Allright then, let's see a model of the chair, and the real thing when it's done!

RE: Ruled surface
Are you familiar with the Curviloft plugin? I think that would do the trick in no time flat.

RE: How to use shape as template to cut holes?
Due to costs and time restraints the holes didn't make it to the actual job, but it turned out nice
I was just gonna ask about the holes! -

FYI, Rockler sells this hardware...

RE: POINT AT CENTER
this is a quote from Dave R :"Go to Window and click on Extension Warehouse. In the top right corner of the window there'll be a search line. Type in Ruby Script Examples and you should go right to it."
I haven't upgraded yet so I can't verify it, but I hope it helps

RE: Sketchup rounds to 0.1 inch
It sounds like you need to alter your "precision setting" under Window/Model Info

RE: Can't even make half a dang dome
Isn't this where Pilou would mention the "Quick lathe" plugin?

RE: Sugestions for chair modeling
Certainly it helps to break it into smaller, more manageable parts, like you would in the shop in real life. BTW, do you have any info on the craftsman of the chair? I like it!

RE: Joints
A while back I bookmarked this link on my computer. It's an "e-book" of a classic woodworking text. Plenty to be found here: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/21531/21531-h/21531-h.htm

RE: Applying The Board Stretcher
if you soak them in warm water and pull real hard you can get at least a couple inches out of them...

RE: Square as base and circle as top face
Am I missing something or this Can be done with native tools and simply moving a circle vertically from on top of a square. One just needs to lock the vertical dimension when using the Move tool, no?

RE: Glacier
I can imagine a collective exclamation from all of us responsible for global warming saying: "Oops, sorry, my bad".
(Of course I don't actually know that global warming had Anything to do with this, but it surely seems representational) -

Have you turned off shadows, and do you work in "Monochrome", and in a default line style? Any visual "effects" slow you down...
This is what I love about this forum! Thanks so obvious but I was working with shadows on and in shaded mode! What a big difference! I am going to look into the other suggestions as well as I am sure there are additional things to speed things up, but this was huge. Thanks for not assuming I knew this.
That's why other relative beginners are often more helpful than experts. It's easy to forget what it's like being a beginner! Thankfully I'm a relative SketchUp newbie too (compared to the geniuses you find here). Anyway, I'm glad it helped.

Really like it. How would you go about actually making the flared legs?
I'm 99% sure they're straight on the inside, so it's a relatively simple matter of starting out with an oversize rectangle and cutting the curve- bandsaw+handtools, or router template+bandsaw+flush trim w/router.
