holy cow there are only saint moralists...
Is only one reason why I tried full version, I needed export into 3ds properly, I thought that plugin exports were less professional, but I was mistaken. Embedded paid 3ds export makes the same issue (edges are not smoothed like in SK)

You absolutely didn't catch the clue if your answers aim only to my piracy, instead of the main point.

tell me what new will be in SKetchup 2016 version.... improved ruby console? Or maybe 128 bit support... oh yes, ... perfect reason why to waste money for another buying...

      🤣

well, this is probably my last comment here, regarding my previous post where I did a mistake -: there should be "I didnť play" a 'l' is missing, of course 😒

so - Never say Blender again! - I tried it, and my opinion it is exactly opposite to the sketchup absolutely misserable user interface.

Yes my requested features can be done through Plugins. And yes, plugins make SK 150% better. So why did I link this topic with Trimble? Because I have just feeling (my private opinion) that Trimble uses SK just to gain many new paid users, and SK is for them just a tool of earning money.

What is difficult to agree with fact that there is practically no difference between 2013-15? Meanwhile there are to many words about new versions and empty words - its just advertising.

Those minor improvements cannot overlay the 4 year of idleness.
Wanted say that with Google the things would go in different way, and more usable for us.
Are here a normal people, or am I talking just to Trimble and SKetchucation employees, who must agree with official way.. ?

      JQL:
Layout? tell me who uses this? (But I understand that architects and only building makers do)
64 Bit - OK, I can accept this is valuable, but with Ruby console those are "hidden" changes.
warehouse is nothing to need for my life..

      David:
I use paid version (but to bo honest - didn't pay )

      Pbacot:
OK, I understand that SK was designed for building making at first, BUT - and this is a BIG BUT, I DON't want to continue in developing this software ONLY in this very specific and profiled users.
BECAUSE, I love SKetchup and this soft has some unique and great tools and interface, that it would be very pitty to focus only for making houses.

I use SKetchup for Game assets, and a lot of my friends as well, because in many ways it is better for use than high profi maya, 3ds or cinema. And we all would like to see some missing features and tools to be able make my models only in SKEtchup without cooperation with other programs, like before.
And this is why I also based this topic, I can see that Trimble heads this software ONLY to the architect tool, and I ask why, when it is here a BIG potential to make it a complex tool. - ANd I add - Still remaining easy and "light"...

    • RE: Sketchup is better than Maya

      Better?

in user interface and the way you work - absolutely !
in joy and happiness when you create in Sketchup - definitly

because Maya is heavy, and we must say powerful, that's true, but you cannot enjoy the work as with the SKetchup. Its boring, difficult, and enjoyless. Maya is software from the old school. It is heavy and difficult in vain.

Sketchup is new, light, easy to learn and happy to make. Looks awesome and is for everybody.

Thaťs the point which I totaly prefer, so my final conclussion is: Yes Sketchup is better ! 😍

      HI all Sketchup friends,

I would liek to ask you if you have the same feeling as me, that Sketchup under Trimble didn't come with anything better.

It is already few years and what changed? Firstly they made icons worse-looking, then they changed the warehouse style and that's all!

They realease New versions each year "as on the conveyor belt" but if you wanna find what is new, it is almost impossible. Yes, they improved ruby console, they improved other things and added new arc tool. Other warehouse improvements and again remade websites interface. Again to make it bigger, with longer loading times, and it's harder to find something. Warehouse is slower and searching for plugins is even like the true hell.

Yes Sketchup was high product from Google, so some could say there is nothing to improve. But I would appreciate some new features, ... like profi UV tools, and texturing workflow, Inbuilt exporting to obj with maintaining the edges smoothing (softened), and so on.

I am sad that Sketchup was sold to Trimble, Under Google we could have now much MUCH BETTER product, than it is. Because actaully i really don't see any differences between SKetchup_8, 2013, 14 and 15.

Do you see that in the same way?..

    • RE: [Plugin] ZbylsXExporter (1.3) - 23 January 2013

      Hi Zbyl,

Thanks a lot for this plugin.

But I have a question. I tried export my model in many ways (with or without UV help, alternative coord. etc..) But in no case I got the correct model. Here belongs that I export in direct X - .x file, and the textures are messed up all the times.

Is there any help? or plugin update? Thank you!

