RE: MAC/PC Compatability
Yes - but they are only minor differences which would be recognised on install surely. Steinberg sells more programs than sketchup, I'm sure they've considered this.

MAC/PC Compatability
I often find myself chatting with a client on skype and I am guiding them through Sketchup operation only to find that there are subtle differences in the layout and tool functions in the two sketchup versions. They are on MAC, I'm on a PC.
One of the leading audio recording programs is Cubase/Nuendo by Steinberg. They have always released a MAC and a PC version just like Sketchup.
I understand that their latest release is a single program that works on either PC or MAC. One download for both platforms.
Is this possible with sketchup??
I might add - last night I had a threeway Skype conference call with a client on MAC, his Builder on PC and myself on PC. That's when I realised how convenient it would be if we all had the same program.

maybe everything is music Susan, standing at the base of a cascading waterfall you hear music, standing on a busy street corner you also hear music, the choice of music is yours.

Coming to grips with antiquity
Today I was listening to a guy who has been studying Aboriginal art in caves in Sydney - these caves are within walking distance of the Harbour bridge and they have hand drawings that date before the pyramids!
We talk of antiquity being about Moses and Noah's flood etc but these dates are only 10,000 BC yet aboriginal culture goes back 40,000 years (and counting) in this country.
Surely they were not alone for their time, there must have been antiquity before Noah and all the myths surrounding him and his time.
Has our belief in Biblical history blinded us from what really may have happened?

RE: Things to be proud of!
Australia has made it's mark in a few areas.
- the Ute (1934), known in the US as a pickup.
- the IVF freeze-thaw method for storing embryos (1983.
- anti-counterfeiting technology for banknotes (1992).
- Penicillin (1944)'s antibiotic properties were discovered and developed by Australian Howard Florey.
- the plastic disposable syringe (1949).
- ultrasound (1976), pioneered in Australia
- black box flight recorders (1961)
- Racecam TV sport coverage (1979).
When I was at boarding school in New Zealand I spend a sunday playing around in the prototype of what became The Hamilton Jet Boat and later the Jet Ski.

RE: Need Aussie Translation...
The US doesn't. We play cricket, rugby, league with other countries worldwide but the US doesn't play or compete in any of these games.
No one else plays gridiron and whilst we play some baseball it's a minor sport.

perhaps we should have a game between the two?
no thanks - you don't know any real games

RE: Need Aussie Translation...
Your steroid monsters are no different to ours. Rugby and Rugby league players are big tough blokes.

RE: Need Aussie Translation...
In that case a 'footy' is a football, he said he could pass a football to the choppers they came that close.
We have 4 football codes.
- AFL Australian football league, referred to as AFL.
- NRL National Ruby League, referred to as League.
- Rugby Union, referred to as Union
- Soccer, referred to as football.
we differ from US football by the fact that we wear no helmets or padding.

RE: World cup Rugby...Springboks
the Kiwis seem to think the All Blacks will win - they have them at $1.50 - the next team is at $5.50

RE: Ipod or not, that is the question.....
It really depends on what system you are on. Mac users will prefer the Ipod - windows users the Creative Zen vision M 30gb.
The Zen outperforms the I-pod in various ways - more video and audio formats such as mpeg, divx, wmv, xvid for video, and mp3, wma and .wav audio formats. The Zen can play and record FM radio with 30 presets and record and play voice. It also has removable disk storage like SD cards. It has a 2.5-inch screen with more color display ability than the iPod.
They are both the same price.
BTw if you are feeling wealthy this is the go but it's $886.

RE: Media Players......? John Sayer, you'd be a good start!!!!
Believe it or not I use Windows media player
Why - firstly because I love the visual Bars and Waves - Ocean mist, because it's one of the most accurate real time analysers around. ( I realise it wouldn't mean anything to anyone else) Also because I have all my libraries direct at hand, no need to load play lists. The only codec it won't play is realplayer .ram and apple .mov files. I have Realplayer Alternative installed and I try to avoid .mov files.
What really annoys me is Quicktime - whenever I hit a page with quicktime it rewrites all my file preferences without my permission making it the no 1 player!! - it also pops up regularly asking me if I want to download I-Tunes. It's a pain in the A!!

RE: The prefab apartment block.
another method is to make the thread a stickey so it stays on the front page and doesn't get shuffled down. The number of stickeys will build up and then you can decide what to do with them.

RE: The prefab apartment block.
I have seen a similar idea in Japan where they put up a house in a weekend.
Similar idea of prefab, prewired/plumbed construction. You went to the retailer and entered your preferences into a computer that built the modular layout on screen. As you constructed it the program read out the cost and the monthly payments in the top right hand corner. Change the stove model for example or add a bedroom and the price changed accordingly.. When you had the layout and features you wanted you hit 'save', the factory then built it amd delivered it to the prepared site.

RE: The prefab apartment block.
here's a pic of how it works. You can see the pylons lying on the ground - they have a welded screw thread at the base that scews the unit into the ground driven in by the hydraulic driven screw attachment on the crane.
-
RE: The prefab apartment block.
I've seen those screw in supports Ross, a local building used that technique. A hyraulic driven crane attachment holds the screw and basically drills it into the ground. They were 3.6m long and went down to the rockbed as the building was on soft riverplain, the slab was then tied into them.

The prefab apartment block.
I saw this the other day and I thought I'd share it.
I recommend right click "save target" and downloading it first as it's 21meg as I wanted to keep some semblance of quality.
If you are on Mac you may need this plugin for .wmv files
