    • RE: Render from new project

Welcome to the forum 3D View (do you have a name?;)

      Nice looking render.

You could throw some sun on this side of the building - might showcase it a bit better than having it in shadow. Having the sun come from the foreground will also match the shading of your people cutouts a little better. You could rotate some of your trees so they don't look cookie cutter right down the line - both the big ones on the left and the little ones next to the building. Could also track down a higher res sky bg for better effect - do a search on this forum or on your fav search engine, should be able to find something...

      Thanks for sharing!

working on new tile. got a nice high res base from Solo - a converted Maxwell tex.

I thought I'd give this landsat image texture a whirl superimposed over the smooth tiles to add some "earthiness".

    • RE: Replica

      Cool idea! And nice execution.

I took a shot at setting it down on the ground. πŸ˜„ added some shadow (the problem with mimicking the lack of shadow from the original is that yours sits slightly foreground of the original - notice there's no depth in the foundation of the original image. and I added some happy little snow piles, blurred the stilts into the snow... oh, and desaturated/lightened a bit - could probably even use a little more lightening on the dark brown facade.

Great job, Spence. I like the rich color, the atmosphere. I didn't know Piranesi could do this. My understanding is that it's a semi-2d interface that uses depth-map info to incorporate 3d effects. How does that work with lighting? Do you paint it in? Are there "light sources" and lighting properties settings, etc.?

      Thanks everyone. πŸ˜„

Here's another go at it. I took a shot at bump maps, etc. in KT. I was pleased with the result of the rug, but still working on the tile. Back to basics - I'm reading the Material Editor Guide - or just "to basics" I guess... πŸ˜„

added details to model (trim, baseboard, fireplace, logs), changed bg, softened light... I'm learning πŸ‘

I dulled the background one more time and added a little noise overall - I think it ties it together nicely.

    • RE: 'small' house model...

Great work, Jason. not much to add to the design conversation... out of curiosity, where's the "front"? I like the winged out garage. I like the way it can create a kind of personal courtyard feel in front of the house.

I also dig the expansive garage; room for a couple projects, work space, etc., plus you don't have to kick out the daily driver in the winter. πŸ˜„

Nice detailed model, thanks for posting.

    • RE: Axes <> Axes ?

      Can you post the file?

Looks like nested axes disagreement, but I don't know how your mirror/scale operation would have carried the component's axis orientation unless you duplicated it within the component. Kind of hard to say without looking at the model.

Can you reset the axes' orientation within the component to agree with the global axes? (Using Tools>Axes within the component)