PS: And the second note is this: The plugin doesn't work for model opened from directories which have in the name comma, or other non standard symbols. (My folder is called C:/3d models/cd749, 721/model.skp
So I have been searching the fault for the long time to realize that the comma in the folder name is the problem. So already solved, I changed the folder name. (Yes this is the minority, but the first issue I would like to fix)

      Well:

I tried create very new skp file
      Applied two textures
and the second one (= the last one) is again invisible in game !!

This never happened before, so something must be wrong with my Sketchup or 3DradExporter !!

Does anybody know how to fix it?

      Thanks for helping! Kaja

    • RE: SU to Xfile using 3Drad problem

      I got it!

      Now listen to me:
The problem is always with the last texture applied on the model. When I open exported file.x I see there textures I applied. The very last one is always such which is invisible in game. In my cases for the first lamp it was the black color for strip, for the second lamp it was the shining glass with bulb.

Finally some order in the mess !!!

Now is question why it happened?
I have this problem only with this one skp file, where I have both models. Maybe this file is somehow broken? I didnt try to export with another new skp file yet.

Here is my second lamp, here is the problem with bottom face with bulb. When I use there default material (without texture) the face is visible in game, and model is correct. Why with texture not?

      Here are images.
Model in sketchup with textures and with monochrome view.
The last is from game, you can see the black strips are not there.

      http://s5.postimage.org/5spppfyrb/image.jpg

      http://s5.postimage.org/gtkuugr07/image.jpg

      http://s5.postimage.org/qfefari5z/image.jpg

Note: The errors began yesterday evening, in one moment I noticed that Sketchup didnt plot model correctly. WHen I had shaded_view it displayed some faces without textures then it blinked and the screen refreshed and then it was ok, And I sad to myself, what was that?

I use my PC now with weaker power supply, so is it possible that worse power can cause errors when exporting model?

Once I made the whole model in one group and then exported. The black strips were visible and OK, But the bottom face of the lamp (the Bulb) was wrong instead. (invisible)

THere is one thing: The game works with flipped YZ planes, so my exported model is flipped by game, as you can see on the direction of strips. But I thing the problem is with export, because as I sad it depends on each exporting, how the result is.

    • SU to Xfile using 3Drad problem

      Hello,

I absolutely don't know what am I doing wrong.??

      PLEASE HELP 😞

I make some models for my game. I made a lot of them already. So I have certain knowledge.

But my last model makes me crazy. I export 3d Sketchup file into X file using 3Drad Exporter plugin. As usual. But when opening in game: some faces are invisible.

Yes I know I know, all faces before exporting I have front-sided. I have checked it multiple-times!
That's the weird thing! So I tried it second time. Again the same faces are invisible (it means - my exported model has some faces back sided. They are invisible in game)

For the third time I copied my model into new Sketchup file. Again everything seems to be correct, all faces fronted, well. Its time to export and open in game. Now - different faces are invisible, some are repaired and some are new wrongly. Hey! this is beyond my perception of reality!!!!

Well, I made 4. 5. 6. ... 26. attempts. And each time something is wrong.

So I reinstalled Sketchup. - without changes.
So I tried remake the faces which are invisible in game - without changes.

It is sooooo weird, because I made a lot of models and never I had such problems ?!?!?!
Does anybody know what lies in ? Any ideas?

      well,

and avoid them, probably means working with curves with less segments, does it?

and if I keep this face, can I correct it somehow?

    • RE: How to fix this ?

SO it looks like is better to work with much bigger model. Should I take this as general suggestion for Sketchup work?

because this little "wrong appearances" I sometimes notice by small and curved faces, and without knowing why.

    • How to fix this ?

      Hello,

time by time Sketchup creates faces with errors.

This rounded corner I created by Round corner plugin. Before I extruded face of roof and scaled to little bevel on sides. On this beveled roof I applied plugin to round corner. In Sketchup everything looks correct, even with hidden geometry turned on. See the picture.

      http://s5.postimage.org/deeqrc2bb/obloukske.jpg

But when I use this model in game, it appears such "errors" Applying texture doesn't matter.

see picture how it looks in game:

      http://s5.postimage.org/uqf3crvsn/oblouk.jpg

Does anybody know, what causes this? And how to fix it? Is there any tool to fix or clean?
Or any advices how to avoid this during modeling?

Thank you very much for your answers,

      Karel

PS: Yes all my faces are front-sided 😡

And the top left corner is also bad, when I import it into game, the faces are in these places darkened even with textures, Why, and how to correct this?
