i like your escher image a lot, eric, glad you mentioned it because, as i am new here, (my first message/upload was a few days ago)there is a lot i have missed.

RE: Impossible perspective
thanks again for the nice comments.
thanks for the link too - i like this one a lot - especially because it proves that i am not the only daft person in the world -
RE: Welcome to the forum!
looks good gaieus.
i posted a thread 'amsterdam buildings' in the sketchup gallery - they are 16th/17th century buildings, would they fit into this forum? should i repost them here? -
RE: Impossible perspective
thanks a lot, it was not only a challenge, it was fun too!

RE: Impossible perspective
this is what the original model in sketchup looks like without any adjustment.

RE: Impossible perspective
thanks to all
@baz: i know about the people, but this was because of the challenge to do the image, so i did not care about the people and other props.@jon: i would not mind, but i don't know how and where to put it - it's a 3,8 mb file
@remus: to be honest, it gave me a headache too - it took me a fourtnight working on it to get it right. yes, i will try to make some more escher drawings in sketchup, but i don't promise results - it is quite difficult. (i am working on two different escher images at the moment, but neither is publishable)

Impossible perspective
m.c. escher's impossible drawings have always fascinated me, so i tried to make one of his drawings, 'relativity' in sketchup - it took me quite some time to figure out how to model it in sketchup. i could do it almost completely but had to distort the perspective of the tower on the right a little in a vectors prog to make it right. as people are not my strong point i left them out.

RE: Comic strip in sketchup
thanks fletch, i will certainly try that. fact is i worked for the greater part with kt 'from the box' so to speak - many of the terms are absolutely gibberish to me
recently i uploaded the newest version of kt which looked graphically great but was (to me) so confusing that i put the old version back next to this one. now i look up what i did in the old version and try to find how to manage that in the new one (this way i found my way back to make something transparent ) -
RE: Comic strip in sketchup
hello, kim
what is CG?
these are not meant to be photorealistic renders - i just used kirkythea to get the image looking like i want and not as a screencapture of sketchup.
i am new to rendering and don't know much about it - just trying to learn to use the prog, which is very complicated to me - given time i will learn something more, i hope. -
Comic strip in sketchup
the scenes of this comic strip were modeled in sketchup, rendered in kerkythea and postworked in photofiltre (texts and composition).

RE: Amsterdam buildings
thanks a lot guys.
i read in an other thread here that renders should not be posted in this one, but this image is just to show what the above image looks like when rendered in kerkythea, partially in answer to dylan's remarks.
as an extra i added a 2d image made from the original.
please tell me if i am out of line.

RE: Amsterdam buildings
thanks, remus & dylan.
@dylan: these are just quick and dirty screenshots directly from sketchup - when rendered with kerkythea and properly set up it looks different. yes i am planning to make several blocks of buildings from the same neighbourhood.
by the way: the textures and colours are also 'out of the box' - these can be improved too to make it even more realistic. -
Amsterdam buildings
this is my first post although i have been around in silence for some time already. at the moment i am trying to model old buildings in amsterdam as close to the real thing as possible.
this is the corner of prinsengracht/brouwersgracht. these are screenshots directly from sketchup.
i started using 3d/sketchup some 1 1/2 years ago. other 3d progs were too complicated for me.

RE: Units changed from metres to feet
thanks, gaieus, i did not know about changing it other than in 'preferences' - still surprised how it happened as i did not change anything - well, problem is solved anyway, must be a computer thing

Units changed from metres to feet
could someone help me please. i always use metres as units, but somehow they suddenly changed to feet/inches - when i look in preferences it still says 'metres' - no matter what i do i cannot change it back. i tried different units, but that had no effect. i use sketchup free 6.
