I do browse a lot (otherwise I wouldn't be here ), but all the work is done from the hard drive, just like Miguel.
I can't imagine I would ever use ChromeOS because of that.
hopefully, sketchup doesn't become an online app .

RE: Chrome OS Source released
Isn't it just another Linux distro ?
(driver support? etc...)If all you do in chromeOS is webbased, what happens if you (temporarily) don't have internet connection?
Then your laptop becomes a useless brick ...or am I wrong? -
RE: SU to Maxwell glass facade
Well done!
Any philosophy on the nature of the graphics...or just random?(uw glas mocht wel wa dikker zijn )

RE: [Plugin] extrudeEdgesByEdges.rb
Hi TIG, I am new to this thread...somehow totally missed it.
This plugin looks awesome so I tried it.
However when activating it, it remains unresponsive.
I drew two Bezier curves, exploded each, made them into 2 groups and then used the plugin...
At the bottom of the SU screen it says "multiplying edges" but nothing happens. As soon as I start moving my mouse the text disappears but nothing was created.Am I doing something wrong?

RE: Pebbles and balls
Oh yes, that trick.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work for me using v.1.0.047 (different multiplier values).
Actually it does work, but controlling intensity is nearly impossible. -

Very nice Nomer!
What is that tip about using a blend in the environment slot? -

Sweet!!
If it's a bridge, and free then I would hope Dale has a link for us users to purchase U3D where he can get some sort of commission. It would be only fair for both him and the company as this bridge opens up a huge market for them.
If Whaat could also pay a visit to Asgvis, Next Limit and Random control, we would finally see some decent Sketchup bridges appear for the mainstream render engines.

Much like an English friend mentioned to me recently the one thing they cant ask of someone here in Australia without a raised eyebrow - "Hey mate can I bum a fag?"
You either get a reply "Man, what ever is your thing!" or ask the wrong guy and you'll be seeing stars!

RE: [Preview] UVTools 0.2
That's good enough for me
In the video the whole process seems to be working seamlessly. -
RE: [Preview] UVTools 0.2
It looks to be inside Sketchup or am I missing something here?
Great work whaat! Looks very good.
Is it going to be free?

RE: Just read this on the SUPlugins site
Good news. Really looking forward to the next Podium.

RE: [Plugin] Flatten and Extrude
Nice idea thomthom. Things are busy now, but I will try the plugin in depth at the weekend.
For architects this is extremely useful!
Now I don't have to ask the Rhino guy to do it for me and to import it in SUBy the way,
I love the CookieWare idea! Whenever you're in Australia, please drop by for a beer... -
RE: Rendering Workshop - Studio - still life
It seems to be something else. The bright bit is the reflection of the studio setup 'bowl' thing, while the dark part is the top of the HDRI,which is dark at the top.
You might want to load a different HDR or maybe make the 'studio bowl' material darker....(Never use a colour lighter than RGB 220,220,220 for any material)
Also, did you put reflection on that place mat material? If yes, lower it down.(Could also be too much 'geometry smoothing' going on on that place mat --> lower down 'soften edges')

Thanks for the improved model Solo.
A 'render tip of the week' could be: no good renders without good models. Here's my entry:

yes, i would welcome nurbs very much (though at the moment, i'm actually enjoying learning rhino and am kind of excited about fully learning a 3d app other than sketchup)
nurbs, UV mapping, more powerful surface editing and transformation tools, all of it.. i surely welcome it and think this could be a great way to distinguish between pro & free versions.. thing is, i'm ready for that stuff as i've been working with sketchup since version4 so i'm not too sure how i'd feel about it if i were just beginning.
that said, i highly doubt google is going to take SU in this direction and i'm not going to sit around complaining & waiting for it to happen while being fully aware that the tools i now need are already out there..[edit] and just to clarify my stance a little more, i think it would be very stupid for google to add -for example- subdivision capabilities to sketchup when i can't smoothly work through a model containing only 25,000 polygons without grouping & hiding etc.. same can be said for many of the plugins out there that are capable of adding to the poly count rather quickly.
I fullheartedly agree. It is a matter of 'first things first'.
Fixing what needs fixing and taking it from there. -

RE: Do you use BIM?
@unknownuser said:
We have 8 seats running now. Common phrases heard over the office chatter now are:
"Can you save to Central".
"I have placed a request, would you grant it please"Sounds familiar.
I am not using it that much myself yet (more SU) but probably will be soon.
Learning the basics for drafting in revit is quite easy. But getting to that next level where you can use it properly for BIM is a much steeper learning curve.
Setting up good sheets, controlling visibility of elements per sheet, making families,....pffft Still lots to learn.A comment I start to hear at the office is that documenting isn't that straightforward using Revit eventually because you need to pin point everything in a (too soon) phase. In early phases, you don't want to bother with the type of doors or door handles you will be using...

RE: SKindigo license policy problem
@unknownuser said:
My guess is that the current licensing scheme has less to do with 'attitude' than a certain desire to no go bust prematurely due to piracy. Furthermore, I'm quite sure that Nick and Ben, whom I know as customer friendly, didn't decide upon the current policy without due consideration.
I tend to disagree with the 'going bust' concept. (I am talking in general, not specifically about Indigo as I don't know their licensing system)
You can look at it in the opposite way. A (too) strict licensing system could push people to piracy.I purchased Vray and Fry, and to be honest, using the cracked versions of both pieces of software is tempting now.
Why? The people that download it 'for free' have all the freedom of doing with the software what they want, while the paying customers are frustrated with 'licensing procedures' and headaches when they want to use it on another computer, re-install their PC's etc...
I see a parallel with the music industry and the rise and fall of DRM copy protection. The industry ditched the DRM concept as the paying customers had more restrictions than the 'free downloaders'.If I was a developer, I would give paying customers a 'non restricted' version of the software as a bonus. That's customer service.
In a way, Piracy can contribute to growth as well.
I am pretty sure that Rhino for instance would have never gained the momentum it has now in the architectural field, without students at Uni's using cracked versions, getting really good at it, and afterwards asking the bosses of the arch firms they work for to buy it for the office.I am not saying that piracy is ok. But I think developers need to understand that they can 'manouvre' their way and turn it into a positive thing and remain lucrative in what they are doing.
By the way, most people use piracy copies to learn a piece of software or to test it to extent. Once they start using it commercially, I think most people start buying legit versions as a business can't afford getting caught having no official licenses at a software inspection. The fines are hugh!
My conclusion. Copy protection: yes! But not at the expense of paying customers.
