I'll be sending out results to responders this week after MakerFaire! There were some really insightful comments, thanks!
Anyone going to MakerFaire? I'll be hanging at the getvisualizer.com tent next to the SketchUp wikihouse -- say hi!

Thanks Kristoff! I've been happy to see people adding answers, and will as promised send out the results some time next week when things have settled. I've already learned a lot.
Hi, I'm a recovering game-industry software developer & trying to figure out a few things about the SketchUp design market for extensions... like whether people use new computers or old, if people mostly just use whatever is free or spend for best-quality stuff, etc.
Also, I am learning how to use Google Docs forms, so I made a little survey page
I'll be happy to share the results with anyone who includes their email, and maybe here on Sketchucation, too. I think the answers would interest everyone, really.
(I know it might seem like this should be in the Developer forum, but developers are... a different breed of user! I'm more curious about the general SketchUp populace)
Thanks a lot for reading and hopefully clicking!
This happens on my one windows-8 machine. On my Mac all is fine.
I have un-installed and re-installed SketchUp, I can re-create this bug with no extensions present. I have the same bug in 2013 and 2014, make or pro.
When I start SketchUp, the first thing I must do is hit "Open" (ctrl-O) because 80% of the time the file dialog will start to appear and then SketchUp immediately crashes, no warning or BugSplat dialog.
20% of the time, it works! And I have no further file problems during that session.
If I forget to do this, and create something new, I run an 80% chance of accidentally losing my work when I select "Save" and the file dialog crashes SketchUp. If "Open" has worked once dring the same session, then "Save" also works.
SketchUp is the only one of my many applications that exhibits this behavior.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Hi, my name is Kevin & I used Sketchup back in the early Google days, had a long while of inactivity (usually my work in games and films has centered around Maya or in-house tools), and came back to it last year to find the environment much-changed for the better!
