Nice renders. For me, the second one is the money shot.

    • RE: [Plugin] SmartPushPull v0.26 (05 nov)

      Wow, thank you a4chitect. ๐Ÿ‘

You know, I never use the default scale tool anymore as Fredo's scale (and taper) tool is much better.
Your 'smart push pull' concept has the same potential to knock the old default Sketchup PushPull out of business.
      Wonderful concept man!

I hope you will keep on working on it as this can become a life saving gem.
      Thanks again.

    • RE: Rendering Tip - Use Camera Lights

I would be careful with the use of a light at the position of the camera, unless you want to go for a cheap camera flash effect.
Speaking for myself, I never place a light directly behind the camera, because it can kill all the shadow effects.
Lights coming from the sides (diagonal) can provide more interesting shadows on floors and objects, creating a sense of depth.

Some time ago, when Maxwell got popular and computers were slow, the use of a camera light often was suggested to clear up the noise faster.
It worked as it provided more direct light into the scene but it often creates poor lighting conditions.

      @unknownuser said:

8 core xeon?16 threads? damn, that must be a monster render machine kwist ๐Ÿ‘ฟ
And the cheap xeons you found were on a macpro?that's strange...here that would be impossible. But hey i'm in a country (Portugal) where the new iphone 32Gg costs 889,90 euros (1 314.04 USD)!! for an overpriced and obsolete phone?!?!that's crazy...

No, two quadcore Xeons which make a 8 core together.
And for me, yes that was the best value for money.
I would assemble a normal PC myself , but when it comes to a workstation, the components are less likely to be compatible, so I decided to go for a 'out of the box' solution.
When you compare Apple to HP or even Dell workstations, it was surprisingly the good thing to do.

    • RE: The computer that's number one in consumer satisfaction

      I don't like Apple.
      Overhyped, toy looking etc...

But fact is that my desktop is a MacPro. At the time (a year ago) the best value for money for a double Xeon rig (8 cores).
Very solid built, still very fast and a joy to work on.

Never ever used MacosX on it though, always Windows through Bootcamp.
I am pretty sure my next desktop will be a MacPro again. The Nehalem Xeons have my interest, but I think I'll wait for the next gen next year....

I don't care about the version of Windows. Every version seems the same to me.As long as things are compatible, I'm fine with it.

    • RE: SKindigo license policy problem

I am happy the license system is getting changed.
One and a half year ago I bought Fryrender and they had an IP adress based licensing system as well.
Since then I changed PC's 3 times and I use a Laptop as well.

Somehow it doesn't feel like you purchased the software as you can't move it from one PC to the other as you please, even though I would be the only one working on those computers.

I was never able to transfer a model from the desktop to laptop or vice versa to continue working and that is just unpleasant.
As a result, I abandoned using the software because of that, as it just killed my appetite.

Piracy is one thing, and developers trying to overcome this is legit, but it definitely has a negative impact on the people who buy the software.

At times, you'd want to buy and pay for legit software and then get a craked pirat copy of the same program from the net, just to avoid the licensing hassle.
I know it is not done, but since you paid for it....

      Sexy sink!

The red is striking and it doesn't put you at ease.
Perfect for a big family where they fight to get bathing time. You won't spend more time there than necessary ๐Ÿ˜„.

      Nice render.
The wooden door is a bit off...not sure if it is the render or a 'faux pas' in the concept. It looks like it belongs to another bathroom.

    • RE: BONZAI 3D RELEASED

I remember from the older Bonzai thread that there were quite a few bugs that crashed the software. Have these been resolved?
The fact that there seems to be open communication about development is a major plus so I will be keeping my eyes on Bonzai.
Also, the NURBS and freeform tools invite me to have a look.
Perhaps Bonzai-to-Sketchup could be a good workflow to be able to keep on using the mainstream render engines....

To my feeling this thread belongs to the Gallery section and not here... but let's play.

Lit by two big vertical planes left and right, one with a warm emitting material, one with a somewhat colder emitting material.
The ground surface curves up towards the background.

      Thanks for the help.
I think either skin22.rb or blend.rb will do for now.
Hopefully the Loft.rb will be further developed so it can loft between closed polylines as that seems impossible for now (only open curves seem to work).
I might try it in Rhino to get it right later on.

      Thanks Massimo,
I already have the skin22 in my plugins folder but somehow it never worked. I enabled it in the Preferences panel...but the skin ruby never appeared as icons nor in the tools/plugins menu. A lot of people seem to have trouble with it.

    • RE: [Plugin] Simple Loft alpha 0.1b -- UPDATED May-15-09

This is what the blend.rb spits out (starting curves are slightly different than above).
It looks ok, but I am not sure if the newly generated blend surface follows the shortest distance between the two polylines.
I would like to see it connected independant from the curve's existing control points (skin?) .Does that make sense?
