thanks Jim. That seems so simple i feel like a twit.
I think i was trying to select the vertice first.
thanks

Moving points
Hi Im returning to sketchup after not using for some time.
One thing im not sure that i ever figureed out is how to move points around.
I am doing some GE modeling. I trace a shape on the ground to push/pull. Though if i need to edit that shape before i push/pull how can i move individual points. It seems i can only move the whole shape or the contained lines not individual points/vertices.

RE: Best tool for cutting terrain.
thanks again Gaieus.
I have actually used that plugin before so will investigate. -
RE: Best tool for cutting terrain.
I should make clear that this being terrain, it is not a flat plane.

Best tool for cutting terrain.
HI
I wish to simulate the digging of a trench on some textured terrain that has been snapshot from google earth.
I am not yet aware of which tool i should be using to cut into the terrain to create the longitudinal void needed for the trench.
Any ideas. Sandbox tools? -
RE: Using Colour Imagery on GE terrain snapshots.
thanks again Gai. You totally rock the casbah.
I still have the issue when i replace the image on the snapshot material it does not match well. It seems to change the scaling by an increase of approx 20%.
My work around is to File -> Import image...use as texture.
and apply to the snapshot and then use the technique that you described below.
When you (or anyone else) do the image swap do you get an exact match (ie B&W-->colour) of textures as would be expected?
You would expect this as they are the same image size and aspect ratios.
anyway sorted for now but still not as seamless as i would imagine.
thanks again. -
Using Colour Imagery on GE terrain snapshots.
Hi
I am trying to retexture some GE terrain with colour imagery that i captured screen shot at the same time i did the terrain.
Its seems that the software is engineered to make this difficult to do. ie why do they just have B&W GE snapshots in the first place?
Does any one know a way around this. I have tried but the multifaced nature of the terrain seem to make it difficult to apply a new image.
I even went to far as to replace the image in the temp directory (where the b&w images are stored) with an image of exactly the same dimensions. It applied but the mapping / positioning was out enough to make it useless.
This should be a simple procedure to fix but i have been trying for ages to retexture and just cant do it. Restricted??
Any Hints....I think i hear the footsteps of Gaeius ... -
RE: How to scatter many trees / components
component spray tool. i haven't tried it yet but the reviews seem to be good.

How to scatter many trees / components
Hi i wish to spread a large amount of trees as components across a scene.
Im hoping to use maybe 5 original types as the basis for creating a large (eg 200) amount of components across the scene.
Is there a plugin / utility that allows me to do such a thing.
Ideally it would have a random scale, rotation as well.
thanks -
RE: Duplicate models in GE
I was also wondering if this can be done in GE without using SU.
If i have to use SU does the use of the component keep the file size to a minimum within GE? -
Duplicate models in GE
Hi I wish to place 5 copies of a model within GE. The model would be exactly the same except for rotated at different angles (ideally)
Is there a way that i can use just one copy and have an instance (3dsMax terminology) or componenet (SU) of this model reference the original model. The model is 4 meg so and i need to place it 5 times. So rather than have a 20 Meg download i would prefer to have the 4 Meg download referenced 5 times.
thanks -
GE Terrain Swap
Hi I am wondering if there is a way to turn off portions of the google terrain and imagery within GE so as to replace with terrain / imagery that i have created.
I am wanting to recreate a historical construction sequence simulation for Sydney CBD (1788-1820) and have this be available to view in GE. As in most cities terrain has been heavily engineered over time away from what was "natural"
I am envisaging a number of ways of doing this (in order of preference)- Turn off terrain / imagery tiles within GE and have them replaced by my terrain / imagery tiles.
- Float the whole new image and terrain set above the existing one. Will look a bit suspect but is the most feasible at the moment.
I know that i can overlay an image in GE but I would ideally like to change the terrain as well.

Time attributed models in google earth.
I worked out recently that I can edit a KML file in a text editor.
I took an existing time attributed model, right clicked in GE on the object within the places tab?? (big panel on left) copied then opened a text editor and pasted. The kml code is then pasted in.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<kml xmlns="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:gx="http://www.google.com/kml/ext/2.2" xmlns:kml="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">
<Document>
<name>KmlFile</name>
<TimeSpan>
<begin>1969</begin>
<end>1997-00</end>
</TimeSpan>
<Style id="sn_ylw-pushpin80">
</Style>
(etc etc)
I then did exactly the same thing with an existing model i had created that i wanted to attribute with time. I then copy and pasted the <TimeSpan> ....</TimeSpan> into my model's kml making sure it was placed in the same position as the original (is this important?). Obviously you can edit the dates. I then saved the kml into x directory and then loaded it. The time slider loaded based upon the dates entered.The next step i would like to do is to attribute objects (eg construction components) in sketchup and export to GE. From the looks of the code each kml can only have one date stamp (i wonder if it can come on and off then on again??). If i had individual objects that i wanted to display with a different date series (eg walls - start july finish august, roof start august finish december) these would have to be different kmls right. I know there is an attribute editor in sketchup which might come in handy. But as far as i know you can only export the whole file as a kmz ((ie one kml.) and not (eg selected) components. Im sure a work around for this exists eg save as, delete wont you dont want, and export as individual kml. Can you think of an easier way?
Can we export multiple time attributed objects from one sketchup model into one kmz?
We are working with a SU plugin called 4D virtual builder. I would like to be able to export this into GE.

Keeping lines flat
Hi There.
I am drawing lines with the Bezier Spline script. I need these lines to be completely flat as i will 'follow me' after with a shape.
I find that the line is often not flat.
the best way i can think to flatten the line is to scale it down in the z axis (up and down)
What is the best way to flatten the line or to make sure it is drawn flat?
thanks
