Looks like another handy tool to have.
Thanks.

RE: Dr. Who
I won't really give the new Dr. Who a seal of approval until they bring back Davros.
If you don't know who Davros is then you never really knew Dr. Who!
It would be interesting to see what a new version of him would be like.
He was the only character in the old series that was scary. To make Dr. Who even better all the Escala girls should be his new assistants!

RE: Where do you work?
Hi Alan,
Yes, you are right, we are right next to the La Tasca Tapas bar.
Every now and then we get a whiff of whats cooking.
I walk past it going home of an evening and the smell makes me feel as though I am on my holidays.I'm not quite sure about the re-development taking place in the city.
I have been to see the first phase which was opened to the public a few weeks ago.
Its all very impressive shiny steel and glass.
But... I feel as though it could be part of any modern city in the world.
It didn't feel as though it had anything unique to our city.
It had no real atmosphere or soul. A bit like the shopping malls in America, just more temples to consumerism. (Sorry, Americans!)
Also, it feels as though the centre of the city is being transplanted closer to the docks.
Maybe not a bad thing in the long run providing the "old" centre doesn't end up abandoned.Regards

RE: Set centre point on multiple objects?
Hi Jim,
Perhaps my "Yipee" was premature!
I have attached 2 SketchUp files.
One is from the original Site Survey guide. Your script works on this.
The second one is a section of the file I am currently working on. your script doesn't seem to work. For the life of me I can't see any obvious reason why this would happen.
Can you figure it out?Regards

Hi Jim,
Yipee!!
You are another Ruby genius who has helped me out.
Thanks very much for taking the time to help me out.(Still wish I could remember how I did it originally!)

Hi Jim,
Sorry, but after adding the plugin I received this error on restarting SketchUp.

RE: Set centre point on multiple objects?
Hi Jim,
Thanks for trying to help, but...
I ran each command one at a time in the Ruby command console but nothing seemed to happen.
This will be user error, I know! This is really frustrating because I have done this in the past using the guide shown.
I know I was able to create centre points on hundreds of multiple objects using a Ruby plugin. Just wish I could remember how I did it.Here is the original link for the "Howard Leslie" guide: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=4276

Hi Bob,
Sorry, about that.
You also helped out with this problem but it was actually Howard Leslie who provided the tutorial. I have edited my original post.Mr S.

Set centre point on multiple objects?
Hi,
I have done this before but have now forgot how I did it!
I have multiple objects selected and I wish to place a centre point on all of them.
At the moment I can only create one centre point in the middle of them all.
As you can see from the atttached image I am using a ruby script called 'centrepoint'.
I'm pretty sure that is what I used last time but maybe it was just a similar ruby script?I am trying to follow through a guide created by 'Howard Leslie' who kindly helped me with this previously. I have attached this also, so you can see better what I am trying to do.
Thanks.

RE: Where do you work?
Hi,
I have only just come across this post.
I work for a company based in the heart of Liverpool city centre.
A city that had been neglected for decades is now having nearly £1Billion (yes, one billion!) spent in an effort to restore some of its previous glory.
While parts of Liverpool did fall in to a terrible state many people didn't realise that Liverpool has some of the best neo-classical buildings in Europe. The main view out of my window is St.Georges Hall.
St George's Hall is widely regarded as a major work of European architecture and arguably, the finest neo-classical building in the world.
Alongside this beautiful building is the Walker Art Gallery. Another fine building.Attached are images of my office from inside and out and the buildings mentioned above.

Barack Obama - What a surprise!
Perhaps reading this may help all those who thought Barack Obama represented "real" change, to wake up.

