    • Has anyone noticed the progression to a 'cashless' economy?

I think the move to a 'cashless' economy has gained much momentum over the past few years. We now have Apple getting in on the act with their 'Apple Pay' on the iPhone 6 and the new Apple Watch. https://www.apple.com/apple-pay/

I have no problem with a 'cashless' economy as it would help to eliminate crime BUT I do have a problem with Government / Central Banks in FULL control of the system.

Here is an interesting video on the subject, Bankers Propose Banning Cash - "Make Cash Illegal" to Usher in Cashless Society & Digital Currency
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage%26amp;v=eUFhRb53n1k

Another thing that has recently dawned on me is the true meaning of the word 'Government'. I think we should be aiming at replacing the actual function of and word (Government) to 'Steering Committee'. An elected committee is what we would have in the case of a club large or small. Is not any particular nation a club of sorts?

    • RE: What's the best way to learn SketchUp Shortcut Keys?

Thanks for the feedback and great tips guys.

One thing that throws a spanner in the works when it come to muscle memory and shortcut keys is that its either a left or right hand operation depending on whether one is right or left-handed. My two handed typing skills get me by. Its a mixture of eight finger typing and a little one finger typing. It works for me and muscle memory comes into play.

Maybe all the shortcut keys for a left-hander should be on the right side of the keyboard and in that case of a right-hander the light side of the keyboard? Could this be a follow through building on normal typing with muscle memory?

      Hi All,

I've been asked by a newbie about the best way to learn SketchUp shortcut keys. I thought I would pass it on here to see if you guys can throw some light on the subject or offer tips / hints.

It seems that an action takes 5000 repetitionsfor it to stick with 'muscle memory'. Here is a YouTube that explains the process for a musician, How Muscle Memory Works

      Any thoughts appreciated 😄

    • PhoneDrone gives your smartphone wings

The PhoneDrone uses a smart phone as its brain. This makes perfect sense when you consider that today's smart phones have powerful processors, multiple sensors and good cameras.

xCraft have developed the PhoneDrone and have managed to keep the cost very low in comparison to similar drones. There are two ways it can be flown, firstly using a free app on the phone, users can enter a flight path which the PhoneDrone will autonomously follow. The second method offers the user the ability to use a second smart phone or tablet (iOS or Android) to manually pilot the drone via WiFi and at the same time watch live streaming video from the drone's on-board smartphone while in flight.

At 200 to 250 dolars I think this is a great way to create land aerials for use as overlay textures in SketchUp. Their funding target is high at $250K but I would be confident they will reach it as they are offering a well design drone at great value.

Looks like a good package, shame it will need to be registered as a moped in the european union...

You'll need registration, insurance, a licence and to wear a motorcycle helmet...

      john

I've looked into that matter and from what I can gather its very grey at the moment. I know a couple of guys that have Chinese electric / peddle scooters and it seems, here at least, that registration and insurance is not required although I understand that a motorbike helmet is but again is only sensible to have head protection in case of a collision.

The head protection that appeals to me is the Hovding bicycle airbags which is claiming to offer three times more protection than a standard bicycle helmet. http://www.hovding.com/

    • Ride the Wave!

I've been looking around for a well spec'd eBike. Something that can get up a head of steam and is comfortable also at reasonable cost.

Yesterday I came across the Wave Electric and it ticks all the right boxes for me at $549 currently. Its an Indiegogo campaign and has achieved its initial target goal of $70,000 and is now at over $400,000. With 33 days left it looks that the Wave Team could well achieve the $1,000,000+ mark.

      Ride the Wave.jpg

Due to the overwhelming response the standard bike will now include free perks as follows,

      Front Removable Basket
      Thick Tire Tubes
      Matte Black
      Battery Charger
      Extra Battery Charger
      Front Disc Brake
      6-Speed Shimano Gear
      LCD Display + Cruise Control

I was a little hesitant about the high handle bars but after some investigation I understand that these are the most comfortable as the rider is positioned more upright ..... better for the back!

Does anyone know of a better eBike for around $500?

    • YALINY will bring communication costs down!

      Hi All,

Just learned about Yaliny and their mission which sounds great to me. In my experience mobile telephone and BB services are far too expensive and are being maintained so by big business under 'sown up' government licensing systems that are IMO quite questionable in many cases.

      The YALINY Mission.png

This is a short email I have received from Yaliny asking a few simple questions which will help them along the road. Please spare a minute or so to help them out.

      *Dear Friend,

At Yaliny, we greatly appreciate your trust and support! We’ve worked really hard every step of the way to our common dream - to be able to provide inexpensive, high quality and ubiquitous, unlimited mobile service, right from your smartphone.

Just recently, Yaliny has advanced from the stage of prototype construction to the stage of testing.

We've finished our main communication system prototype. We've designed multiple high-efficiency satellite modules.

We’ve moved our headquarter to Silicon Valley, California.

We’ve also grown our team and have hired more than 50 brilliant and highly talented specialists from all the different astronautical engineering areas.

We are committed to providing our service to you as soon as possible. To help us, please answer these few questions:

      1. Country of residence

      2. Have you ever used satellite voice or data services? If yes, are you still using them?

      3. What is your average monthly bill for your cellular or satellite service per month (including roaming, etc.) ?

      Thank you in advance!

Don’t forget to check out our new website and please let us know what you think about it! http://www.yaliny.com/*

It only took a few minutes to get the Beta invite.

I had a play around with Onshape and found it quite intuitive and feel that a novice could get to grips with the application in a few hours.

And yes, there is a free full version limited to 5 projects / storage. The Professional version with unlimited projects / storage is $100 per month which looks to be reasonably good value for the user that is into product / part design.

    • RE: I need a new mouse

Yeah, there is a lot to be said for using a cheap workhorse mouse or at least having one as a reliable backup.

On the other hand, I'm currently using a Wireless Scope Node that I purchased via Amazon
      http://www.amazon.ca/Elecom-Wireless-Sensor-3-button-M-sn2dlbk/dp/B009DJ7P34

      Scope Node M-SN2DLBK.jpg
It feels good in the hand and closely resembles working with a pen. The other useful feature that I learned about is that the scroll wheel has three actions, scroll, click scroll (for orbiting) and push click move for panning.

I came across https://paperspace.io/ yesterday and thought that some here might be interested in the application.

In a nutshell, if you have a spare monitor, keyboard and BB with 15Mbps download speed and less than 60 ms of latency the 'Paperweight' can be hooked up to create a CAD standard computer.
