This is a great portfolio. I love the look of however they transpose over each other in every page except the third one. This page is pretty difficult to look at...which is a shame because I remember that render from the forum which is great. I am not sure how you can improve that page but I think something needs to be done with it so it compliments the work and doesn't distract from it.

RE: HMY britannia 1893 (WIP)
Thanks for the encouragement!
The hull has been the hardest for me so far. I tried a great deal of plug ins to try to get the contours right and in everycase it just didn't look right. So I have been hand stitching it. Which is alot on an approx. 100 ft hull. I started by building a few framing ribs and using arch and bezier curves to get it close. I then stitch between them. Once I had the hull close I began using fredoscale on areas of arch to start scaling areas to begin to form the shape. This has been very time consuming but rewarding. There is an area where I am actually redoing it for the third time to reduce the geometry. So I will be working on that a few strakes at a time so I don't get too bored or frustrated with it. Then I will just continue to work on other details. So I am learning alot.
And Roger I have to say thank you because it was your cannon that really inspired me to try this. So this should be fun. Take forever...but fun.

RE: HMY britannia 1893 (WIP)
Ok. Just got these resized. A start on the decking and refining the hull shape. The top four strakes are now contoured correctly. I haven't trenailed the deck yet and or have I finished the railing yet. So eventually the grain will be placed correctly and it will have all the proper jointing. But that is for another day.

RE: More and less Black & White
As a fellow interior designer I have to say that that is a spectacular design. Thank you for sharing this. It's beautiful!
Hope you get the job!

HMY britannia 1893 (WIP)
Well I have been spending time watching everyone doing amazing models of these they enjoy...I felt perhaps it was time to try to do the same. Normally I just do work for school or clients, which I enjoy, however I sorta wanted to play. One of my passions is history and the age of sail. I have never sailed in my life but I find it is absolutely majestic. So since I have been unable to set up my tools and continue building this vessel in wood (I'm about a third of the way done building it IRL) I thought it I would attempt to build it in sketchup. A perfect model to try to learn organic modeling. So as I have time I will show progress here and there. These first ones are getting the general hull contour worked out so it is accurate and beginning the deck. I will be fine tuning this contour as I go.
Hope you enjoy!

RE: SU 7.1 - Free version - IMPORT DFX/DWG ???
I know this may seem like a silly question but what file do I put this in? Plugins?
I can't seem to figure out where it should go or how to import a dwg file. I assumed it would be in the import selection. Help!
Thank you

RE: Ray Ochoa- My Car WIPs and final renders
I have been sorta lurking in your post for a bit now but never commented before. Unbelievable progress in your modeling. Your first work was nice when you started but it has progressed to amazing. I could see any of your latest works being concepts at the autoshow. In fact...you should think about that. Could be a cool render. Several of your cars displayed in an autoshow setting. Could be very cool!

haha hay watu think of this car. i think its missing something any ideas(im thinking stripes)
Beautiful model...in my opinion it doesn't need stripes. If it is missing anything it would be just small detail work...small rounded panel gaps, window weather stripping, perhaps slightly darker color in the rotor vents, and projecting a seamless carbon fiber texture on the lower trim and the mirrors. All very little things that will add that little extra but they are just that, extras. The model is great without it.

Wood materials.
Hello everyone. I almost forgot about this...wanted to share it with everyone here. Nice selection of wood materials. Hope someone finds it a helpful site.

RE: What is it?
Oh ya...here is a nice high res mahogany material if you are looking for one. May need some post pro but that would be easy for you. http://www.dackor.com/colors/422-3018_Mahogany_Large.JPG

RE: What is it?
That will be beautiful. Will you do all the caps, bolts, etc in the same material (brass?) as you have done with the cannon itself? That would look spectacular.
Thanks for posting a pic with cannon together. It looks great!

RE: Escher
Yep...it was the shadow for me as well. If the shadow had not been in the first picture I think I might of been perplexed still.

RE: Texture wrapping?
@numbthumb said:
Glad I could help. Although that video is about texture projecting, not wrapping ( as far as I can remember ).
Nevertheless, nice model indeed!
Cheers!Well...ok...projecting then. Regardless, you helped me learn about wrapping and projecting. Neither of which I understood before so thank you. It was exactly what I was looking for.

Alright...I think I figured it out but wow did my eyes get messed up looking at it. Very cool.
Great, post your picture
haha. I didn't actually try to build it. I just kept looking at your model and the photo of your inspiration photo. And I mentioned that I "think" I figured it out...not sure if I am any where close to be right or not.

RE: What is it?
This may be worth a look as well. This is from the woodworking forum. http://www.veneeronline.com/home.aspx Although it may be best to look into lumber reuse companies. They may have photos of nice reclaimed textures. Just an idea.