Yet again, despite all the media hype, we see that there is no real difference between the main establishment parties.
No change. Same S**t. -
RE: Animation in sketchup
I have yet to try this software out.
But it looks as though it can do what you require.
It claims to work well with SketchUp files.Visit: http://www.antics3d.com/

RE: Global Climate Change - Another View
Depending how old you are, some of you may remember that in the 1970s the media were telling us how it was a proven scientific fact that that the world was going to end because of "Acid Rain" caused my modern industry. We were told that the scientific community were all agreed on this. I also remember the media campaign about the threat of AIDS. It got so scary that you felt the only way to survive was to become a Monk or Nun!
Although these issues (and many others) are very serious, I don't feel inclined to listen to individuals like Al Gore. His career as a politician is over, and this is just another fasionable issue to keep himself in the limelight. He should stick to just becoming another talking head in the media industry, like all other failed or retired politicians do.
I am not just picking on Al Gore. I feel just the same about Bono, Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Bob Geldof etc. What makes these people think that just because I may enjoy a movie, or listen to one of their songs, that I care in the slightest what their political views are?
I have a great Bakers shop by me and I really like the owner and enjoy his produce.
This doesn't lead me to believe that he has the answers to all the worlds problems.
Why do people in the media think what they have to say is somehow special?
More importantly, and more concerning, is how many of the general public actually take seriously what they have to say.Regards

I know this topic has been discussed before so I thought you may like to check out this link which suggests that Al Gore and his followers need to have a re-think.

RE: High poly thing
Would enabling SketchUp to fully utilise DirectX improve matters?
I have noticed that when using 3D Studio MAX that choosing to use DirectX as opposed to the other graphic modes available including OpenGL, the feedback, screen detail and overall perfomance seems superior.
I'm not a Microsoft fan boy by any means (see my other post complaing about animation codecs)and I understand people wanting to opt for "open source" software if possible.
But if Microsofts solution is better I would want to take advantage of that fact.Does anybody know which is best?
OpenGL or DirectX?Regards

RE: Exporting to Quicktime on a PC?
Hi Gaieus,
I could have reduced the files to the finished dimensions required using the batch option in Photoshop. That would have removed the need for Quicktime to rescale the images for output. But Quicktime did such an excellent job of rescaling and preventing the dreaded jaggies that I just avoided adding an additional step to the process.
However, I may try what you suggest and try the "Animation" codec again.
This produced a much more reasonable file size.
If it can do it without the jaggies that would be perfect.
Thanks.Mr S

RE: Exporting to Quicktime on a PC?
Hi,
I thought I would just update this thread with a little bit more information about the end results I have obtained with my animation tests.
As suggested, I produced still JPEGS at twice the resolution I required from the Animation export option. The finished size animation I required needed to be 856px X 480px (16:9 aspect ration), and lasts for 2 minutes and 20 seconds.
I have pretty much given up on any Windows codecs.
Even when rendering uncompressed AVI files which produced file sizes in the gigabytes, they still suffered from anti-aliasing!Using Quicktime Pro I produced animations using different "codec" options.
The first one I tried (seemed the obvious one) was "Animation"
This produced a very reasonable file size but suffered from anti-aliasing.I then tried using the "Graphics" option.
This produced a fantastic result. Smooth animation with almost no anti-aliasing visible at all. The price to pay for this was a file size of 260Mb. This codec only supports an 8bit colour palette, so you could experience colour banding, depending on your subject matter.Lastly, I upgraded to the latest version of Quicktime which provides the option to export using the new H.264 codec.
I had high hopes for this!
The end result was the same as using the "Graphics" codec but without the colour depth restrictions.
Great, but the end file size was 330Mb.So, I can now produce good quality animations, but at the price of suffering pretty hefty files sizes.
Hope this info proves useful to others.

RE: Exporting to Quicktime on a PC?
Hi,
Yes, I am using the latest Pro version.
My query was that when exporting 2D still JPGs you can specify the resolution size and whether you wish anti-aliasing applied.
When exporting JPG stills from the Animation export option there is no option available concerning anti-aliasing.
I just wondered why.Regards

RE: Server problems
I don't think you need to offer any apologies for dedicating your time to improving this forum. It's very much appreciated.
And the CatchUp newsletter was an excellent read also!
Thanks.
