a correct assumption to make or have I corrupted the plugin despite it seeming to work?
