RE: Wipeout Le Mans 2094

I used to love wipeout 2097 on the playstation!, love to see the wires too!

RE: Model this: Accelerate sofa
right im all over this one! Good luck everybody!

RE: Render this: NPR Lighthouse
I was about to try this in my 2D PS illustrating style but after seeing this Oli immediately gave up
lol
Nah ill give it a go but seriously thats amazing! How much PP is in that compared to original render? -
RE: New Housing Estate
ha tell me about it, its always a bastard when that happens, as a general rule I always quickly highlight and copy my text before I post on any forum or email, its much worse when you have spent a decade writing and you loose it you dont have any willpower to do it all again lol!
Thanks for taking the time to do a tut most appreciated!

RE: New Housing Estate
wow im impressed im very curious as to how you created the fake clay style, is it purely a 2D output form SU and then some nifty PP or have you rendered it in some clever way and then added some more nifty PP, I would be very interested in using this style for some of my designs!
From what I cam guess you have done a render then overlayed a layer showing visible lines? -
RE: Gun test
Dont knock yourself down we all start somewhere, ive been playing around with it for years and once I learnt 3dsmax and then came back to using SU my workflow and abilities greatly improved. Just keep it up the model looks fine id suggest getting a renderer tho! try the fre version of podium to try it out!

RE: Model this: 3D Connexion Space explorer
No complex is good! it makes people think, I dont have subdivide and smooth myself so I think I could struggle on certain parts however if its ok with everybody here I can apply a sub/smooth in max or lightwave and put back into SU.
I cant wait to have a go at the next challenge! Tennis shoe sounds good! or maybe rubber yellow duck? -

I got one, I use it all the time, it is not to replace the mouse but rather to compliment it.
I use a mouse with my right hand and explorer with my left hand, together.hardcore!
wow ive been following this form the beginning and you have all done really well. the models are exceptional! Ive been using SU for years but always been put off by organics, preferring to do them in max but since joining this site and using the plugins I know its possible. Ive been too busy in uni to have a crack at this but am looking forward to the next 'Model this' as I will have got my webdeisgn out the way by the then!
Well done everybody keep up the good work!
A question to solo: The render that follows your last update what are you using for it, and are the materials applied in SU itself or in a separate program? -
RE: Gun test
looks good, im just a bit confused about how its held? I can see the trigger but no grip is it helo like a rifle of on the shoulder like a rocket launcher?
-
RE: Scifi Sketchup Modeling
Thanks, there wont be a launch vehicle its a SSTO (single stage to orbit) using the aerospike engine. Its based off the NASA/Lockheed X-33 that got cancelled. However have added some solid rocket boosters for extra lift.

RE: Scifi Sketchup Modeling
Doh!managed to delete some of my work when I upgraded to OSX 10.6 from tiger
.
Anyway the first image is what I had deleted a few days ago but since then ive rebuilt it slightly smaller but more detailed. Used marians shuttle for the basis of the second ships hull and little spaceman is by max grueter.
Working on the windows atm making them have depth and defining the frames to make them look more than just simple transparent geometry

RE: Windows/ Parallels on Mac OS
There can be a driver issue when running crossover or parallels the safest bet is to run it on bootcamp! Bootcamp will also give yo 100% or the RAM.

RE: Why not use plugins?
@unknownuser said:
This is weird, i usually get even more amazement after I say I made that with Sketchup not less.
If they think SU is so primitive why would they be less impressed with a good model and not more, it would mean it was harder to model, right?
Humans, who can understand them.
I usually get something like this "I love your work, you should move on to 3ds max or in the very least Blender".Yeah I get that also but I was using it as an example of peoples feelings towards SU, sometimes they are very odd even among my 3D peers lol, this was an example!?!!? confusing yes.
@unknownuser said:
Probably a better product...for architects, but not free, and not used by so many as it is now. Besides who knows if it would have survived this crysis period. Su now is pretty well known and that drives sales, if you look at google trends for the word Sketchup you notice a significant increase from 2006 onwards.
Yeah didnt think about it like that you are prob right!

RE: Scifi Sketchup Modeling
Thanks!
I have to laugh tho, when the render was done I looked it over and noticed all the buildings in the shipyard where floating many meters off the ground! Dont know how I managed that, they are all grouped together you see still a shame tho, oh well! -
RE: Why not use plugins?
I modelled for 3 yrs without using any plugins. Not serious work just playing about while in college. When I started getting better and posting some of my work at scifi meshes some of the other users who use SU pointed me here.
I was amazed by the range of plugins, by this time I was aquatinted with 3dsmax so knew about subdivision etc but to actually have it in SU was amazing. Haven't looked back since.
But everyone is right about google, they should include some of these plugins and more people would get involved. SU is thought of as a sub-standard package you wouldn't believe the bad press I get when I tell people I use it lol eg:%(#FF0000)[Buggy Virus | Fabled Legendary Member

To many peoples suprise I only use google Sketchup. Its a free software that anybody can use and you dont need a supercomputer to run it you should give it a spin. Ive got the pro version but the only difference is I can export to other file formats, all the actual toolsets and interfaces are exactly the same and there is nothing you cant model in the pro version you cant model in the free version.]Buggy Virus | Fabled Legendary Member
%(#FF0000)[Oh wait, these are sketch up models, I thought they were .3ds files. They are still good, I'm just not in as much awe as I was before.]
It goes on with many more examples.
I think google need to make more people aware of the plugins, after conversations ive had with people they see put off initially by SU imagining it to be the most inferior package you can get. I wonder what the story would be if @last still had it not an internet superpower.

hi pav! this sounds like a really interesting project, reminded me of something I saw recently, a project for a supposed dystopian future, built on water
http://www.interactivearchitecture.org/nicholas-szczepaniak-a-defensive-architecture.html
(aside from interesting, the renders look amazing)
those images are incredible it reminds me of the concept art for city 17 from half life 2 with the wires coming down http://knol.google.com/k/-/-/3qekwxh18g0ry/y4ur95/halflife2citadel.jpg
Keeping on focus good start on the flood shelter.

RE: SU Toolbar issues
Ahh yes I can already do that but I wanted some way of incorporating it into the toolbar itself, i also wanted to double up the bar like your on the left so i dont have to scroll on mine to get more options
oh well ill just gave to make do, thanks for your help.
-
RE: SU Toolbar issues
Well looking at your screen grab thats what I want, all the built in fictions can be put in one bar but all my plugins float uselessly around in there own boxes its a terrible mess, when im at home I dual screen so everything is tidied up but when im working out and about its a mess.
Ultimatez 32 are you saying I can double up my toolbar like you have on the left in mac if so how?
