very nice. i'm slacking on my holiday card this year since I decided to email instead of snail mail them.. need to knock it out this weekend.

Thank you! I used MailChimp to send out my Christmas card to all of my clients. Worked a treat πŸ˜„

I meant to mention though. After the holidays someone needs to prune those trees. They look like they are coming right up to the window (or closer)!

Haha, nothing worse than an unruly bush! πŸ˜„

Very nice work, but the tree and ornaments don't seem quite right.

Thanks, I agree with you re: tree. It could be much more realistic, as for the baubles, I kinda like 'em πŸ˜„

Nicely done, Anita! Did you use the automatic Image trace function, or just trace by hand?

Thanks Marcus. Can't really take the credit though, it was your expert advice that was the starting point! I traced it very quickly by hand πŸ˜„

      Hi Max,

There are several ways to do this in addition to nigel's recommendations.

      1. Trace the image in Inkscape or Illustrator to create vector lines, then export those lines as DXF. Import the vectors using Sketchup Pro or a plugin (here's one) if using Sketchup Make. Use the Make Faces plugin on the imported vectors, and push/pull away! This method will produce the cleanest model.

Well done, d12dozr! Followed your suggestion at no.1 and it worked a treat (never used Illustrator in my life but had it on my laptop)!! Admittedly, the Vector lines are a little crude but you get the general idea.

      Max, you're good to go!

    • RE: Maxwell Standalone Render Farms?

Haha, yea interiors are a killer! But then, I try to do what I can to reduce render time - there are lots of things you can do to try and minimise this, like not using full RGB levels (white for example, I use 230 RGB and not 255). I try to keep reflective surfaces to a minimum and restrict the number of individual emitters (using multi-light and having a lot of emitter settings increases render time) but sometimes this isn't possible.

On average, for an interior that has many different textures/reflective surfaces and emitters (and individual components), it's approx Β£20 to render 1 image to 20 SL.

    • RE: Maxwell Standalone Render Farms?

Hi there, I use Maxwell Render with SketchUp (I have the Maxwell Render suite) and when I have tight deadlines I use Rebus. https://www.rebusfarm.net/en/

On average, the renders are completed in approx. 10 mins (usually 20 SL). But this time frame can decrease or increase depending on other jobs in the queue.

      Hope this helps.

    • RE: Another Bar/Restaurant

These are fantastic images! I'm so impressed! Question: does SketchUp give you problems when working on models this size? When I'm creating 3D models for an Event Design company and have to include loads of tables/chairs/flowers etc. my SketchUp file doesn't like it - there are terrible delays etc. Would I be able to improve this by getting a more powerful hard drive?

SketchUp and I were barely speaking last week, due to licencing problems, so I decided to have a little (creative) downtime by creating yet another animation.

I'm not sure why I'm so addicted to creating these. But they're mighty fun!!

    • RE: Maxwell Emitters not working...Please Help

      Hi there,

I have the Maxwell Render suite and I've never applied Emitters using the Studio, only the plugin (you can still use the plugin with the suite). I find that for what I'm trying to achieve, that I don't need to use the Studio for Emitters.

To get a 'bulb' to emit; I apply a material to the component, then using the Maxwell plugin within SketchUp I select 'emitter'. I then choose the wattage etc.

To illustrate the beam of light against a wall, I create a small sphere, again apply a material to it and using the Maxwell plugin, I choose IES Emitter. Then I select one of the IES files (these would have downloaded with Maxwell Render and can be found in the Maxwell folder in your C Drive).

      Hope this helps!

Really nice work! Those are colors I might have chosen for my own home.

Needs a big ashtray on the coffee table though πŸ˜‰

Yeah, I know - not "PC", but what is nowdays πŸ˜’

Thanks! That colour palette is so awesome and would appeal to both males and females alike. Win-win! Come on now, an ashtray would never be factored into the styling of an interior (although, worst case scenario, the tea-light holders could be used if one was 'caught out')!!
