The .vob files (native Vue object files) exported from Sketchup do not auto-update when changed but it's a good idea. I will make the suggestion to the developers.

That would be great Dave. Thanks.

You can always use the VuePython script that is generated (in the folder next to the exported model with the textutes) to make importing faster and more automated.

I do use the VuePython script initially... it works great! I use the .vob files when I need to update a part of the model in a scene that I have already been working on in Vue. The auto update would only save a few steps, so it is not a big deal. The only time it is a big issue is if I have replaced a bunch of materials in Vue... updating the model means redoing all of that... I only noticed the material editor in version 2 of the exporter a few days ago. I think that might solve some of those problems... now I just need some time to play with it. ๐Ÿ˜„

      Thanks for the help!

    • Sketchup & Vue - Auto Object Update

I use the Sketchup to Vue exporter to bring my models into Vue and often find myself making changes to the original model. I then re export the model from sketchup... go back into the Vue file and us the "Replace by" option. This works ok, unless I have replaced materials or added an ecosystem to a site or something... in which case these get replaced.

I think I can fix that by using the material editor that was added in version 2... I just have not had time to play with that.

I have read that objects should auto update if the where imported... My experience with Vue started with the Sketchup plugin so I have never need to save as .obj files.

Is there any way to get the .vob files that are created from the exporter to auto update if changed?

      Thanks for any help.

    • RE: [NEW]Sketchup 2 Vue

So I managed to get the links feature to work...

If I save it as a obj. file and then import it to Vue it shows up in the Links tab. I can then save it to my library as a .vob file. After going back and updating it in SU and re-saving the obj. file Vue informs me the file has changed and asks me if I want to update it.

So shouldn't this also work with the .vob file that is created with the SU to Vue exporter?

    • RE: [NEW]Sketchup 2 Vue

I've got a question about syncing objects between SU and Vue.

Is there a way to set things up so that the models exported from SU to Vue would update if the original SketchUp model was modified. I don't believe there is a way to link the sketchup file, but I have read that there is a synchronizing feature that should allow you to update modified objects.

So far I have been opening the .vob file created from the exporter and then saving the model as an object into my Vue library. Then I have access to it in Vue for any of my scenes. This is were the question came up... if I use it in a scene and then decide to modify it a bit, do I need to reopen it in Vue, overwrite it in the library and reload/replace it in the scene. Is there not a way for this to update itself... I even tried to just overwrite the object in the library and see if it would update once the scene was reopened but that did not seem to work either.

So when does the synchronizing of objects apply... is that only for certain file types of programs?

      Thanks for any thoughts.

That was it. Thanks for the help Gaieus! Can't believe I did not check that. Not sure why it was on one minute and off the next. Oh well. Thanks again.

    • RE: Missing Lines?

It is right on the origin.

The problem is just with the site... I modeled the site as a separate file and then copied and pasted it into the file with the building component. Everything was fine in the original site model so I thought maybe it was the copy and paste. So I imported the file in and it worked... since then I have been working on the model and while changing something on the site it did it again and the lines that were there are now missing. If i try to redraw then on the edge of the plane the still do not appear, but I did find that if I draw a line over the missing line and just past were it would stop it brings it back. So I get the original line and the extended piece... so the lines are there but not showing up.

      thanks for the help.

    • Missing Lines?

I am having some trouble with lines showing up. I don't think I have ever had this problem before... it is probably something simple and I am going to kick myself when some one figures it out. I attached a couple of images to help communicate the issue. The planes are there and some of the lines show up but others do not. It causes some of the model to disappear when I am in the Hidden Line style. Any help would be much appreciated.

      Thanks!
