soooo - i'm not getting this.
i created an infinite plane - applied my texture to the infinite plane. hit render - nothing.
andy - can you explain the 8"=.125 ?
thanks

sorry for the late response. actually - the wooden model walking is the only 3d element. the remainder is an hdri. the slight shadow beneath the model was post via photoshop.
Nvil, also known as VoidWorld looks interesting - anyone use this yet?
oh and hey - i'm sure there's going to be the obvious reply that sketchup 'is' that software. maybe in being more honest - low poly isn't entirely my goal - just a cost benefit i thought.
affordable sculpting package then?
i've been modeling some stage setups and have been using '3d people' as props. there have been some scenarios in which i wish i could slightly alter the rigging of the people props.
then it occurred to me - is there a software program out there at reasonable cost where you could model, adjust as needed and export back to sketchup? lo-poly is okay with me - assuming it will probably be more affordable.
thanks in advance!

oh and regarding the spheres. my approach would be to increase the number of segments when creating your sphere - providing a smoother surface. an arc with about 48 segments is what i generally use for a fairly adequate smooth surface. hope that helps!
alright. some minor clarification.
panixia - i'm trying to understand 0,01 values. is that referring to (0 for both u/v repeat) and (0.1 for both u/v offset)?
also, the example you provided is a decreased value. am i actually needing to decrease my values in order to create a larger texture/pattern?
ATLAStudio - concerning perlin texnoise maps. should i adjust it to match the u/v repeat sizes? or does that not matter?
sorry for my confusion!
wow! that's exactly the intended look that i was trying to sort.
thanks to all!
i imported a native 'sea water' material and would like to increase the texture. i would like to exaggerate the current default map - where the 'ripples/bump' will appear larger in scale.
cheers -

so interesting - with regards to the faces. i've developed a bad habit of painting both sides, which i think was the case with this particular model. that should stop - as in this example, which i'm uncertain and now riddled with a problem..
and it didn't occur to me that the increased intensity was the issue. i just assumed there would be some basic illuminations from the get-go.
i'll toggle the model later today will post the results.
thanks!
thanks guys. i'll look into it.
now i know what the subdivide tool functions as. all this new terminology by way of v-ray!
i did acquire sketchuv recently - and really need to sort & figure out it's features.
all the best!
indeed! i guess this is a good opportunity to gain some experience in editing materials.
and thank you for the link - would be great to see this site grow!
so - worth mentioning that i am quite new to vray.
learning the curve on textures w/ displacement.
i'm trying to figure out why there is the inconsistency in the geometry of the grass as noted 'a' in the image below. i was hoping for a reasonable consistent/approximate height in the grass. it seems to really exaggerate.
also, concerning 'b' & 'c' - is this area a uv mapping issue? maybe using roadkill will fix it? i'm uncertain as to why these areas are darkened.
thanks.

sorry for the late response.
okay - attached is the monochrome. the 2nd image is the orig design. the 3rd is my result via vray.
my goal is to apply low light to the text - both groups (red & white). however, their illumination need only be subtle.
jon
so - as far as recreating the texture via vfsu. how does one go about doing that?
can you edit the .mat file directly?
i recently stumbled across http://www.vray-materials.de/ and discovered a slew of amazing materials.
i gave it a shot and downloaded a grass texture. however, v-ray via SKP did not recognize. i took notice of the extensions. v-ray for SKP ext. is (.vismat) whereas the material downloaded from the site had the ext. (.mat)
are these still usable? i would imagine so - i'm just missing an obvious queue, i think.
