Idea for simple plugin

All I want is two things. Something that divides an edge into a given number of equidistant points.. and then a tool for connecting said points (aka creation more faces.) Now I dont know squat about coding, but i dont think it should be too hard to do...

Thomthom's 'Edge-Tools' [specifically its 'Divide-Face'] might already do it ?

SketchUp does this already - right-clic any line or line segment and select "divide"
