Im comming off of wings 3d and decided to switch because it feels stupidly outdated, but now im looking to see if i can do some of the same things i do in wings. One of my most used tools in wings was the cut tool where you select an edge and as the name implies, cut it into a certain number of segments. There was also an inset tool that would inset faces (create smaller faces within a face basically.) Is there anything like this in su?

Is there a way to do this?

Sketchup keeps crashing on import
Hey all been trying to import a certain file into su and it keeps crashing! If someone could take a look it it i would be forever in your debt!

Model keeps crashing upon import
Hey all trying to import a 3ds file and it keeps crashing whenever i try to import it. Its pretty high poly (around 90k) but i have my other modelling app set up to export at 10x scale. I found some wierd geometry but i fixed it and it still crashes

Looking for fluid simulation plugin
Im looking for a fluid simulation. Anyone know of one?

Hey, newbie here
OK, I just picked up sketchy physics a few days ago. Im not planning on doing anything fancy with it. Just using the collisions to set up a shot for a render.
So, here is a shot of what I have going on
Basically what im trying to do is add in some gravity to get the lego blocks to fall into the dish in a pile. That's it. So, the question is what state would I want to set things to? Correct shape?

Idea for simple plugin
All I want is two things. Something that divides an edge into a given number of equidistant points.. and then a tool for connecting said points (aka creation more faces.) Now I dont know squat about coding, but i dont think it should be too hard to do...

RE: Inseting face?
So are there other ways of creating the hemisphere? How did you do it? It's a little hard to get sketchup to make the other circle standing up.

RE: Inseting face?
I guess i missed the option for changing the # of sides when creating the circle

RE: Inseting face?
@dave r said:
Turn on hidden geometry and select the half you don't want. Delete the selection.
It would be easier just to make a hemisphere in the first place.
hmm, I used a plugin to make the sphere and it doesn't seem to have a hemisphere option.. I could have used su's tools, but it creates low poly spheres.

RE: Inseting face?
The offset tool did the trick! I have another question.. I have a sphere that I want to cut in half,, what would be the best way to go about doing this?

RE: Scaling face uniformly
Thanks! That did it! My other question was is there a plugin floating around to cut edges? Wings3D has a tool that lets you cut an edge into a certain amount of vertices. The advantage her is that you could get evenly spaced points instead of having to eye ball it.

Scaling face uniformly
Hey, I tried to scale one of my faces, but it ended up only scaling it in a single axis. How would I do it for all of them at the same time?
