Thanks for that Roger πŸ˜„ but its a bit inconvenient for me. I could do the wheel your way but again a lot of other parts of the tank wont work with that technique... I know it will look a bit dodgy on bigger parts.

Wow now that is pretty sweet looking. Seems like that software is quite useful

*note- this is not a real tool in sketchup.. it's a mockup video for a feature request i made a couple of years ago.. it hasn't been made yet.. (and my fingers aren't crossed on it ever being made πŸ˜„ )

Nice tool but why would you recommend it when it is not released?

Roger I am attaching the file for you here.

The choices I see are soften the line, create a quarter tube and tilt to fit and patch it in carefully, drag a fillet profile down that valley with the follow me tool and patch the ends, or use some specialty plugins that may or may not be expensive.

I see what you are saying, I done it many times but for the wheel I was working on it might work, or I could just leave it but for the front of the tank and the turret itself it will not.

Would seem like I finally managed to find a limit of what you can do in sketchup.

Its not ment to be 3d Printed, its a personal project that I wanted practice the organic shapes in sketchup. Tanks are my interest and this M103 has a lot of curved faces that would be a challenge. I only wish to engage in this project and do my best to get a really good and well detailed 3D model.

I did a T-34 tank in sketchup before (rendered in cinema 4D) but that did not have that many curved/organic surfaces as you can see in the attachment.

Wow that looks amazing and could really help but unfortunately I am a poor student hence why I am using sketchup 😞

      Is there any alternative?

    • HELP with Sketchup Hypernurbs? soften corners?

      Hello,

I am attaching the files, on the right is a photo of what I am trying to achieve and the left is my attempt in sketchup...

      [xxl-img:24j1hnhb]http://oi40.tinypic.com/2zqdiye.jpg[/xxl-img:24j1hnhb]

Trying to model a wheel for a tank, however as you can see on the photo it has a really smooth curved look. I know if I was going to use software like Cinema 4d I could make simple geometry add add hypernurbs to get the desired look.

However in Sketchup I was thinking that if I used RoundCorner plugin http://sketchupdate.blogspot.co.uk/2010/07/take-edge-off-roundcorners.html I could get the effect I want but it wont work.

I wanted to ask is there any alternative to what I want to achieve. The wheel is just a starter as I am trying to model M103 Tank which will have a lot of curved faces.

    • Automatic orthographic view?

Is there an easy way to create an orthographic view of an object made in Sketchup? Plugin maybe?

Does SU pro layout contain this option possibly?

      Thank you!

    • 3D shape and net with glueless folding technique?

      Hello,

I am doing a school project and I have a 3D shape which I made in sketchup and got a net for it too. However I was wondering if anyone could suggest and glueless method of putting them together (except tape as well)

I am planning on using 2mm cardboard for it

      My shapes: http://yfrog.com/2cshapes1j
      Net: http://yfrog.com/45shapes2j

I also found an example of a product already out there which uses interesting glueless method but would that work with my shapes?

    • Laptop for 3D Design?

      Hello,

I need to buy a laptop for college work, I be starting Product design course in London and I will spend most of my time working in applications like Cinema 4D, Sketchup and Photoshop.

Would anyone know any recommendations for a laptop that would handle above tasks?
My budget isn't very high one but I will be willing to spend up to Β£900 for a machine.

Even if you could suggest what I should be aiming for a laptop to have like what graphics, cpu etc then that would make it easier for me to look for one myself.

But if you have any laptops on your mind or could help me out with looking to get one please post it here.

My preference for a laptop would be 17" screen, does not need long battery life.

      Thank you,

      Milo

    • Urgent help pls

      Hello,

I wonna make a shhpe that has two faces, one on top and one on the bottom... they are both different as you cna see in the screenshot...
What I want to do is have a pattern (as youc an see secodn screenshot) taht goes in bewteen them all around teh edge... I used the Chris Fullmers plugin "component stringer to get teh pattern to go all around nicely but I want the patter to be thinner in some places... I have no idea how to do it... Iw as thinking maybe if I had the pattern follow two lines (edges of each of the top and bottom faces) then it could of been done quicker and more efficent.

      Thank you,

      Milo

Here you can see the top is perfectly aligned

Here you can see the space in bewteen where the pattern should go around

As you can see here the pattern is not alligned with the bootom face

    • Lookin for a plugin

      Hello,

Say I create a an organic plane made from a series of planes... I want to place a group/component on each edge/face... Hower the component/group if placed on a face should align with it so that the components/groups still form the same organic feel.... I only look to arrange those shapes groups/components to follow a specific shape...

I put on some example of what I mean in the attachment,

      Thanks,

      Milo

    • RE: Need Help with spiral shape

Thank you for the links, really helpfull... I tried the components stringer and I thinks thats the most usefull one since I got what I wanted... I think... I still need to play around with it a little bit but have a look in the attachments....
The first attachment shows the try n error stages... but the second attachment shows a little bit more succes... The one on the right is what it looks like right after the plugin places the components along the spiral. It then hit me that they are all components connected tohgether so I only have to rotate one in order for them all to rotate.

I keep you gusy updated on that,

      Thanks again,

      Milo
