Jeff, if I laughed at your comment would that make me a Jolly Roger?

Seriously thanks for that little tidbit of history about chocks vs leveling screws. I thought the screw was just a technology upgrade over the chock, but what yo say makes perfect sense.

I have to come up with a better texture for the gun carriage. The engineered wood look lacks historical accuracy.

Was the carriage indeed bare wood? Most commonly they were painted. Does it still exist? Do you have photos of it now? It would be interesting to see.

    • RE: AERO-SPACE DRAWING

LOL. I was just kidding you. I was merely refering to your amazing attention to detail. I just found it funny that you decided to work on an amazing aircraft and partway through...you nonchalantly say "oh ya...by the way I was playing around with this too." And it is just as nice as the other model. Thats all...just remarking on that not only are you modeling great aircraft, but helicopters, trains, etc.

      Thanks again sharing your work!

    • RE: Texture wrapping?

Alright numbthumb. This is what you helped me with. I know the leather texture is off but I just threw it on to give an idea until I know exactly what leather I am going to use when I build it. The wood is what you helped me figure out.

      Thanks a ton!

AHHH HAAA! You just made my day numbthumb. That youtube video you posted in that link is exactly what I needed. I will post a pic as soon as I apply my textures just to show you what you have helped me with.

      Thank you so much numbthumb!

    • RE: Mayor's house ( Before and after )

I personally like the first roof better...although it just seems too new. Perhaps just by aging the shakes by greying them would make a huge difference in feel. Maybe a little green moss on a few of the shake's edges as well. I think the model looks great...that is the only thing that jumps out at me.

    • Texture wrapping?

Ok. I know there is an easy way to do this but I can't seem to find it in the forums. Although I know it has to be here somewhere. Is there an easy way to to wrap a texture around a complex curved surface?

I appreciate any direction anyone can give me here. Seems I have spent more time searching the forum than actually modeling. πŸ˜„

      Thank you.

Wow dolphus. Is there anything you can't model? One of these days I almost expect to open up this forum and see you decided to built an aircraft carrier bolt for bolt as just a little something different. πŸ˜‰

Should I build the castle, seawall, ocean and ships in the distance?

Perhaps just a merchantman in the offing under the battery with a english frigate in wait with the battery under its lee. Of course with a high sea. Just kidding Roger. The model is amazing enough the way it is, I can't wait until it is together!

Oh on a side note...you have an elevating screw because batteries didn't have to deal with the swell of the sea. John's Endeavour has chock's (wedges) for it's long guns because it made for fast barrel adjustment under the rise and fall of the sea. This would be common on all ships carrying long guns. The exception would be carronades which was a short stout ship cannon that was extremely powerful but incredibly inaccurate. So these would also use an elevating screw. If you already knew this you can just tell me to shut up πŸ˜‰

Well you have inspired me...It may just be time for me to play with something on the historic side instead of just work. Beautiful piece Roger. I will be following your progress.

Yep...I agree. Cars are a way of adding selling the idea of a space being welcoming and people are there. Your images are plenty welcoming enough without them. It helps renders for many people...in your case your renders are so good by themselves you absolutely don't need them. I also think the people you use in yourwork, work perfect for your watercolor style.

Always a joy to see your work.

When you buy a scripΕ‘t at Smustard, you are sent a link where you can always re-download the purchased plugin.

IMO those plugins should just be all right copied from the old plugins folder however. Note that some require other scripts to run as well as many comes with other files placed in a subfolder under plugins. You need to copy those subfolders, too.

Thank you. I forgot about that. Its gonna take some digging back in time to try to find that email though. 😲 Hopefully I can find it with my search.

I will try to see if I can figure out what other scripts i'm missing on the other ones. Thank you gaieus. If I can't find the other scripts I will just redownload them.

    • RE: Loading rubies

Alright I just redownloaded fredo's bz rubie set and that now works so it seems that it may have to do with me reloading files I took off my old computer. This will be no big issue for everything else since I can just redownload them however I don't want to rebuy subdivide and smoove. Any ideas on perhaps what files should be where? Perhaps I just have them mixed up somehow.

      Thank you.

    • Loading rubies

Alright...I am having an issue and I was wondering if I could ask for alittle help. On my old computer I had several rubies setup in sketchup. I remember loading them without any issues. Well I have been using a new computer for a bit now but I never loaded the rubies in. I have a few extra minutes while I have a project rendering and I thought I would load them back up. Well...I am having absolutely no luck. Nothing is loading. I have placed subsmooth, bz, fredoscale, among others in my plugin file (unzipped) and I just get errors while loading sketchup. ex. Error Loading File ZLoader__FredoScale.rb
No such file to load -- LibFredo6.rb. The files are there...just won't load. What might I be doing wrong? I am unable to use any rubies I load in.

Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I have looked through the forums and can't find any answers.

    • Exotic hardwood floors

Hello everyone. I am involved in interior design and BR111 is a supplier of exotic hardwood floors. The reason I mention this is because they have stunning visual product details however I don't know myself how to make them into materials since they are flash. However if someone knows a trick how I will give the website so everyone can use the resource. Seems it would help anyone and everyone that is looking for amazing materials.

http://www.br111.com/#/main If anyone makes materials from these please share with everyone.

      Enjoy!

    • RE: Another rainy day...

I really like the rendering of the second one but I love the third one. Sometimes there is just no substitute for a watercolor. Just seems to fit the model's feel. Just seems like a place where everybody knows everybody and nobody needs to lock their cars when they go inside.

      Thanks for sharing these.

Let's change subject...I did this scene some months ago, but I'd got troubles with the steel brush mapping, now I believe it works somehow

Nice! I think the brushed metal works very well. I don't have any place giving critic because I am not anywhere near the level that you are but I will say this anyway. Just because I have seen enough of your work to think you could do it pretty easy. The plug on the usb seems too perfect. (If that makes any sense.) For some reason my eye keeps getting drawn to it. Perhaps too smooth...not sure. It is just such a great render its a shame to be distracted by it. But like I said...I certainly couldn't anything like this...so what the hell do I know. πŸ˜‰

      Love it!

Beautiful renders as always solo. You are one of those modelers that I always get excited to what you will come up with next. I can only hope to be half as good as you are someday.

However...it appears that you have been too busy modeling and have neglected your drink. Looking a little watered down. Drink up sir...its st paddy's day.

Thanks for sharing your work again solo.
