    • RE: LayOut crashes

If the problem is on a specific page, try this:

      1. copy the content of that page and paste it to a blank page in a new document, then save it.

      2. delete that page from you original document, and remake it again - importing (copy&paste) the saved data.

This might fix it. Sometimes it worked for me.

If, as I think, your problem is that the memory gets full, you may split your document in two or more parts. 25 pages are a lot for Layout.

Have you tried it on another computer?

      Let me know.

What's the size (pixel width and height + color depth) and format (tiff, jpg, bmp, png) of the scanned stamp?
Have you tried to save the scanned image to another format and then reload it in Layout?

    • PDF output: what is the extra wireframe for?

When I export a PDF file of my LO document, after setting the view of the Sketchup refernce as 'vector', I'll obtain a fully vectorial output.

I've discovered that, if I explode manually my pdf output with a vector graphics editor, I'll find a thin coloured wireframe outline behind every face; the colour is the some of the face.

There'll be sure a reason for that, but I don't know it - I'm just ignorant about that - maybe some printers leave a small gap between the faces and these lines fill these gaps.

What I know is that this process increases the number of the edges more than two times. PDF outputs of complex models are difficult to edit, due to the huge amount of edges: my computer starts chunk 😢

You can see what I mean in the attached files.

    • RE: Texture maps disappear on update

      can it be a z-fighting problem? http://sketchup.wikia.com/wiki/Z-Fighting

Sometimes, when I close a 2d polygon, sketchup generates 2 or more faces inside it. It doesn't look as a classic z-fight, because I can't see it flickering, but when I render it or when I export it to LO the colour/texture can change.

Let's suppose that you have 2 coexisting faces: one is textured and the other is plain, untextured. While SU the textured face "stays on top" so that you can see it, it can happen that in LO the textured face goes under the other one. Then, all you can see is a flat untextured area.

    • RE: SKetch up model freezes with any modifaction!

      it works here: layout 2.1.6860

      intel core2 cpu @ 2,40 ghz
      2 gb of ram
nvidia geforce 9500 gt video card

have you checked if you have one of the basic problems (driver update, low memory, ans so on)?

did you try to repair sketchup (+layout)? If not, just re-run the installation program and choose to repair the installed version of sketchup: don't worry about your plugins. You don't need to re-install them. It might fix your problem.

    • RE: 3D Warehouse and model thieves.

      Just make a signature!

This can't prevent people to steal your model, but will reveal to the rest of the world how moroon they are 😉

Look at is my original model:

      http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/download?mid=6905db4959a92d58fe019a77cc0d0075&rtyp=lt&ctyp=other&ts=1255793176000

and this is the re-textured (badly) model of "max"

      http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/download?mid=34105c89e6db7e7c85325bd118b1f60a&rtyp=lt&ctyp=other&ts=1237065177000

I asked him to be so kind to write in the descriptiond that this is a derivative work, or at least put a link to my model.
      He didn't answer.
I reported this fact to Google, but nothing changed.

But anyone that will give a deeper look to the model, will notice that max forgot this:
      Gtwt.jpg

... and there is also a tiny vectorial signature inside it.

If the thief is so smart to delete your signature, then you can really go to the DMCA page with some solid arguments.

    • RE: Scale > can Layout can add a physical scale automatically

I can't answer you for sure, because I'm not so deep into LO, but the only scales that I've found are stored in the scrapbook collection. They don't change automatically: you have to resize them manually and re-type the correct numbers.

      Charlie, Bjanzen, Todd,

thank you all. It's clear now that this is a Sketchup bug.
I used that workaround several times, and I was tired - I'll draw only full lines and make them dashed in my dtp application. This is the fastest solution for me.

Is anyone so kind to test if this happens on other computer configurations.
I'm running LO on windows xp sp3 and will try with windows 7.

I'm just curious to know if this is a bug of LO or just a problem of my PC.

      Todd,

I've tested your manual dashes: it gives me the some problem in layout.
It's not only the pdf export that fails, but even what is displayed as vector visualization in layout.

      @jhauswirth said:

How about layering to produce what you need.
First insert the model with edges turned off and vector rendered.
Then insert the same model on top with just edges being rendered.

I've already made this with some other projects, but it is a bit annoying.

I've also tried to explode all curves, but it doesn't change the output. I thought the strange behaviour could be due to some conflict in curves with hidden and visible segments welded together.

    • RE: Resolution problem to export to PDF an A1 drawing

      hello jhauswirth,
thank you. I'll send you a pm.

the dashed lines are made with the Smustard script: they are made by alternated hidden segments and visible segments.

The funny thing is that in hybrid mode they are rendered correctly as vectors, as you can see from the zoomed image.

    • Resolution problem to export to PDF an A1 drawing

I want to export an A1 drawing to pdf, so that I can edit it with a Dtp application. It is much easier to add and edit text and special marks than in LO.

My favourite choice were to export it as vector file: there are not bitmap textures. It's all drawn with plain colours. Unfortunately, all dash-dotted lines come out ugly: either they are continuos or they simply disappear. Give a look to the vaults projections.
I've set the rendering options to high, but this doesn't solve my problem.

      The vectorial output.

If I switch to the hybrid rendering, all the lines are rendered correctly, but all the fillings are replaced with a low resolution bitmap and the result is worse than before.

      The hybrid output

      Zoom of the hybrid output.

Do you know how can I improve this? Or at least some workaround that is not too tricky?
